Bakers - Arbuthnot? Eh? Where did that come from? Glad to hear it's going well with the little fella.

No idea 😲. We were standing in our kitchen transferring the little fella when asked to name him and without a hesitation OH came out with Arbuthnott. Rescuer laughed and said we haven' had that name before so won't be confused with another - how do you spell it 😂😂😂

Does that mean you are now not 'on call' or daughter doesn' have her own keys?

Keys now transferred. She usually has the back door one but couldn't remember code for safe box by back door! Her mother calls her "An educated idiot", but obviously not to her face!smile

DD and her husband have a combined income of more than twice what we have, so they will be paying their own way, I  only  contribute skills and labour as SIL is useless at DIY.

They will be suffering when she takes a year off as she is the higher earner.

New grandson, when he arrives, will get a child  investment plan like the other 2 grandchildren have.

Otherwise we are happy to provide child care, but financial contributions  will be minimal!

Only so much one can do on a pension.

Where did you learn your skill, KjelNN? Apprenticeship or from your father?

My father was in the Services and as we lived on camps all DIY as allocated to those who were trained in that sphere. Dad never bothered with any of them. Mind you my brother was and still is excellent at DIY. Me? Couldn't change a lightbulb but liked numbers and maths equations so went down that route.

Where I grew up, in the north of Norway, with only one shop nearby, no tradesmen, no road to the nearest town until the late seventies, you had to be self sufficient.

My Dad was a farmer and a fisherman, he and my uncle ran the farm and boat together, so they had to be able to do almost everything.

He was a very practical person, and I seem to have inherited his skills, my brother is pretty useless  at DIY.

I have always been interested in woodwork, electronics, and making things.  At university I studied civil engineering, and later went into offshore and shipping, so generally a practical person.

I have the mindset that if you figure out how to do things, and you have the right tools, then things are easy......there is no mystery in plumbing , joinery, etc.  Even electrics if you know what you are doing.

My daughter takes after me, she is also interested in learning how to do things.  OH is a great cook, and loves sewing and gardening, DD  has also inherited her skills, and has added a few of her own.

DS is not really interested in DIY, but he has the income to pay someone else to do  things, though he does not refuse my help!  He does bits and pieces, but does not have a lot of spare time.

I enjoy a challenge and working out how to do things.

Glad your neighbour's distant daughter has arrived WN. Although I am sure she has a difficult time ahead. It sounds as though it isn't going to be easy to persuade her mother to move. I feel for the mother as well as it sounds as though she has been a very independent lady.

I hope we are going to see some lovely photos with your newly repaired camera OP.

I have spent the day doing washing, ironing and housework as we have a busy week ahead. I have also made a start on the Christmas cards this evening.

It looks like nice weather here for my day off. I'll have to make the most of it as it's back to work again tomorrow, then another day off for Thursday.

Only 3 weeks to go until our two week Christmas and New Year holiday at Baltic Wharf CMC site!

Was dry when Rosa and I set off on our walk at 0730 ,which did not last as we both got soaked  as there is now no leaves on trees for shelter, and it is now very soft ground so now needs care when walking through the woods and across the meadows,so looking forward to the return of frosts to make for nice firm ground

Dry and bright here in Essex so listened again to forecast and as a result did a load of washing. As the machine finished it's gone grey and BIG drops of rain which aren't coming to anything.

Birds are very active this morning, they haven't been lately, and in greater numbers. There are queues at the feeders! Are they preparing for the forecast cold? Much better to watch them for weather indications.

Off to met friend for lunch, I hope her spirits aren't as low as I fear. Coming up to the first anniversary of the death of her grandson 😢.

Tricky I hope results from blood tests are OK when they come through. How are you finding homeopathic meds? Still early days. Hope the funeral goes well.

Sorted out a get together lunch with friends next week, OH has gone out on a fishing permit round for the local club to the various outlets, they seem to be doing quite well. Nice and sunny outside but a bit damp, other than that nothing to report. I had a look at a Toronto newspaper (familiar to me) interesting to see the royal engagement had no mention except to say the white coat came from a Toronto fashion house, how much it cost, available in two colours, sold out in white!

Back home again 23.00 last night. First time flying abroad eith EasyJet have to say was impressed, both flights got away on time with no fuss boarding. Both flights arrived early at destination, and service and comfort on plane very goodsmile

Woke to beautiful sunny but frosty day here in Perthshire. Suitcase emptied and first load in machine being washed free of charge as solar panel is clocking up nicely.wink

Garden is going to need some clearing up, the winds have stripped most if the leaves of trees and bushes.

I've  been trying my best to avoid it but guess I can't put it off any longer, what's that you ask, well it's  this thing called Christmas.

Really don't feel it yet, have no idea what we are doing but doubt we will see anything of either boys and their families frown might just hunker down and hope it all goes away.

OH is going to be doing more treatment of the drawer fronts andworktop, I am off to paint the nursery again.

Only a small room, but it has a lot of edges I need to use a brush on, so will take a while.  Better take my lunch with me!

Sitting here at Birminham Dental Hospital waiting for an appointment half an hour ago, while the meter is ticking on my parking charges!  I still think it should be free parking at these places!

Went to see elderly Aunt in Runcorn today. Met up with 2 of my cousins who were there so we had a good chinwag. Lovely sunny day but biting wind.

Just after having lunch a white van drew up near us. Didn't see anyone get out but went to wash my cup. Then decided to get something from the garage. Opened up the hall door leading to the front one and there was a parcel from Amazon. White van man gone. Hadn't bothered ringing the door bell, just opened the front door, left the parcel and scarpered. This is the second time this has happened. Going to have to have words with Amazon as it has frightened MIL. She does actually keep the door locked when we are not here but anything that frightens elderly people can't be acceptable.

We get free parking at our hospital, visitors and patients. If attending an out patients appointment we are sent a slip of paper which we can put in the windscreen showing we have an appointment this then allows us to park in specific areas of the car park. At nearby Dundee Ninewells they sold their carparks, the charges there are eyewatering.

Lovely morning here but now clouded over and starting to rain. Given the way the temperature is going might be snow showers by tomorrow.  OH went Christmas shopping, visiting the bank to get some cash. Ours now has open personed desks, that utilise machines to dispense and count money. You tell them what denominations you want and they hand you a machine counted wad. To avoid holding up the large queue other half left the desk before checking it, only to find it £20 short. She reported it and got them to check and they also found it short, but said they would have to check the machine at the end of the day. They just phoned and said there was no discrepancy. So we won't make that mistake again, in future the queue will just have to wait, while we double check their machine.

Ours isn't bad if you are a regular visitor. When my mum was in for a week. £15 bought a pass that allowed you to visit as often as you liked and was not car specific. However, if just a short visit it's a bit pricey. £1.80 for an hour but £3.60 if you stop for 61 minutes. The one good thing is there is no problem getting a space.

Really  think  it  will  need  the  Wisdom  of  Solomon  to  solve  this  to  the  benefit  of  all undecided !

City  or  town  centre  hospitals  etc  do  need  some  form  of  control  on  "Non- hospital"  parking,  and  so  do  those  on  the  outer limits  too  !!

I  know  of  several  ******  *****  who  used  to  park  at  Leighton  Hospital,  CREWE  and  then  catch  a  bus into  town  for  a  days  work  or  shopping !  Since  the  Parking Charges  came  in ( some  years  ago  now ! )  I've  never  failed  to  find  room  for  the  Ducato,  but  if  I'm  taking  somebody  I  drop  them  off,  &  park  elsewhere  &  wait  for  the  fone  call.

    A B M

    P.S.

Might  be  able  to  afford  a  few  sessions  there  now,  'cos  Winter  Fuel  Payment  has  just  landed  --  Wooopeeee  !

Been another cold but sunny day, had to go to the retail park at lunchtime,  really busy, everyone must have started Christmas shopping early.

It's VAT time at work again, sorted all new insurance documents, not very exciting but has to be done, all customers need copies.

Glad you arrived home safely Tammygirl and enjoying your holiday.
