Oh dear brue it really is a bad virus, you are not alone in having to go to bed, sister and her OH are still feeling wiped out. I think in total it took us 4 weeks to fully get over it. Thankfully Mum is feeling much better and is eating once again. The care home had 17 residents down with it sadly they lost 3 residents over the Christmas week.

    Oneputt, do take care.

We've just got back from another visit to SS Great Britain to see more of the museum which we didn't have time to see yesterday. So an interesting afternoon there followed by a visit to the M Shed. There were quite a lot of exhibits on the first floor all about Bristol and the people who live here. We didn't do the 2nd floor exhibition though as it was getting late and a long walk back to our outfit.

We seem to have avoided the bugs so far.  We were invited to the in-laws for tomorrow evening, but most of them have been struck down in the last fortnight, so we have decided not to venture out until they are fully recovered!

We will have a quiet night in with the TV for company......as usual.

Sorry to hear that you are both still suffering Brue.

Last year I was really bad with a chest infection when we went away mid December. Luckily I tried to get an appointment late in tje day at the local docs the day before departure. They were booked up bit the practice nurse prescribed antibiotics for a chest infection and a ventolin inhaler which really helped. Hope you pair recover soon.

Thanks, WN. We had rain through the night and showers today so most of the snow's gone but now the fields are rather wet. Tomorrow is hopefully sunny so we might get out for decent walk, but we've to do some shopping first or we'll run out of bread etc.

Happy New Year to both of you, and to all others on CT too.

There was a middle aged couple sitting next to us without any children with them. Maybe they had a family member or friend in the cast?

We had our local family here today for belated Christmas/New Year celebrations as they will all be doing their own thing tomorrow evening. We will meet up again for a New Year's day walk weather permitting. There were 12 of us today, plus son and DIL's dog Jessie. So lovely to get most of the family together.

You sound as though you are going to have a lovely family New Year Tammygirl. I do hope you and your OH feel better soon brue. Your horrid bug seems to be taking a long time to clear. Luckily Mr H managed to get an emergency appt with GP practice nurse the afternoon before we left for Christmas in NI who prescribed antibiotics for his chest infection which stopped it in it's tracks.  It still wiped him out for a few days though.

It was warm here too last night, we used the aircon to help us sleep. With so much rain it's not just the heat but the humidity.

I just checked and it looks like Apia in Samoa will be the first to see the New Year in. It will be 2018 in another 36 minutes there, near the international dateline and 14 hours ahead of us!

I watched the firework display on Sky News in Auckland, New Zealand. So if any of you are there, Happy New Year 2018! It's strange to think that it's now 2018 there but still 2017 here.

Whilst you were posting, Goldie, I turned on to Sky News to see the display over Sydney Harbour. It was amazing, spectacular and went on twice as long as the display in New Zealand with 1.6 million people attending. The whole of the harbour was lit up and lights over the bridge as well as the fireworks! I think it will be Japan and Hong Kong next but it's going to take some doing to measure up to what we've just seen in Sydney! There's Dubai yet to come too!

The warden is also doing a celebration between 3 and 5 p.m. here. So we'll be going to that too. At 3 p.m. here it will be midnight in Tokyo and by 4 p.m. it will be midnight in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. So plenty more to come throughout today!

I think most likely many of us had better things to do.

This morning I have been making a custom built unit for son in law to keep his games consoles in.  Seems DD thinks I can make pretty much anything!

It is not a quick process, just as well she is not paying for my time!

OH is about to go out to check on the Guide Hall after the cold spell, and pick up more soft drinks on her way back as DD is of  course avoiding alcohol at present.  I will be continuing with the project and will hopefully have it ready before they come up here tomorrow.

Must remember to take the turkey crown out to defrost.......how long should we allow??   Cannot see any guidance on the wrapper, it weighs 2kg.  We usually have a fresh one so not had to do defrosting of one before.

Trifle for tomorrow also under construction.

I wonder what is the cost of all these firework displays?  And could the money be better spent?

Various charities are always asking for money, why not have more modest displays and spend the rest of the money on something useful?

The answer to that is simple. The more spectacular and attractive the display, the more tourists it attracts. That means more money for their economy. As tourists, once there, will spend their money there too!

Actually I don’t really care what was on Sky News. Or (re later posts) what time zones other cities are in. I either know, or can find out if I want to.

I think it was on the BBC news channel too, Goldie,  but I think the coverage was more extensive on Sky News.
