Can I suggest they carry out randon excercises with speed guns which will display the speed to show to the driver.

David Klyne as I have just mentioned I never mentioned speed guns or speed humps for that matter. Speed guns may not be your way of relaxing on site but I can assure everyone sitting outside my caravan with speeding vehicles is not my way of relaxing either.

    Harry

I am a bit puzzled by your comment referring to me. I appreciate that you didn't mention speed bumps but unless I have misunderstood your original post you did mention speed guns, as I have pasted above from your original post? My point about speed bumps was that the only real solution is some sort of traffic calming which inevitably means speed bumps. I was just pointing out that whilst that might solve one problem it could introduce several other issues for members. I don't know whether you have been particularly unlucky with regards to sites but we have used about a dozen or so sites of different varieties this year and I can't say I have notice speeding as a particular problem. That could well be that I am not paying much attention although I think I would notice if someone went by my unit at the sort of speeds you are suggesting are common place.

I wonder if 5 mph, these days, is a realistic speed limit. Can anyone honestly say that they can judge this speed (which isn't even indicated on our speedometer).  If it isn't, then perhaps the C&MC would be best to keep cars 'off site' unless actually pitching up and unloading,, ie parked elsewhere, so that people are free to wander at will, children to cycle where they may, and for everyone to be in absolutely no danger from anyone else.

As others have stated it is easy enough to drive at a brisk walking pace, no real need for a speedo.

Unless the CC are going to pitch our vans for us, cars parked off site would not solve the problem of the Friday arrivals Grand Prix start, to find the best pitch.☹️ Or of course MH's.

    Apologies,

I understand why you were puzzled. I was when I re read it.

What I meant to say at the beginning of the sentence was that I never mentioned speed humps, that's all. The bit before that was a repeat from my post, pasted below. The result of not reading the post through before posting.

Perhaps the use of the word “gun” was to aggressive for some so please substitute that with, speed monitoring equipment.

I stand by my other comments. This was the worst case of speeding I have ever witnessed on a club site. Perhaps in future it may pay to back it up with video footage.

I would not choose to use a site where my car was not to hand. I store things such as outside chairs in my car.

I suspect that many can judge the speed very easily Val as many have a sat nav. Mine tells me that on tickover in first gear (with or without caravan) I am travelling at 4mph. Now I appreciate some cars may be a tad quicker.

Perhaps lifting barriers would be more effective than speed humps. Having to stop to raise it or alternatively your passenger walking on in front would automatically set your speed at an appropriate level. It would be kinder to chassis as well.

It's not my fault you are dislectric TW, there is not a moan in the post.

It was just to state that some jump on these threads just take the pxss.

If one doesn't like joining in a thread with constructive comments then don't, just pass on to the next one.

It seems that most drivers will use any excuse to avoid obeying a sensible rule such as is being discussed here.

ast ste we were on speed limit was 10mph. Didnt seem to make any difference .Lets face it any rule/law is useless unless enforced.

The biggest risk on site is traffic v people, we can be visible on site but once observed members slow down. We do stop people and advise of excessive speeding but at the end of the day the onus is on the person driving !!

As said previously I do 4mph on tickover in 1st. If the vehicle did 7mph not a big deal in my view. Some sadly do seem to do considerably more however.

We also stop people from speeding including whilst off duty walking the dogs. One day in the summer I did that and the driver wound down the window and asked who I thought I was telling him about speed, when I said warden he changed his attitude.

As Mark has said the driver is responsible.

If you change gear from 1st there is a 99.9% chance your speeding if you drive an automatic stick it in manual 1st.

Really nothing better to moan about???

Perhaps we should go back to the early 1900's and have a warder with a red flag walk in front of the car when on site after all they don't have much else to do.  Or like many sites abroad, once pitched you park your car in the car park, only allowed back when leaving.

Or of course there is always the other alternative, stop being such a  nosey parker and enjoy your holiday.smile

In reality the same old threads are a bit like Gastric Reflux, but then again this Forum would be dead without them so they do serve a purpose laughing

Speeding on site is one of my pet hates as well. OK 5mph is difficult to do in a modern car but we aren't talking here about those who do 10mph which a lot of people would agree seems like 5mph, but much higher speeds. Earlier this year a car passed our pitch doing far in excess of the speed limit, then realised he was on the wrong road to his pitch and promptly reversed at speed back to the junction. I was able to get his attention and 'tell him off' and he did seem to go on his way more slowly. I then informed the Warden who congratulated me and said he wished more would be prepared to challenge speeders.

However, I have often been surprised that some wardens speed around the site on the tractor when 'doing the bins'. Last year at Brighton we watched the male wardens repeatedly speed, but saw the woman warden observe a very sedate speed when she was on the tractor. I say no more!

Perhaps they are the same folk who think 40 mph through our village, seems like 30 mph ☹️👎.

If those of you that dislike the discussion refrain from posting and regurgitating fatuous comments it would be helpful to those that wish to treat it with the respect it deserves.

Perhaps it should be mandatory to have a pedestrian walk in front of vehicles moving on site, possibly equipped with a red flag.

mmh! fatuous or not undecided, that's as silly as DD's doggy kebab laughing

It seems that an 'adult' discussion can't be had about an important subject..... please stop complaining about someone posting a valid objection to other members behaving like id*o*s...

If everyone adopted a sensible attitude towards this (and the 'dog' problem) we might get a resolution!!

Keep up the good work HarryB.  Lots of us think the same way!
