There is a new update to Archies Campings available on line today. For those who've never heard of it, Archies Campings is a website where you can download POIs and other information about more than 33,000 campsites throughout Europe, including sites in the UK. There is also an App available - details on the website.

In this update more sites have been added, particularly in Poland, Italy and Sweden, so if your plans for 2018 include these countries make sure you have a look at Archies and get the most up to date information before you go. Press the button: 'CHANGES IN 2018' to see the results of the poll which has been taking place during 2017, and to see if the results might affect you.

If you use the downloadable files of Campsites near the main routes, these will only be available for a short time longer, so make sure you download them and keep them handy for reference before they disappear from the server.

Information continues to be updated, thanks to feedback from Archies users, so if you notice anything incorrect about any of the information please use the Contact button to let Archie have the correct details. Similarly, if you have any questions or suggestions please use the Contact button.

Please can everyone share this on any other forums they use, where it might prove useful.

"If you use the downloadable files of Campsites near the main routes, these will only be available for a short time longer, so make sure you download them and keep them handy for reference before they disappear from the server."

val, I'm not sure where the source of this data is, but I have the ACSI app and this year they offered a 'new' set of (payable) data, 'motor home stopovers'....so I subscribed, expecting to see an ACSI-enhanced set of Aires etc, alongside their usual site listings...

however, it turns out to be what you describe, 'campsites near main routes' which are already included in the full listings but can be seen separately in a less cluttered way and are available to all, MH and caravans, as they are proper campsites.

i had a 'conversation' (or two) with ACSI....firstly as I couldn't get this file on screen (wasn't available till 1st Jan) and then about the (paid for) content.....which I actually already had....

they were totally hopeless, despite selling something not as described. I asked for my money back (only €3 I think, but that's not the point....) and they refused as I already had (two copies of.....) the data.....

so....for those who don't have the app, the file you mention might be quite useful, but don't pay ACSI for something grandly named which isn't what it seems to be....

All Archies  data comes from his own information and that supplied in the past by his Belgian friend Leo Huybrechts (sadly no longer with us)- and he spends a great deal of time in keeping it up to date himself - and with the help of volunteers.

The 'main routes' data has been kept as separate files, which are available to the 'luddites' who still like to download some paper sheets - but unfortunately it then has to be kept separate from the main data files, and needs to be separately updated which is a considerable task.  Archie no longer has time to maintain these separate files hence them disappearing from Archie's Campings in the near future.

Of course all the information is contained within the main data files.

I don't imagine Archie will be able to include Aires, etc., unless he gets a whole lot of new volunteers to provide and update the information!!

Hi Valda, at the risk of sounding a bit dim I notice Archies, and ACSI sites ask for your system ie Garmin tom tom, or what ever but I just have my built in sat-nav "Land rover" when I say ACSI I mean the coordanates they give when you click on address and route usualy supplied by google and not the five numbered postcode with the site address which is okay if you just want the local mayor any idea what my system is?..

I just help Archie out a little - but don't know any of the technical issues. so I've no idea, Hakinbush"  We can't load Archies on to our Mondeo built-in. Perhaps someone else who owns a Landrover might be able to help.

I have a Land Rover and the sat nav has a USB point to feed data in. In this case it takes data in the gpx format which is one of those supplied by Archie. (it is also one of the formats used by Google Earth). The LR handbook details the procedure to get the data into the system and it works fine. Once loaded-in the file remains in the system, the usb stick doesn't need to be kept plugged in, When you enter a town into the sat nav then if there is an ACSI site nearby then the icon appears on the screen showing its location. Touch the icon on the screen and you are routed there automatically. It works fine, I've used it throughout France and Spain for the past few years, no problem.
