Rowntree Park, building work noise.
We are booked in at Rowntree Park, York. Reviews tell me there is disruptive building work noise from a site next door where a hotel is being built. How bad is it, has the club mentioned this at all? It may affect our booking. I would be pleased to hear opinions from anyone who has stayed recently. Although it's a city site our last visit was reasonably peaceful back on site.

Thanks WTG, the problem is we won't all get a pitch away from any potential noise and after a long journey on Sunday it could be we won't get much peace on Monday morning or whenever. We won't be staggering round York all day long. we like a break in the van too.

If you check your booking confirmation email it tells you all about the hotel (it was on ours in December) and I think when you go through a booking it tells you there as well.
We were there in early December and found no noise but like lots of others we were out most of the day after 11 but no early morning noise.

Thanks both. I would have liked a warning before I booked. I see it is now on my booking details but didn't spot it previously. I am wondering what is noisier, foundation work or cranes and girders? It will certainly get noisier as work progresses.

I am booked on from this Sunday for 4 nights so will no doubt experience the work during that time. We have plans worked out for the time we are there which will see us offsite for most of the daylight hours so not to bothered.
The warning was on my confirmation email. However it would have been more beneficial to have it on the site web page or booking form to allow people to form their opinion before taking the booking further.

Hi brue, I've forwarded the discussion to the Regional Manager for further feedback.

No idea about noise but I was concerned to see on the news the other day the River Ouse in York looking a bit on the high side! Perhaps Harry could update on that as well?

The Regional Manager for the area has called me with further information about this. There is currently building work adjacent to the site for a hotel. However, please note that all building work has to take place between the permitted working hours so it should not affect your stay in the early hours or late evenings.
I’ve also forwarded the discussion to the content team so we can add information to the site page. I apologise for the confusion and hopefully this will be clearer now for anyone looking to book in the future.

It would be good to see the details on the site page. I could have made an informed choice as other available sites are limited at this time of the year.
It looks as though there are others like me who didn't spot the information on the booking confirmation and the reviews are now showing the results.
Thank you Rowena for responding promptly.

We walked past the site in mid December and it was quite muddy on the road along by the riverside to the building site.
Brue, you could always change your vehicle size to greater than 6 m and so not be limited to a small pitch!!

We were at RP in December & there was building work next door. It was only carried out during office hours & there was no noise outside of these hours or at the weekend. When we booked there was a warning about the noise on the club website. The noise was minimal & for us not a problem.

Thanks Harry, I have done, the recent reviews over a couple of pages prompted my OP, obviously the building noise is increasing. I'm going to keep a close eye on any more reviews and will make a decision next week.
The club have at last put the information on the web site, no mention of allocating pitches to certain van sizes though and I certainly wouldn't want to be right up against the building site with no choice. This could happen to us due to our van being just under 6m.
I honestly don't think I'd have booked if I'd known beforehand but was looking forward to going. It might mean I also have to cancel another club site booked as a follow on.
We are time poor and can't take breaks easily.

As you have visited the site before you have got to agree its not a sight to take in the scenery.
Its a great location for the city and surrounding areabut not a site to sit and stare.
We are up and about for 9 am and don't return until after lunch then off again later until 10 pm. Any noise from building works should not be a problem unless your sitting on site all day.
The park next door can be very noisy but get out and about and you won't notice a single thing. It really shouldn't spoil your stay just get into the city and enjoy. We will be there, as usual, in September.

We tend to use city sites for a wander round and then have a rest in the van etc. It looks as though the hotel is due for completion this year. .I suspect it will change the character of the residential area around the site with more noise and traffic generally. However that's just an observation. My issue was no one being told prior to booking. Hopefully our short break will go ahead.

Noise is of course very subjective.
We like Berwick site right next to the east coast main line. Many reviewers complain about the train noise. We have stopped at Gatwick and not been bothered.
Others would have a different opinion, as is only natural.
Our hearing is good by the way, it's just we find we can ignore it.

I'm pleased to hear you can ignore it Steve, in the reviews one comment said "it is very loud."
Rowena responded to my original comments, I'm pleased the information is now on the site details and we can all make a more informed decision.

Just another understandable aspect of the hustle and bustle of modern city centre life I guess. Construction/development projects in towns like this are taking place across the land and are to be expected. As the hours of working are strictly governed by the city planning departments these ought not to be intrusive at those most inappropriate times.
