I should get about 250 points when I pay the remaining deposit on the new Smart Electric and I'll still get points for buying diesel for the Shogun.

The new Smart Electric will resolve that though and will be a recipe for a better future!

I was meaning the loan of the car not the work done. I am unable to believe that dealers in England don't lend you a car so you don't have to hang around the garage whilst the work is being done. What if it took a day, do you have to find alternative transport.

What if it costs you more than you though as your current Smart car.

I've just sorted out our itinerary for the rest of this season and completed the necessary bookings with the CMC.

We leave Redhill on 25th January when we will have completed our 21 night stay here. Gatwick was fully booked for one night over the following weekend, so we decided on 3 nights at Brighton CMC site followed by 21 nights at Gatwick. Then 7 nights at Alderstead Heath, Redhill which will take us to 25th February. From that date we are now booked to stay at Gatwick until our seasonal pitch in Worthing commences on 16th March.

All sorted and booking confirmations received! A total of £812.60 yet to pay, so plenty more Clubcard points to come!

How can it cost more when there is a saving of £2500 a year on fuel? It's like CY said about Mr. Macawber, income 20 shillings, expenditure 20 shillings and sixpence, result poverty, penury and misery but income 20 shillings, expenditure 19 shillings and sixpence, result increasing wealth and happiness. The Smart Electric should put me into the latter position!

Everything will be all right in the end and if it's not all right, it's not yet the end!

Have you  compared the total cost of owning and running this new car for say 5 years from when you get it with the cost over the same 5 years if you had stuck with what you have now?

And how do you account for the apparently very poor MPG on the present car when you are doing long commutes as well as deliveries?

We use ours mainly for shopping and short trips, with maybe one longer trip per month, and are getting 40MPG.

I would be very worried if our MPG was that low.

Without trawling back through the pages, didn't you say exactly the same thing when you bought your current car, as the shogun was expensive to run. As long as you believe your own hype that's ok.

When in Tesco next I suggest you buy a new calculator because your sums don't add up, you get a different answers on different threads/post.

No, the salesman told him it would be cheaper to run and won't cost him anything. What do we know.

You must really like driving Malcolm. Although Brighton is perhaps £5 or so a night more expensive. You must be easily spending that sum on commuting. I did not think you were getting your EV for 6 months.

50 miles each way on the commute from Redhill plus about 50 miles at work. That's 150 miles a day!

I guess it's the feeling of going somewhere! It's a kind of buzz!

January and February tend to be quieter months. People are short of money because of Xmas spending so I might be down to working just 3 days a week which will reduce the commuting cost. This week I have four days off: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday as days off.

A very expensive buzz. Why not get a job with Tesco delivery then at least they would be paying you to have the buzz, not your overdraft.

According to your figures that is £30 a day. Seems a long commute.

While on the fuel theme, cheapest fuel in Kent is

    Unleaded...£115.9 a litre

    Diesel......£118.7 a litre

What's yours in your area  ?????

I used to do Tesco delivery when I lived in Gloucestershire about 16 years ago. I didn't like it because their vans were very cumbersome to drive and difficult to park and they didn't have satnav in those days so I had difficulty finding addresses. The hours of work and pay was also too low at that time. Driving a small compact Smart that is automatic with power steeering, a car of my own choice, is a whole lot easier and better!

I prefer to drive my own car, not someone elses and this job suits me because it lets me do just that!

When I refuelled the Shogun yesterday, Huskydog, it was 120.9 per litre at Tesco Shoreham Extra. Total cost £82.37 because I still had a quarter tank left when I started refuelling.

Off to Meadowhell at Sheffield shortly to look at sound bars. Been promising myself one for years. So this January sales. Hopefully not too busy, as kids now back at school.

Fuel here seems more expensive. The cheapest Diesel is £1.19.7. However, only rarely. That is more normally the price for petrol, with Diesel 1/2p dearer.

Fortunately mpgs seem to be better here than in the Worthing area. Even my 2 litre XTrail returns mid 30's on short low speed runs. As Sheffield is a long high speed run, I should get high 40's.😀
