Speeding Again

I wonder if 5 mph, these days, is a realistic speed limit. Can anyone honestly say that they can judge this speed (which isn't even indicated on our speedometer).  If it isn't, then perhaps the C&MC would be best to keep cars 'off site' unless actually pitching up and unloading,, ie parked elsewhere, so that people are free to wander at will, children to cycle where they may, and for everyone to be in absolutely no danger from anyone else.  

I would not choose to use a site where my car was not to hand. I store things such as outside chairs in my car. 

I suspect that many can judge the speed very easily Val as many have a sat nav. Mine tells me that on tickover in first gear (with or without caravan) I am travelling at 4mph. Now I appreciate some cars may be a tad quicker.

It was just to state that some jump on these threads just take the pxss.

If one doesn't like joining in a thread with constructive comments then don't, just pass on to the next one.

It seems that most drivers will use any excuse to avoid obeying a sensible rule such as is being discussed here. 

The biggest risk on site is traffic v people, we can be visible on site but once observed members slow down. We do stop people and advise of excessive speeding but at the end of the day the onus is on the person driving !!

Can you advise some of your colleagues as well please as where we are they have strange ideas of 5mph on the buggey

Perhaps we should go back to the early 1900's and have a warder with a red flag walk in front of the car when on site after all they don't have much else to do.  Or like many sites abroad, once pitched you park your car in the car park, only allowed back when leaving.

Or of course there is always the other alternative, stop being such a  nosey parker and enjoy your holiday.

Speeding on site is one of my pet hates as well. OK 5mph is difficult to do in a modern car but we aren't talking here about those who do 10mph which a lot of people would agree seems like 5mph, but much higher speeds. Earlier this year a car passed our pitch doing far in excess of the speed limit, then realised he was on the wrong road to his pitch and promptly reversed at speed back to the junction. I was able to get his attention and 'tell him off' and he did seem to go on his way more slowly. I then informed the Warden who congratulated me and said he wished more would be prepared to challenge speeders.

However, I have often been surprised that some wardens speed around the site on the tractor when 'doing the bins'. Last year at Brighton we watched the male wardens repeatedly speed, but saw the woman warden observe a very sedate speed when she was on the tractor. I say no more!
