We visited the Royal Yacht a few years ago just before Christmas Francis. We loved it - so interesting and such a lot to see. I hope to go again sometime. Well worth a visit.

We took 2 of the grandchildren to the pantomime this afternoon - Oh yes we did! It was such good fun. 7 year old grand-daughter especially loved every minute and shouted and booed and sang along. 10 year old grandson liked to think he was a bit too 'cool' for a pantomime.
but I caught him joining in.

Glad that we moved yesterday, in fine, but cold weather, from College Farm CL to Priestfield Grange as it snowed overnight and for most of this morning. There must have been well over 1" of snow on the ground when we went out for our walks round the fields and down to Linacre Lakes today. We did get caught in a rain shower this afternoon but it wasn't enough to shift all the snow. Just hope that it doesn't freeze to night or the ground's going to be treacherous for walking and driving.

We had turkey soup too, for lunch today and it was delicious. I think my wife made it the same way as you did, Goldie! She also used the giblets. She never wastes anything!

We visited SS Great Britain this afternoon. After we bought the tickets we were told that they were valid for a year and we can visit as often as we want within that time. So we plan to visit it again this morning because we didn't have time to take it all in yesterday afternoon.

Thanks RJLJ. We've still got a few days left so maybe we can fit it in.

Yes I think they're running, JVB66. We kept seeing boats labelled ferry going up and down the harbour.

The caravan has been rocking with the high winds during the night. Just got up to make a pot of tea.

M shed is very good Malcolm. Although some of the displays have more relevance for a Bristolian. My mum really loved to go there, it brought back lots of memories.
The Great Britain is also well worth a visit, and good value for money. You always used to be to reuse your ticket for a year, so might be worth a return visit if BW is still open.
One significant thing that is missing from your list is Brunels other great achievement, the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Well worth a walk across. I don't know how far you like walking, but you could get a water taxi to the centre, walk the length, then up Christmas Steeps, on up to the University. Stick your head in the main doorway to the tower, very impressive. Museum, next door also first class, with very good Geology section. Carry on up to Cabot Tower, great views from top, but long climb. Coffee from Waitrose, then meander through Clifton to the Bridge. Previously we would have walked back via Ashton Court. However, these days probably a bus back to Broadmead. If you don't fancy the walk, it should be easy enough to find somewhere to park on the Downs roads, to make the bridge walk a lot shorter.
Still seems very cold here and raining, although supposed to warm up with lots of sun later. Perhaps a walk round Clumber lake. Although given the amount of rain we have had it will probably be muddy, even there. Our soil is very sandy and it takes a lot to get it squelchy, but we are getting there.😂
Edit missed your post about your Great Britain visit.

Apart from the crew's quarters. They did look a bit cramped, unless you were of a high rank of course.

We usually pull that in on a walk in the summer, when we go further, as otherwise we have to pay for parking. We are NT members and have an annual pass for the Forestry Commision park. However, despite the extortionate council tax levels the Council don't give the locals a pass.☹️ You are correct though the paths are good and the ducks ravenous.
Strange, but I don't mind so much paying for parking when we are away, but avoid it were possible locally.

£3 is not bad for parking though. We have been three times over the last 5 years. Only actually paid on one occasion as on the other occasions there has been a pay desk and nobody taking money.

No as you say it is very reasonable. It is often no charge mid week in winter but usually there is a charge at weekends. As far as I am aware Rufford is all Notts CC. Sherwood Forest visitors centre and SSSI will move from their control to a consortium headed by the RSPB, when the new visitors centre opens next year. It will be interesting to see what happens to parking charges, currently also £3.

After a wild, windy and very wet night, we've woken up to a wild and windy but thankfully dry morning. Just back from a walk along Perranporth beach with the dogs - seemed like it was only dog walkers who'd ventured out this early!
We have friends round for pre New Year's Eve festivities tonight - can't join them tomorrow night because of probable fireworks from early evening onwards - Harry ignores them but they drive Lady frantic, so it'll have to be the TV turned up loud to distract her!
Hope everyone has a good time and very best wishes for 2018 to you all.

Another grey day here, warmer than yesterday so the snow is slowly melting.
Got most of the shopping yesterday, but OH says we need more fresh veg for the meal on the 1st, maybe milk too, so we will need to go out again tomorrow.
Expecting a parcel delivery today so need to wait in for that.

Well after a quiet Christmas it seems our New Year will be anything but. Eldest son and his family came up Wednesday night to stay as usual with his wifes parents. The only problem is her brother who came up for Christmas with his family decided to stay on for New Year, the 2 of them don't get on, so big argument between her and her Mum resulted in everyone in tears. Phone call from our son, can we come and stay with you, as if they need to ask. We now have the pleasure of the 4 of them taking over the house
quiet forgot what its like in a morning with everyone wanting showers and different things for breakfast.
Miserable day weather wise but 3 of them have gone off into town 4th one is here eldest (granddaughter) busy practicing her make up and nail art
Might be a while before I post again

Ours usually lasts a week or more, but as we still had veg in the fridge we did not buy any when out yesterday. However, the brocolli had to be used up as it would not have kept till Monday,so fresh supplies are needed as it is DD's favourite, and the only thing that we all like.
Son in law has a very limited, and boring, range of veg he likes!
We did buy milk, would be plenty for us, but we are making bread sauce, and custard for the trifle, so not good to run out.
Lidl is a 5 minute walk, so handy for occasions like this.

Take care Oneputt, keep warm. I am now posting this from my bed, two weeks of illness have finally got me......OH is still reclining on a sofa. We can't remember the last time we both felt so poorly. I know Easy T had something similar not long ago, it's not much fun. My Mum seems a bit better which is a relief.

All these chesty infections, coughs and colds etc, a good reason to ban Xmas
too many people travelling and visiting, passing on germs etc. Should lock the door, put a 'Do not Disturb' sign on it and spend the week eating and drinking alone, much healthier

I think children should make a few bob by renting themselves out to kidless couples so they can take them to the Panto. Going to one without kids is a bit strange if you ask me, unless you are prepared to join in the booing and hissing. (Still a bit strange)
