The plans to visit St Michaels Mount today were put on hold, just a bit too windy, decided to detour to Falmouth as we'd not visited the town before. Bought some excellent pasties eaten outside over looking the estuary,  being slightly battered by the wind.😂😂

Still breezy, but we are in a sheltered part of the site so awning has survived ☺ Site still really quiet OH says only 12 vans 😯.

The wind might have deterred the surfers today, but the wind surfers were having a great time, 😉

Helen our family in N.Ireland are OK at the moment. We rang them about an hour ago and they are hunkered down in the house and will stay there until the storm passes. The schools are closed again tomorrow which the children think is very exciting! Thanks for asking. Glad you are OK. Stay safe.

We had the peculiar sky and red sun this afternoon. It was wierd and felt a bit like the apocalypse.

We've had a warm but not sunny day. Had a walk around the village of Helions Bumpstead, rather small and quaint. 14th century church,  village hall pub closed and forlorn, just four roads meeting at a crossroads. Watched a kestel trying to get its dinner in the stubble field but unsuccessful everytime time, 5 that we watched, but that could well have been the stiff breeze! Rather breezy continued once we got back and ate lunch outside, lovely sheltered site whilst the sky turned yellow and as and when the sun was able to be viewed through the cloud it was red. Can only compare to the eclipse but it wasn't cold and it didn't go dark, but wasn't bright either! Final sunset spread of colour. Breeze calmed now but it was lovely watching the leaves on he ground dancing across.

Hope everyone is safe, milliehull I hope you hear soon all is well.

Glad you had a good day Bakers2. Wasn't the weather odd. It gave me quite a strange feeling. Hope you stay safe.

Still very little wind here, strange yellow sky around midday, then brilliant sunshine for a few hours.

Good to hear that your family's fine so far, Millie.

We saw a few cars with surfboards on top heading south on the M5 this morning. Guess they were heading for the Big Surf. It was an interesting drive down to the Dorset coast, although not too windy. I didn't realise how hilly and narrow in places even the main roads are this way. Wind had died down a bit this evening but have strengthen now. Hopefully this will be the tail end of the storm.

Hope you stay safe Nellie.  I wonder whether those surfboards stayed on top of the cars or whether they got blown away!!

Some stronger winds here now, we have secured the wheelie bins and  made sure the caravan steadies are firm.  Our bedrooms are downstairs so we should not hear too much wind noise.

OH went down to DDs house, they are away for a few days, and secured their bins and greenhouse.

We have been today to the 9/11 memorial in New York,  a truly amazingly exhibition built showing parts of the foundations in their original position. Many of the original girders are displayed.   We were there for over 4 hrs and could have spent much longer.

Very very moving and although it was very busy it was unbelievably quiet.

Caught the bus into Scarborough yesterday and spent several hours visiting the castle and walking along the front. Unfortunately the last day of our late summer was rather spoiled  by the mist and apparently dust, but it was reasonably warm. The castle was fascinating, with great views over the town, even with the mist. I think we must be on the pivot point  for the storm edge, as it swings more easterly, the strong winds started about 6pm yesterday and are due to continue until noon today. Gusting about 40 mph now, but was stronger in the night. Everything still seems to be in place, although it is lifting the tiles in the facilities block ceiling, as you enter.

What a stupid person!  Would they have expected the rescue services to go and help if they got into trouble?!

I did phone her. She found the handbook but couldn't find the correct number. The handbook is quite thick and she didn't know where to look.

Strangely enough Smart Assist is available on your phone isn't it? You were able to post your car break down on here with your phone but you could have used it for Smart Assist just like May Day and any other call outs?

Well what a contrast today was! Not a breath of wind, just rather overcast but dry. Met up with Helen & Trevor (& Bodie!) for a walk around Trelissick then lunch at the Punchbowl & Ladle - a chance to put the world (well, the CT part) to rights.

Mrs M's birthday tomorow so I'll have to be up first (again!) to make a cuppa and cook breakfast, then find a way to avoid spending the day shopping. wink

A dry still morning here, near Weymouth, but the clouds were a strange colour with unusual formations till early afternoon. We parked up near Hardy's monument on Black Down and had a walk along the South Dorset Ridge Path. Just got back to the car before the rain started. exactly as forecast by the BeeB this morning. Has rain on and off since than and is still raining now.

Please pass on birthday wishes to Mrs M for tomorrow from us both, moulesy. Glad that you all had a good day out today.

Well today we went to The Caravan and Motorhome Show at the NEC for the first time. For a few months we had been talking about possibly going back to caravanning any way today we went for a "look" and ended up agreeing to trade in our motorhome for a new Lunar Quasar fixed bed caravan which we are due to pick up in December we got a VERY good deal. We have been motorhoming for 4 years now but have been missing the caravan over the last year or so. So as of next month we are caravanners again after a 4 year break lookong forward to it although we will be sad to see our motorhome go but time to move on.

Took our van back to dealers today for a few minor bits of warranty work.

Talking to the staff I now realise that the "Great Unwashed" can indeed still get worse. There is a new sign that the dealer has put up asking that customers who are viewing the caravans do not avail themselves of the toilet facilities as a) It is Unhygienic b) There is no water in the flush tank c) there are public toilets available by the shop and d) Who they do think is going to empty these toilets?

The staff say that some of the toilets in the caravans are a disgrace.

You just despair sometimes don't you?
