Finally made the Christmas cake today and also took a painting we bought for our DIL for Christmas to be mounted and framed, so making progress. Our daughter popped round while the grandchildren were at football training at a local school this evening so had a nice catch up with her.

What a day up here...wall to wall rain. There's been flooding at both Ambleside and Keswick, although not to the extent following Storm Desmond yet, although more rain's forecast for tomorrow.
We had to go into town this morning as Flyte was due his Parvo booster and we had an appointment at the building society. We managed to dash round without getting too wet, but I've also been out with him 3 time, for his walks, in full wet gear....wellies, overtrousers, anorak and brolly... for me not him obviously. We've not had the winds yet, but there are 14 Flood Warning for Cumbria with some roads already closed. Perhaps it will ease off for our last walk but I'm not holding out too much hope.

Now have the hoglet we saw in the garden at the weekend ensconced in a large box with bedding, dog food and water. Managed to pick it up tonight after feeding it for a couple if nights. Weighed it and shocked I was way out on my guess at its weight, just 144g 😲. After much phoning around I have found someone who can nurture it through hedgehog haven. It'll be collected tomorrow evening so I must do my best in the way of nursing for 24 hours!

Nellie what a day. Hopefully the worst is past rain wise and floods will get no worse. The wind is just picking up here now, no rain forecast.

I'm impressed with all these cake makers and Christmas preparations. Was hoping to get away with Christmas as a very low key event this year, but it appears I will have to do more than I thought. Just need to ensure leftovers can be frozen or handed out as folks leave 😂😂.

Stay safe Nellie. Bit pointless cleaning the van though. You could have waited for the rain and gone out with a brush ( says he with a still dirty van)

Pleased to hear that you've managed to rescue the hoglet. Hope that it survives the winter, There are too many dead ones round at the moment.

I'm glad that I managed to clean the van properly last week, as the water is beading nicely on it. It should be easier to clean next time round, hopefully.

So far it's looking calmer today. There were several road closures round here, and some were only passable with Landrovers etc.

Between 03:00 and midnight we had over two inches of rain and it has to run off somewhere - the fields are already waterlogged.

Wow - what a night that was! We had torrential rain and very strong winds and at one point I thought I'd be waking up to a wrecked awning. But apart from the fact that it's under water, it's survived and we've woken up to pretty much a perfect late autumn morning with the sun shining and clear blue skies ( and no wind!). So a bit of clearing up to do first and then deciding on which walk to do today. May head off to Bibury though it's bound to be pretty muddy everywhere.

Hope everyone has survived intact if you've had the same weather! smile

It was quiet when I first started work and then got busier as the evening progressed. I was supposed to finish at 8 p.m. but they asked me to do an extra half hour so finished at 8.30 p.m. instead. It was very windy towards the end.

During the night the wind got worse. I woke up at about 3 a.m. because the caravan was rocking. One of the awning poles came loose and also one of the guy ropes. Nevertheless, the storm straps did the trick and the awning was still together until after the storm had passed.

We've had a quick scoot round the fields and there's no damage done - the water has gone down and there's lots of wrecking of course.

Our cellar floor is just flags laid on the earth (no building regs back in the day), and when there's heavy rain water comes up between the flags. It's gone down now (just a few puddles) but we reckon there was  8 or 9 inches last night.

We're wise to it and everything is stored on shelves, or the raised granite slabs a wise ancestor put in. The only stuff to get wet is coke and coal.

That does not sound good M. I did not know there were any pitches there that flooded and we have been ther when it has been very wet. 🌧 Don't forget your trout for dinner if you are going to Bibury.

Bright sunny day here in Notts and set to remain the same, wind was not too bad this far east. Off to do some shopping in Newark.

It's chucking it down again today. Fields and the paths around them are ankle deep in mud. Little wind and if dressed correctly for the weather, walks with the dog are most enjoyable.  This is when I'm glad that I'm not away in the van.

Beautiful sunny autumn morning here. Wind now dying down. At one point in the night it was very strong and woke me sounded like someone wheeling a wheelie bin or skateboard down the road - to idle to find out 😉. When spoke to OH he'd it to too so we're none the wiser. Have just retrieved large cardboard carton in the road and put in our recycling but it wasn't there earlier so maybe something similar.

Glad those of you in you vans are OK,  hope you dry out soon moulsey. Goldie delighted to hear over the years sensible precautions have been undertaken in your cellar, hopefully coal will be dry before you need it 😉.  Malcolm hope you didn't have any damage from awning pole.

I was about to set off to mother but now delayed 😉. Was to return newly purchased PCB as not right. Naturally ours is discontinued 😂😲😤. We learnt all this from our retired plumbe who lives opposite us and has come over to help. Hopefully he's tracked one down as old stock, so OH and him have gone off to see it. If it' not right whole thing needs to be rewired. Ho hum. So I'm on hedgehog duty, it survived the night 😆. Also as we only have one car these days I'm not cycling 12 miles each way 😂😂😂.

Update yes right pcb now ours. Fingers crossed. I'm off to mother.

We seem to have escaped the wind here in the west, some rain, but not bad, and now we have brilliant sunshine, though I doubt it will last long as clouds are moving in from the west.

My screws turned up in the middle of the night.....well it felt like it....actually 8am today, very sheepish Parcel Force delivery man.

At least I can now get on with things.

Did you get your heating going B2?  Not good to be without at this time of year.

Sunny here too but the wind has gone round to the NW and I feel a distinct chill in the air. Just watching the plough going round the field by us, most of it was done in the dark earlier in the week finishing it had to abandoned yesterday. A nice ploughed field looks good. smile

Curates Egg of a weather day.

BT man has been and replaced the box that they replaced last year plus he decided that the ADSL that BT supplied with a new hub last month may have been part of the recurrence of the Broadband and telephone problem. I'm not going to hold my breath that things have finally been sorted out but I know it is not weather related as yesterday we had the Broadband connection all day and the weather was atrocious.

Who has done all their Christmas cards? I'll have to do some soon especially for those going abroad.

Spoke with my sister in Norway on Skype this morning to check she was OK, they have had some very bad weather with high winds too.

While showing her my drawer project, I realised I had fitted the runners just a bit too far forward, so have had to remove and refit them all.  embarassed

Must have been a senior moment!

Plus yesterday I made all the drawer backs 25 mm too wide.  At least they were not all too narrow.    Not doing too well on this project it seems!

Now very grey here, and getting colder.

Glad to hear all survived the bad weather.

Lovely day here again, decided to go to Granada this morning. Lovely drive up the coast then up into the hills. As we approached Granada we saw a horrible yellow brown foggy cloud hanging over the city, didn't look very appealing and given we are still coughing all the time we decided to change our plans and head up to the hills. The Sierra  Nevada national park to be exact, so glad we did it was stunning. Blue skies and sunshine with views in every direction. Snow on the high peaks but it was still nice and warm, drove up to the ski area where everyone  was busy getting everything ready for the winter season.

Lovely drive back then a nice Paella down at Burriana beach watching the sun set. I could get used to this.

Oh KjellNN 😲😲 hopefully sorted very quickly.

Delighted to say new programmer PCB was exactly like our kerputt one so just had to wire in the new one 😆😃. Now working nicely and I have programmed it. Our retired plumber overaw OH fitting it. We are so grateful that he managed to track one down,  comes from being in the trade, so it was 'cheap' to sort, cost of PCB £74 plus a drink. At least a little expense for this particular repair. We've had to replace burglar alarm, house phone, microwave, a tooth for me, new glasses for OH and private specialist for me in the last 6 weeks so hoping we've finished our spending spree. In Malcolm words it's added a decent amount of cash back on the credit card 😉😉

Wind here has remained quite strong most of the day and the sun was lovely didn't check the thermometer.

Hedgehog photo, it is very small it was weighed in the holiday dog water bowl. Should be collected about 7pm.

Wouldn't let me post with photo so will try in a mo.

We're on one of the wide HS pitches just to the right as you enter the site Steve. In fairness, it drained away very quickly this morning - it was a really torrential couple of hours of rain though. Didn't get to Bibury as the walk I'd planned came back along the riverside, so probably quite a quagmire. So we walked the lanes around Barnsley, some great views, usually pass through that village. The pub looks good, but a bit too classy to pop in with muddy boots and a wet dog! smile

K - there's no such thing as a bad time to be away in the van, surely? wink

It is small I'm not convinced it's the one we saw at the weekend, so will have to keep our eyes peeled. Had difficulty finding a home for it as locally they're all full 😲😲. Would be quite happy to nurse it through myself but can't. I' asking for it to be returned. Our large hedgehog hasn' been seen so we presume it' hibernating.

    Sounds like a great holiday.
