All through our married life, until we got the motorhome, we have only owned one vehicle as it made little sense to have a second one as we both worked in the same place and have never lived more than three miles from where we worked. We now have a small car which suits our needs as a run about and is fine for the odd long journey. An electric car could suit us but I think we will stay with what we have for a while.

Came across a CL whilst doing some perusing the other day that had EV charging points! I think from memory that they made a charge of something like £4. On Anglesey I seem to recall (but then again maybe not). My memory could do with a recharge I think.

Weather dreadful here in North Wales. If the sun is out then by the time you've got dressed for going out it is tipping down with hail or sleet mixed in.

We were due to take our elderly neighbour to a shopping mill as she needs some nightwear and is not able to get to shops herself but she has hurt her foot. Have to leave it for a week or so.Decided to stay in and make a traybake with apple and rhubarb instead. Nice warming lunch with custard.

I'm having a completely unproductive day today. Have been round to see if elderly neighbours are ok and that's it...maybe start the slow process of doing Christmas cards, about 60 to do, so a few at a time will show willing.....smile

Lazy day for us today, it was a bit overcast when we got up but it later burned off to produce another nice day.

OH watched the F1 qualifying while I did a bit of sunbathing, then we went along the coast to Torrax for a drive and a nice walk along the sea front, started to cloud over again in the late afternoon but still warm enough for T shirt and crops.

The weather has been really nice this year, last year they had heavy rain and many towns flooded, plus lots of ruined crops. If we couldn't  make it out with the mh would certainly do this again. Not looking forward to the cold weather back home.

Same here, our classic is an MGB.

I know what you mean DK, I never worked more than a couple of miles from home, but I did need my car for work. Luckily, I got a very generous lump sum and mileage deal that took car of expenses! As long as I had vehicles inspected via  the work's depot (who hadn't got a clue really, I stopped them putting a 4x4 on a rolling road one time!surprised) I could also get a very cheap loan to buy one as well! OH used to do all our cars in terms of repairs and renovations, but nowadays it's more a case of hooking up to a computer and paying a fortune! MG and older Jeep still respond well to a whack every now and then with a lump hammer!

But as you say Brue, things change, it's easier sometimes just to let someone else mend it nowadays. Especially in Winter!laughing

Cheating a bit here - this is copied from something I posted elsewhere (Facebook actually) - saves typing it twice!

    25 Hours from Strickley.

We left home yesterday about 11:15 and arrived back today about midday.
A short but quite wonderful getaway. The highlight, and main reason for the trip, was a Chris Rea gig in Harrogate. The second tickets went on sale I was clicking and buying two front row seats. And then the hotel next door.
We’ve been to Chris Rea gigs for many years, and to me this was the best ever. How he manages to tour with his health issues I don’t know. But long may he continue.
Some people grumble that he barely speaks - but he communicates and engages with the audience with every word he sings, and every note he plays. He has a knack for making you feel he is just looking at you.
His voice may be older, but is unmistakably his own, and as good as ever.
Songs from his latest album were mixed in with old classics, and felt as if he’d been singing them for years. There were many stand out songs (in fact almost all of them).
Some to lift you up and some to make you cry. Well me anyway!
He finished on a high, with us all on our feet - answering his call to “Let’s Dance”

OH has had another sight test and it's agreed they haven't measured properly! So ave to make up new glasses. Why they couldn't have sorted it yesterday is beyond me. Maybe if we didn't live within walking distance we would have made more fuss yesteday,  certainly not funny if you'd driven in and paid to park 😤

Have the distinct feeling the devil is on our back at the moment 😢.  OH went up for a shower before trip to optician to find the floor soaked and the toilet cistern leaking 😭😤. Luckily stop value on the inlet and a mop up - thank goodness for dog towels. Further examination shows rusted through fitting. Stupidly he was examining it all over the wash hand basin without the plug inserted and the washer slide down in the gap 😭😭😤😤. For now we have a retro flush, watering can beside the toilet, hoping to fix tomorrow.

Better news on the drying washing front, three loads dried outside and it smells wonderful 😆. We've had breeze and jolly cold air.

Milliehull when I read you were off to watch football this Monday it bought back mixed emotions - that sideline can be freezing but I do miss watching our son. I hope the game was a good one and family harmony is restored 😉.

Bit of a slow day, did not get as much done as I hoped.

DD got new tube of  silicone, so utility room now 100% finished.

Taped all woodwork in nursery , sorted her TV aerial cables, then painted all edges and corners.

Then it was 17.30 so we came home to make dinner.

OH helped DD to unpack and organise some of her stuff, she is despondent as she reckons she needs more cupboard space!

Going back tomorrow to do first coat with roller, maybe do second coat later in the week as I am busy on Monday.

Thanks Bakers2. It was a great morning although very cold. The wind was coming straight from the Artic! Both grandchildren played very very well and had a good time. We call them The Cousin Twins. 7 year old grand-daughter and grandson were born wthin 24 hours of each other in the same Materinity Unit and in the same room (although not at the same time 😄). We then went to take them to see The Paddington film but it was all booked up and we hadn't booked 😡 so tears from grand-daughter and a long face from grandson so have now booked to take them tomorrow. It will be a busy  day as we are out for lunch with friends first. Glad your OH has got his spectacle prescription sorted out.

We have 2 cars. A Nissan X-Trail which is our tow car (diesel) and my Clio which is petrol. I would be loath to give up my car and neither will be changed anytime soon. When we have to give up our caravan (hopefully not for a few years yet!) we  might think about getting a hybrid.

Hope you like it. We were thinking of going there over X-Mas again, but am going to College Farm, Alkborough, near Scunthorpe, instead. That's another good CL which, if you haven't been to, is certainly worth a visit.

Enjoy your trip to Mexico, Natasha.

We've not been fortunate enough to have a frost, just rain and sleet and hail. Luckily enough we've managed to get our walks in dry so far today. The Lakeland Hills & The Howgills are draped in snow, and late last night we had the most tremendous lightning flash and the loudest crack of thunder that I've heard in in a long time. All jobs finished on the car and caravan now so ready for the off, when we decide to go.

Dropped our caravan off at the dealers on Thursday just before noon with all the unused bits and bobs from the loft. Sales person that we are dealing with was not working Thursday or Friday but phoned to confirm that they are totally happy that the van is in good condition as described. When I dropped it off I got them to write me a letter confirming that they are covering for insurance at their risk until the PX. Hopeful pick up the new caravan on Tuesday next week. The only thing that I forgot to include was the waterpump. I suggested that the new owner would not want a mucky old pump and that they should provide them with a new one wink

A phone call at 4.20 in the morning is not the best way to be woken up and one that tests the old ticker. Anyhow, it was from the care assistance people who asked us to check on our elderly neighbour. She had fallen. 90 minutes later and the paramedics carted her off to hospital for X-Rays. Possible cracked rib and bang on head. She's 93.

We told her we're putting either her house or ours up for sale before she comes out😀.

No point going back to bed.

Have to call in at hospital today and also sort out her meals on wheels. Can't contact her daughter who lives in remote part of Scotland. I think she's due back at the end of this week.

    Raining again!

I ended up working overtime yesterday evening because an order came in just before my finishing time, for a delivery in Worthing, so it was almost 11 p.m. by the time I got back to the caravan. By the time we'd finished our evening meal it was midnight before we got to sleep.

This morning we got up to a lovely, sunny but frosty morning here in Lancing. Working again tonight and tomorrow night, then day off on Tuesday. I also got next weeks rota of 20 hours altogether. It's getting busier now that it's getting closer to Xmas!

It was nice to see the warm glow of the Christmas tree lights in the front window of the caravan as I drove into my parking space next to it! My wife had it all set up ready for when I got home!

Not a good situation for you WN, we have two similar elderly neighbours, no careline either. Their house has been for sale for nearly a year now, quite a bit of interest but they refuse to reduce the price! The family have not made any effort to improve things for them. Hope the situation for your neighbour improves.

Off to see my Mum today,  might get an hour outside before travelling, nice frosty clear air.

Hope the new van goes well EasyT, can you test it all out before your Christmas trip?

    Plus 1.

Very difficult situation - hard to say no to having your number as contact for an emergency button, but much depends on the 'real' relatives attitude 😉. Even more difficult if there is no family. Being independent and living alone is all about balance. People' expectations need to be managed, both the vulnerable  person and those like brue's neighbours. Some need to take a good look at where the duty of care actually lies 😉

Brue hope you find your mum well.

Malcolm I hope you realise what a very lucky man you are with such a helpful and tolerant wife. I would not be producing meals, you may find a sandwich ready but that would only be to ensure you didn't need to make noise and disturb me,  at that time of night.

Glorious morning here. Need to check on motorhome in storage later as it a good sunny cold day. Then we have to see if we, that's the royal we!, I'm a good labourer, can repair the toilet cistern. Don't want to contemplate new and all that brings 😲😲😲. Just under 5 weeks until we're away!

Looks like they will be keeping neighbour in for a while.

She did have a fall earlier in the year and her daughter has looked after her for a few months but I think both needed a break from each other. They've both agreed that she needs to either go into a care home (which "Mother" definitely doesn't want) or go into a Wardened housing. She is now waiting for next available unit (which obviously means she is waiting for someone to pass away) but is next on list.

Spoken to Care people who say that daughter picked up her voicemail message and now knows and I've also spoken with her Grandson who lives in Manchester.

We really don't mind being point of call. How can you be? Up until this year she was very independent, still driving, still going out socialising. You can't suddenly decided to stop caring because it becomes difficult for you but we could do without early morning phone calls. Good news very rarely arrives at that time.

Still I have managed to prepare tonights meal so not all wasted.smile

    Hope everyone well.

Looks like I am going to be busy today SWMBO is off out for the day so I have been tasked with packing the new caravan. All the essentials will be going in and also I am going to set up the aquaroll  and try out the water system also going to give it a rinse as it got all salty on the tow home on Thursday. Also going to advertise out little 107 and A-Frame for sale as we no longer need it due to the MH being gone

No not all wives, my OH would not expect me to cook a meal at that time of night, neither would he wish to eat one at that time.

Given the time that Malc starts work we would eat our main meal prior to that and a bit of toast or cheese and biscuits with a cuppa would be all that would be required on return.

The last 20 years of working OH used to do a couple  of late nights a week, returning home anything from 23.30 to 02.00, of course I worried about him, especially in the winter nights as his journey home took him over hills.

However I would go to bed knowing he was a grown up and a good and careful driver, he never got beyond the front door and I  would be awake.wink

What I meant was, don't all wives prepare a meal for their husbands at the end of their working day?  Especially if they are at home all day and not working themselves.  Personally, we would never eat our main meal at that time of night but the preferred time is down to the individuals involved.  Incidentally, I am a 'wife' ...sometimes I think that my chosen user name was a mistake as, on reflection, it makes me sound like a bloke! laughing

I usually phone her as soon as I finish work to let her know I'm on my way home. When I get back she always comes out to greet me before I even get out of the car. In the caravan she has the sliding small table ready with a drink and snack and then assembles the folding table ready for the evening meal which is freshly cooked. I can smell the food cooking as soon as I walk into the awning. She even helps me get my shoes off and has my slippers ready for me. I get well and truly pampered! She says 'lovely Malcolm,' you got home safely, thank goodness!

I think I couldn't eat a meal just before going to work. I wouldn't feel relaxed enough to enjoy eating at that time.
