What are you all up to

It's a lot easier than having to go to work, Tammygirl, where you have the stress of the job on top of all that! My pension is not enough to retire so I've no choice but to keep working delivering freshly cooked pizzas to hungry customers and hoping that they look kindly upon me when it comes to tips!
I have some huge bills to pay. My wife's visa is due for renewal. Her visa application fee is £993. The rules are so complicated that it's necessary to engage a solicitor to do the work involved, at a cost of another £1440 plus extra cost for disbursements in connection with this work. The visa fee only pays for the Home Office to look at her case. It doesn't mean the visa will be agreed. If it is refused, a new application will have to made at another cost of £993. On top of this I must pay another £560 for health service cover without which the visa cannot be granted. Furthermore, another £150 has to be paid for the level 2 English language exam the she must pass to qualify.

Wow is this an example of the North south divide I wonder? I've just checked back, I had a crown in April 2016 lab fees £161. This is going to be £255 😲.
Maybe they use an expensive lab? Maybe property rates and wages are higher here? Don't suppose I'll ever find out, as can't ask him to shop around! I fear he'd say off you go to another practice. Been with him for 30 years, very nice very gentle, went the Denplan route to stay either him.
Bicycles sound good, hope your OH chosen size delivered quickly so you can get to grips and pedals 😉 properly with them. Good luck on the instruction manuals, nothing is easy these days once it was just get on balance and pedal 😂😂.

Been busy sorting the garage. Two runs to the tip with the Yaris. Probably another tomorrow. Stopped to rest back before making tea.
I found an electric corded hammer drill that I didn't know I had! About 6 years ago I redid the bathroom as a shower room. Part of the work involved a lot of drilling into hard brickwork and just about finished of my electric drill that I bough when doing OH's kitchen and bathroom 15 or more years ago. Rather than use my Makita cordless and 'hammer it' (pun intended) I bought a heavy but cheap drill at half price due to a damaged case hinge. It was used to finish the work and haven't seen it since until today as I have used the Makita. I got rid of my fishing rods to the tip sadly except for a combination rod that up until 15 years ago was always in the caravan when I was on my own and off fishing at weekends. Handy rod for a caravanner. Probably 7 piece that made a useful fly rod, pier rod, coarse rod or spinning rod. That went to a neighbour who motorhomes. Also gave him a good spinning rod for his lad to use. He separated from his wife about 9 years ago, but often goes off with his son and/or daughter in his beautifully converted panel van. Nice that he and is wife have remained good friends and as he works shifts with decent days off the share the childcare, school runs etc. Before I start on the garage tomorrow I must go into the loft and bring down my 5 fishing reels for him.
I tipped my golf clubs as I have not played for 8 years due to arthritis and they were long in the tooth but the golf bag and balls etc has gone to charity.
Have got to get rid of two folding bikes and carrier bags bought 10 years ago. Bags were never used but the cycles were on local cycleways up until about 5 years ago when my hip and knee became too bad. Also a simple bike that I used to use down to local supermarket.
Found somebody who will take my petrol leaf blower and give a cheque for £65 to charity. He chose Macmillan and I am fine with that. I bought it probably 15 years ago as we had half a dozen oak trees on the railway embankment at the back of the garden and we had an oak tree in the garden as well. Two years later our tree came down in a storm and the following year Railtrack cut down the oaks behind!

My wife tells me that she thinks there won't be much change out of £3000 to complete this process and even after payment of this, she is advised that it is unlikely that more than two and a half years further stay in UK will be granted.

Just checked back through our accounts book, I know sad aren't I? O H paid £95 for crown in 2009 and £260 for bridge work in 2012. So we have consistently higher lab fees.
Not sure there's a way of changing it as I said before as I expect words to the effect of find someone else. But it is interesting to read both yours, Brue's and Tammygirl comments in costs. I may phone denplan for a chat but I don't expect other than I've already said.
Just have to bite, pun intended, the bullet. But think I'll do it before the tooth repaired just in case!

If they are still sharing everything, wouldn't it be best that they just stay married?

We visited the National Trust Petworth House and Gardens this afternoon, the grounds were full of spectacular Autumn colours. On the way back we stopped off at WWT Arundel and went on the last boat safari of the day, following which we spent some time in the Discovery Hide. Fuel in the Smart car down to two notches, so filled up at the Tesco Extra pfs for £27 before returning back to our caravan.

I'm still about every day Millie and am very well thanks. I don't always get down as far as this thread unfortunately. This thread moves so quickly these days and I have real difficulty in keeping up with it all. It's funny how things work out, as it was me who started the original thread with a similar title. It was then re-started several times over with a slight change of title when we used to get all those 'blank pages'. Great to know the thread is really going strong - I always look in from time to time! 😀

Bakers, this doesn't make sense as you seem to be paying roughly the same price for a crown and myself and Tammy. The bridge work is on top ( or it could be on the bottom set for all I know
). Maybe I'm missing something here or just getting confused.
Off to watch a rare TV programme on Sky Arts now.

Obviously the marriage did not work. She has a new partner now. My neighbour seems quite content as well as a single man. They seem quite relaxed together now that they have separate lives and it is indeed a shame. No idea what tensions might have been present before they separated as I think that they have different ideas about the things that are important in life.

DSB Are you involved with Beverley Minster? Our lovely Acting Dean, Jonathan Baker, at Peterborough Cathedral left us a few weeks ago to be Vicar at Beverly Minster. We shall miss him so much. Our loss is Beverley Minster's gain.

Years ago we used to get subsidised membership of HSA (now Simply Health) which meant that for any dental work we got a certain proportion back. As a result we didn't join Denplan despite our dentist trying several times to persuade us! Eventually we got to the point where we felt we were paying in much more than we were actually getting out of the scheme so called it a day. We do now have a small savings account to cover things like dentists and glasses which seems to work quite well. However I am pretty sure that we have paid much more for crowns something like £300/400 with a private practise not NHS. (MK had very little choice in NHS Dentists a few years ago so we opted to stay with the same dentist we have used for the past 38 years) I don't know how much Denplan costs but they seem to have different schemes, some just covering check ups others more comprehensive. I suspect we are stuck with what we do now.

Just catching up with all the news over the last couple of days. We've moved up to a CL at Rode, near Frome, a couple of days earlier than expected as our stay at the last CL was more than rather fraught. We very seldom ever leave a site earlier than booked but things were wrong from the time we arrived. However all's well where we are now, so that's just one CL to cross off our list for a future visit.
It's been a lovely warm sunny day, we even managed to get the washing done when we arrived here and it's all dry, ironed and put away now. Just hope that it continues fine till the middle of next week at least as we've places to visit and people to meet.

Denplan is now, and has been for sometime, Simply Rewards. Years ago, I do mean years possibly 40+ when I joined I belonged to the Hospital Saturday Fund where for pence a week I got half back on cost of glasses and dentist, possibly even an in-patient allowance. Stopped that when I left work to have our eldest.
Been with this dentist about 30 years and held out as NHS as long as we could with him until it was Denplan or change to another NHS dentist in the practice, opted to stay. Premiums are less than a check up cost every month and we get to see him every 3 months for check up and clean, we don't see a hygienist, all work except lab fees I'm certainly not complaining.
Our lab fees seem much higher than others are quoting on here, a recent crown lab fees being £161 where others are saying £100. Could well just be cos we're in the London effect??? Or our guy uses pricey labs.
