Slightly off topic but worth a comment. On arrival at a C&CC site when the site is already busy with maybe one or two pitches left available, having some direction by the accompanying warden is a godsend.

In all the years we have been members and useing cc sites ,we have never been given a list of pitches to look at before being allowed on site ,we have often been given a map with "available "pitches, with a comment that it may not be up to date as some had not advised of the pitch they had taken,but we have always been let on site with our outfit to look and choose,

Yes, spot on. Also I can't see Cooks or whoever saying 'didn't you book a few holidays with us already? sorry you've had your quota 'more like 'you want to give us more money, yes please sign here' or words to that effect.
Also it is first come first served when booking anything, theatre, meals...

Well we've been allocated a pitch and given no alternative every time we've used a C&CC site. It doesn't bother me as most commercial sites we've booked allocate pitches as well. The best bit about it is that we are taken to a HS pitch because that's what we've booked.
I could make a list of things I don't like about the procedures of either club but at the end of the day if there's a site where I want to be then I'll consider either. I'll also consider CLs, CSs, private sites etc.
This club tends to get my weekend bookings because the late availability search is hands down the best thing about it.

There are some WTG, that see this organisation not as a ‘Club’ but as a business providing a commercial service, but only when it suits them.
When the organisation changes its name for example, then suddenly it’s ‘their Club’ again and how dare that organisation do such a thing without asking first.

I don't see it as a club. I don't see the other club as a club. I don't think of the savings club at work or the health club as a club.
It's a membership organisation and I have chosen to belong to access certain services for my own reasons. The organisation can and will make changes to suit its business plan. I may or may not continue to pay my annual subscription.
If the business plan decrees that people making weekend bookings will have to take second place then the 'club' becomes less attractive to me. It will however become more attractive to others and that's the way of things. The headline number of members isn't completely static.

I have visited over a hundred different CC sites in the last 10 years. There are three sites where you are advised to park and walk. Cherry Hinton where there is plenty of stacking room and a lot of cul-de-sacs Gwern-y-bwlch non facility site with a steep access in places and dead ends, Last time there (been twice) I did not walk up as I knew which pitches I wanted and two were free there when I enquired. Also at Battle Normanton. The other 97 sites I just drove and selected having been warned that there was an odd cul-de-sac.
When a site has been full I have simply asked where I might find some free hard standings and a marker has been applied to a site plan to highlight some. Having set the caravan I am happy to stroll back to the office and report chosen pitch and pick up barrier card etc.

One of my MD's used to say, when people complained that things were unfair, that we could either have equality of opportunity or equality of misery. I think there is a ring of truth about that. The Club have always said that they make all pitches available to all members at the same time so equal opportunity. It then becomes the member's responsibility to make of that what they will. I suppose such a system will always favour the organised but is that the fault of the Club? The system might be simplistic but if you mess with it all sorts of problems could occur and you could end up with a greater problem.

I tend to agree David. Keep it simple is the best approach IMHO. On the odd occasion I can't find a CAMC site with the availability I want, I either look at a different site on the network or look at a non-club site. I don't find it a big issue.

The truth is that there aren't enough pitches available at weekends for the number of employed members. Hopefully the age of members will continue to increase so that more and more folk will be retired.
I gave up on Club sites after spending my first couple of nights on a Club site just to feel my way into m/homing (and discovering that I didn't like their size and regimentation), so have preferred rural CLs ever since and because there are so many to choose from I don't seem to have a problem with getting weekend pitches.

I don't see it as a Club and they can pin any name on it as far as I'm concerned. What matters to me is the service offered is what I require and if it changes to my detriment then I'm off.
I will also take a four seat table for two, I know none of you on a personal basis so if I'm in there first, then it's all good for me. Looking after number one and my family has always served me well, and if I'm beaten to the post by a weekender I will accept that also, and look elsewhere, happy camping

As pitches take people on them, I can't see a difference.
As to your second point I am all for helping anyone when I can, broken down, van not working... ie real problems, but as for letting someone have my holiday or stay on a particular site a) I really don't see that as a problem that they have that's needs helping and b) no I would not give up my family/holiday time for anyone. If it's available I'll book it.

Agreed, Corners. Not being able to book your ideal site is hardly a problem, more a minor inconvenience as others are available.
I do like the equality of opportunity that exists in this club with no group getting special treatment to the detriment of others.

Just booked a week away with a holiday company, including over a weekend. Very easy, no problems, I am happy. Cheap as well!
And I didn't have to pay a deposit!
