What are you all up to

If your rubbing his hands with glee "salesman friend" everytime he sees you(his cash cow) come near the showroom, could not advise at the time of "sale" that there is a long lead time for the less popular models,it just shows how easely you are sucked in

Remember Malc, in another 3-6 months you will have paid off more of your current PCP so that £3000+ you have to pay should shrink.
Yes, get a binding deal on the trade in price, and ensure they will be taking the payments you are making into account, or say to them you will walk away.

That's a good point, Kj. I hadn't thought of that. I've just phoned and spoken to the salesman and he said we could call in to see him this afternoon. He said he would re-work the figures at the time when the delivery of the car happens.

You need to check that this will not be to THEIR advantage.
I must say, anytime we have ordered a new car, which usually means waiting a bit, the deal with the trade in has been fixed at the point of order. I would expect them to have taken any ordering time into account. Not your fault that they have sold you a car they do not have!

So as things stand....
1. You don't know when the new car will be available.
2. You don't know what it will cost.
3. You don't know what your current car will be worth.
I'd tell the salesman to contact you a couple of days before he has the car and in the meantime you'll look elsewhere for one.
BTW - Since you full time in the 'van are you confident that all sites will be happy for you to cut your costs by using their electricity to charge your car every day ?

Well if the official towcar is there on pitch (Shogun), I assume he will hide the Smart thingy in the awning whilst its being charged. just have to push the table to one side and fold the recliner.

Done it! We got our appointment at the car showroom this afternoon with the salesman. The new car is now on order from the factory, estimated delivery date 1st July 2018. I paid £1000 deposit through Tesco Credit clubcard. The balance of £2817.38 to be paid on delivery. They have accepted the deal at todays value because although there will be additional depreciation in six months on my existing Smart car, the cost of this will be offset by the additional amount paid on the existing finance.
He said in the meantime, I will need to take care of my current car because if there any scratches or other damage, the value woukd be re-appraised accordingly. As long as the car is in the same condition when the changeover takes place, the deal will remain the same.

Well done. Only you know if you have reached a good package or not vis-à-vis the trade-in offer, the cost of the new car and the amount you'll pay on the existing finance but at least you know where you stand.
And of course the list price of the leccy Smart may go up between now and 1st July (Brexit, weak Sterling an' all that) but I very much doubt the list price will come down.
Chill!

Wow phoned Hotpoint about 0835 about my oven problem, shocked by the alternatives offered 😲. Had to think about the 3 ways to pay. So much information reeled out by someone who says it often 😮. Needed to sort something out here urgently so asked if I could call back, told they'd ring me back 1015.
These days there isn't a call out fee, hourly rate and cost of part. Could pay £Xand 90 day guarantee, or for platinum cover 12 monthly payments didn't catch that figure amounted to some sort of insurance for 12 months or cheapest cost £20 per month for 6 months starting January - I pick the date I pay ☺. That covers call out, part and fitting PLUS 6 month guarantee and cover if any part goes or if its unrepairable new appliance free of charge except for delivery and fitting costs. If not repairable when they come Wednesday no money taken, no call out fee no cost 😲. Seems to good to be true.
Now waiting for text with expected arrival time of engineer within a 3 hour window sometime between 0715 and 1800. If I hadn't been called away and made my mind up on payment method in that call the engineer could have come today! As it was she booked me a slot for Wednesday.
Watch this space.
With such a myriad of payment methods is it any wonder folks can be sucked into deals? What happened to the days when you got a quote and knew the cost etc before committing?
I'm sure I have got my facts straight but paperwork won't arrive for 7 to 10 days. It seems too good to be true 😉. Since I don't expect it to arrive until we've left it'sa real leap of faith 😂

I doubt it, he has only seen a picture of it.
When we bought our Smart 4 years back, it's a petrol automatic, we had several test drives, in an automatic, long ones, including motorway driving, before they expected us to make a decision.
They pointed out how it was very different from our automatic Volvo XC90 in operation and driving style.
The sales people, even though used to selling £40k plus Mercs, spent a lot of time on us buying a £10k Smart.
They made sure we had all the info on finance and worked out what would be the best deal for us. That is the sort of service WE expect!

We suspect thermostat but fan has made a racket whilst warming up - well it did 😉 and OH could find access to it. It's a built in double oven.
I rang Hotpoint to get an idea of cost of part etc before trying to locate one and setting about possible DIY or local person. Because of closeness of Christmas, us going away and it might not be thermostat, although I doubt that. We opted for £120 payable monthly starting January and an expert to do the job. I think we're saving money 😉😉😉 as guaranteed work and 6 months cover plus other repairs if necessary in 6 months or a replacement appliance free of charge for anything other than cosmetic or malicious damage.
