The MH is all washed off and back in its proper place on the driveway. It's amazing how much the rear nearside wheel which was on the lawn for just over a week had sunk into the ground. Good job the driving wheels were still on the driveway.

It's amazing how quickly they get filthy. We have to pass a quarry on the way to our storage and at this time of year the roads are covered with sand and mud . Couldn't believe how filthy ours was today but washing will have to wait.

That sounds wonderful brue.  We used to visit Parracombe Church when we holidayed in Devon and they have the space for the musicians there with a gap for the cello (like Under the Greenwood Tree). The Salvation Army band were playing in our shopping centre this morning so we stopped to listen for a while. It always brings a lump to my throat for some reason. Lovely sound.

Occasionally a customer will tip a fiver, that's the best tip I've ever had. Some customers tip £3, others £2 and others £1. Many don't tip at all.

I'll be 89 in 2040. If I'm still alive, I'll need to continue working. Even 90 year olds need food and clothing to survive. The bills don't stop just because you're older! So I hope I can continue to do deliveries.

Sad to say we rarely tip a delivery man (sorry Malcolm frown). The main reason is that we very rarely have cash, and when we order a take-away we usually pay on-line before the food is delivered.  I use the Dominos Pizza app on the phone and occasionally Just-Eat.  ......not that we have takeaways very often, to be honest.

Having a quiet day today - my only free day this month.  Gathering myself together before the services and concerts which re-start tomorrow in earnest, and last up until and including Christmas Eve.

Spent most of the day sitting and writing Christmas Cards.  Just popped out to post them and a quick visit to Aldi.  Sitting in Aldi Car Park while Carol goes in to battle... smile

It's mostly cash on delivery customers that tip. If they use a bank note to pay and the change is a small amount, they just say keep the change. For example, the bill may be £14.49. They give a £10 note and £5 note, total £15 and say keep the change. In that situation my tip works out to 51 pence.

Some card customers do keep some change, so I do get some tips from card customers too.

Sometimes but very rarely, I get short changed when a customer insists on paying the entire bill in small change and puts a large handful of coins in my hand. If I kept them at door whilst I counted every single coin, I would be spending a long time doing that and their food would go cold. So I just trust them that the money is correct and that they checked beforehand. However, on one occasion it was short by 59 pence and I had to make it up to the shop with my own money.

Enjoy your concert Millie, still have Jethro Tulls album ‘Aqualung’.

Lovely walk along the beach, few hardy souls around.  Temperature now dropped to 0C so looks like another cold evening.

I can never quite understand this tipping business. Some businesses seem to regard it as mandatory - taxis, hairdressers for example. Why do you not tip every shop assistant/bank cashier? Diskriminashun, that's wot it iz.

It never occurred to me that Fast Food deliveries got tips. We're out of range of any so it's never cropped up. But why would I tip? I would have paid for the food plus delivery - and I would assume the driver was being paid to do his job - i.e. drive. He hasn't cooked the food, or served it and looked after us as a waiter may do in a restaurant.

    Are tips taxable?

Another busy busy day. Lovely start though nice and sunny but freezing cold once again.

Eldest son rang just as we were getting up, he'd arrived 23.30 at his in-laws house across the town from us. They had been to the school concert and collected granddaughter, that's her broke up now for Christmas, after they collected her they went to the Panto in town and she stayed over at their house, so her dad stayed there too for the night.

We arranged to go out for brunch as he wanted to be back on the road down to Tidworth by 13.00. Quick catch up with whats happening, something to eat, swap over of Christmas presents and he was on his way back down.frown They will all be back up again before the New Year for a few days but will have to leave daughter up here for one of us to take back to school as she doesn't start back until 10th January and they have to be back at work/school  the week before.

Once we got back home it was back on with the decorating, almost finished now smile

Tomorrow off to visit Mum and decorate her room for Christmas, I've got her a small tree, which I've already decorated and a few small unbreakable Christmas ornaments + some window stickers. Mum always loved to have the house done nice for Christmas so I thought it might be nice to do her room with her.

Haven't done any of our decorations yet because of the decorating going on in the lounge but they should be up by the middle of the week, time enough for the day.

We don't order take away's to far out of town, so that solves the tipping issue. I will tip the hairdresser if its a good job, trained to be one so know how bad the wages can be.

Haven't washed the MH although it could do with it, its filthy but the weather is just too cold to even think about using water outside.

Those going to concerts hope you have a good time. Wish we had some concerts to go frown to they just don't seem to bother with them up here. Maybe in the big cities but not around here, I think it puts you in a Chrismassy mood. Maybe next year we could go away in the van before Christmas and take in a few undecided

    Have a good weekend folks.

We tip the postman and the milkman, they are both very reliable through all weathers and distances round here. I tip the hairdresser although she also has a box for Help the Heroes and is a non stop charity fund raiser for other things, so some customers donate.

Long drive back home from Norfolk. An enjoyable week. House quite cold. Lots of water lying around coming through Cheshire.

Now have to knuckle down for Christmas and wrap my own presents! Draw the line at writing the gift tab out though as I might guess who it's from.

After a frosty start it's been a fine sunny day here at York. After doing the "weekly wash" we headed out to the N/T's Beningbrough House. Had a good 1.5hr walk around the estate & along side of the Ouse before lunch in the car. Then a visit into the house to view the collection of paintings from the National Portrait Gallery and a wander round the gardens on the "Owl Trail". Site is about 4/5ths full, 50/50 caravans & M/Hs.

There is no law that says you should. The organisation that I worked for (retailing) insisted that tips had to be handed in to the welfare fund with the exception of the restaurant where it was an accepted custom. I think there are some categories of employment where tipping makes up a proportion of peoples pay like catering and taxi drivers. If you tip it should be based on satisfaction with the service you receive. If someone serving you in a restaurant shows no interest and just plonks the food on the table obviously does not deserve a tip but someone who gives the impression of caring about serving you which increases the pleasure of using that restaurant may well deserve to be tipped. I am not sure that someone who delivers food to your door with which you have a few minutes contact would be top of my list for tipping but each to his own. My youngest son used to do a morning paper round and at Christmas he was staggered by the amount of tips he got. Knowing him as I do I can well understand why people were generous towards him.
