Woke up to a beautiful morning, everywhere white and crisp, no foot prints as were the only ones on the CL smile

Short drive up to Durham in lovely sunshine, roads all fine with just a dusting of snow on the fields. Arrived at 12.30 site very quiet around 20 vans mostly MH's.

Walked to park and ride (not for the faint hearted)to get bus into Durham. Had a nice walk around not too cold as it was about 2c but no wind, sadly didn't spend much at allfrown think OH was pleased about that since I have just given both boys a good amount of money at the weekend.

Decided not to bother reinvesting a bond that had matured, interest rates are still rubbish so decided the boys could put it to some use now rather than later.smile

Off up the road home in the morning frown

I was talking to one of our neighbours today who is govenor at one of the "closed" schools and the reason is the modern litigation society, and insurance companies who insist on a minimum staff cover, for the same reason, yell

So the kids are missing out on the big ice slides of our days in playgroundscool

A sad sign of the times, CY. We are a risk-averse, compensation crazy culture. Poor little Johnny slips and breaks his ankle on the school playground. Can you imagine the outcry? undecided

Sadly CY sign of the times I'm  afraid, children and staff  travel much further than we used to. If there isn't sufficient  staff on to supervise the pupils then they would be sent home anyway.

I remember when living in Germany taking the boys to school on foot through white outs, no one stayed at home unless the police told you to stay off the roads. Only happened once in the 20 years we lived there, winters could be fierce there.

As the weather improved this afternoon we walked up to the Bottolph Arms, very cheap beer at only £2 a pint. ☺Chatted to a few locals over a few drinks before walking back to the site.

Off home tomorrow 😢 after a lovely few days even enjoyed the snow 😉

    Safe trip Tammygirl.

I can't ever remember having a day off school due to it being closed because of snow, but our boys school's seemed to close as soon as it started to snow.Times change.😯

This morning, OH was out with the Environment Agency restocking a local river with young fish. The fish were transported down from the East Midlands, grown from wild stock. (The driver reported the roads were clear.) This keeps the river levels up, fish get depleted due to predators, otters, cormorants etc and pollution. So a good job done in very chilly weather.

We put up some new outside Christmas lights this afternoon, icicles dangling nicely, looks quite good. smilesmile

We've had the Christmas lights on the caravan this weekend,  although apart from the wardens we haven't seen any others, 😢 We can transfer them to house this week.  Mind you our icicle lights are still up from last year 😯

It's gone very cold outside now, but nice and warm in the caravan.

How sad moulesy. I do feel for them as we shan't have another dog now but we really like having our son and DIL's dog in the family. I am sure Harry and Lady will have a wonderful time being spoiled rotten 😊Have a lovely time.

Glad you enjoyed The Botolph Arms Helen and Trevor. It's a great pub. Our daughter worked there in the holidays when she was a student. When we were first married we lived in that area and it was a farm! Have a safe journey home tomorrow. Hopefully see you both again before too long.

Glad you got home safely OP. Hope you have a safe journey home tammygirl.

I had a bit of a tidy in the house this morning after putting up the Christmas decs at the weekend and then went over to the Post Office collection office to collect a parcel that the postman couldn't deliver on Saturday (because he didn't ring the door bell😠). That was an experience! Long queue which someone tried to jump. He was soon sent to the back of the queue 😂

Fine so far. Lovely sunny day to day. Went up onto Ilkley Moor for a walk as far as the Twelve Apostles. Cold again tonight.

We move on to York on Thursday for a week.

It is not using the hob that kills though tricky. Do you remember gas lights?

What kills is lack of ventillation

Well, we've had a little thaw of the snow during the day, but it's gone really cold and crispy now.

Really tired at the moment - burning the candle not only at both ends, but in the middle too.  Had a really poor day on Friday, feeling hot and cold and not very well.  Trying to get from one place to another amidst the snow, and hoping that other people will manage to turn up.  Chaotic week this week and next week.  Always relieved when Christmas Day comes at this stage, but still enjoying all the concerts and practices.

Sprinkling of snow with very hard frost overnight.  Woke up during the night to the sound of a thunder storm!  Apart from doctors not going far today.  Fire will be lit, Christmas lights on and doze in my comfy chairwink

You're right, JVB66. I only had one delivery to do yesterday evening. The rest of the time it was dead. Then I was told that the website was giving out a message to the customers that the delivery service was closed due to the weather. They tried to re-open it but still no orders. By 8.30 p.m. the manager gave up and offered to let me go home. So it was an early night for me!

Beautiful looking day here in MK but very heavy frost overnight and we now have compacted ice on the estate roads. Wonder what the chances of a thaw are today? Got a new bed being delivered this evening from JL so hopefully they won't have any problems. Hopefully one advantage of having the main JL warehouse in MK!!!

The frost is just going here. Have been speaking to our elder daughter who lives in Warwickshire where it was -11c last night and still frozen. The rural college where she works has been closed but it looks as though things are improving today. We're off to a Christmas concert tonight, a last minute parcel posting first and a walk in some sunny fresh air beckons. smile

It seems to be thawing a little here in N Warwickshire, at the moment, and I hope that rain, forcast for tomorrow might see most of it off.

It's nice and warm in the awning with the sun coming through the front window. I spent some of the morning sitting in the relaxer.

Still really cold here, off to turn the heating back on.

Heavy frost overnight and still white on the ground as it is a dreich day.

Just finished fitting the new LED worktop lights in the kitchen, so project almost complete, only the tidying and cleaning up to do and shelves to fit in the new cupboards, and the pine plinth and end panel to varnish once that second vent cover arrives.

We have some new  ceiling lights to fit too, but far too cold to venture into the loft to wire them in meantime!

Waiting in for word on a delivery of new chairs for the Guide Hall, delayed due to snow down south.

Just about to start putting stuff in new van. Van is a warm 21C, I shall pass boxed stuff in to OH as she is more likely to slip on the ice to and from garage and then I can unpack in the warmth before it goes dark. Then I can have the joy of wrapping OH's presents! Need to finish final packing tomorrow as I hope snow will be gone for Thursday

Very cold but also very sunny, all schools bar one(boiler broke) open, roads very busy,  buses having real problems owing to cars and their"drivers?" still unable to cope with the conditions undecided,so i walked into town for eye test and back, the anti slip grippers worked wonders as i passed several others walking to and from towncool

one of our neighbours has said he measured the depth of snowfall sunday and it was 9 inches in their garden and 11 inches on the local open fields, surprised and there is still plenty laying with most of the side roads still bad as they are now sheets of ice,and temp still at freezing of below, frown

Our daughter sent us a lunch time snow picture from the edge of Warwick, still looks like a lot of it around. I expect the local lanes are still pretty bad.

I bet you've found the snow grippers are useful JVB. smile
