Booking System
I see on FB that the club are reviewing the booking system. I don't use FB but access it via OH. It would be nice to get some updates on here too if the booking system is under review. How would you update the system? I have never liked the initial booking day, much preferring the civilised rolling system used by the other club. I can book a year ahead with the other club now, choose a pitch type and pay a deposit to confirm my booking. It works for me.

I certainly would not want to see the restriction of a minimum stay when booking which is my biggest gripe with C&CC.
When touring, to find it is only possible to book a minimum stay of 2 nights at certain times at some sites on some pitch types (inconsistent) when only an overnight halt is required is inconvenient and frustrating. Many a time I've gone to a commercial site instead.

I am a fb user but keep useage tight. I see on another thread it is suggested by staff that a review can be made on fb.
I have looked at the clubs fb page can't find anything apart from comments on photos. Can't get all the replies up. How would you search for reviews? As bad as the website is once the right link is found its simple.
As bad as the search facility is on this forum there is loads of fantastic tips, advice, reviews etc.
As you say brue would be nice to have a thread on here, after all they must think it worthy to have posted it on fb 😉

I have just asked the question on live chat and been told by Peter that bookings open 6th December and remain the same process as previous years. It is not the best system but not really sure how one system can suit everyone. My biggest worry is membership is growing every year but we do not seem to see many new sites opening or even existing sites expanding.

It is also what prompted me to look, I didn't know each site had an FB page. If you link a Club site on your FB page, e.g. checking in on a Club site, I am assuming, if it is open to the world rather than a restricted audience, it also appears on the site FB page.

Where exactly do you find such posts? I have just had a quick look and can't see any reference to the booking system.

Just had a look again David, it was in "posts" under a photo of Brighton Beach. There is a comment "just glad you are looking at it" which followed the response....interestingly I read that comments have been filtered out..... I suppose FB can swiftly be manipulated in such a way but it was there earlier from a staff member (I did see the name.) Hmm.
I suppose we are lucky on the forum to have a certain freedom of speech, even if it causes the odd hoo hah! I wonder if the member of staff had been a bit presumptuous and removed the post? Apologies all if my post also looks the same.

Agreed EasyT but it's great for free personal messages anywhere in the world 😆 and now free video calls along with phone calls, again worldwide. Definitely a case of horses for course. Useless as a forum with hints tips and advice such at CT 😉

Found a response
Hi again Susannah. We are looking at our booking system and procedures & considering all different options to book in the future. Watch this space! ~Helen
Wouldn't it be luverly if three could be a comment by staff? Luverly Luverly. Not sure these posts monitored by staff over much these days - on thread started a couple of weeks or more ago got reply today https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-together/discussions/club-talk/club-membership/found-offline-the-caravan-code/?er=P461081#P461081

Without you saying where it was I couldn't have located the comments. User friendly compared to CT I think not. Bookings comments on CT see thread booking system, even Google will pull it up if CT search doesn't. Fb booking comments read every post under every photo. Life's too short.........
Legit reason to be on fb during the working day 😉. So cynical in one so young 😂😂😂

Thanks Brue
I found it, hardly systematic!!! It does make you wonder how much importance this forum is now given by the Club as such a subject has been discussed here at length with many ideas and suggestions. I have just left a post on Facebook with my preference. Be interesting to see if a) it survives and b) if anyone replies.

Finding anything on Facebook makes this forum look like a 'well-ordered index'. That's not to say that this forum doesn't need some serious revamping by some IT people who are halfway competent.

I don't use FB or participate in the mad booking rush in December ( or whenever it is ) but I do like the current system & here's why:
Had an original plan to stay at Bunree site next week & booked accordingly online a week or so ago. Saw the weather forecast on Tuesday & west coast of Scotland is wet every single day next week, whereas south east England is going to experience a mini heatwave, so on Tuesday evening we cancelled Bunree & re-booked for Daleacres in Kent

Sounds sensible after reading the expected wind speeds on the western side of the UK!
I've just had a look at FB and can see David Klyne's posts and DSB's and the replies from the staff stating the comments will be forwarded.
It would be great if we can have our comments passed on from here too.
I like the idea of booking a pitch type and don't think grass pitches will be too empty if they are sold at a cheaper price (as the other club does.)

Booking preferred pitch surface is the only change I want
Rolling release of pitches would make a huge difference and I suspect that's likely to be the change. I didn't read one of the responses as being particularly positive with regard to deposits. I don't object to deposits but it does make amending bookings with the other club rather more complicated than it needs to be
Some people seem to think deposits will make a big difference. I doubt it very much. Rowntree and the like will still book up just as quickly

I don't know how much the Club staff on Facebook are in the loop as far as possible changes. If they are they seem to be ruling out deposits saying they didn't help in the past. I agree that the only change I would like to see is being able to book the surface type where that is an option. The C&CC seem to manage that, albeit at a small extra charge. If it was the same amount, ie £1 I wouldn't object to that.
Unless they are thinking along the lines of making booking rules stricter I find it difficult to think how they could change the system for the better other than booking pitch type?

Members will have various ideas such as being able to book a specific pitch etc (not advocating it myself), but as you say, the most obvious is to be able to book the surface type. That merely plays catch up with our own affiliated sites, commercials & the C&CC, and is long overdue.....
If that brings about a crisis of pricing & under-utilisation of grass pitches then good. It's about time the desirability of grass pitches was tested in the market place........

Yep C&CC. Pay 25% or £25 which ever is less for bookings of 2 days or more. Pay in full for one nighters. Cancel 30 days before if you want a refund. Works well for the Majority of members? Not what I read on their forum!! So for my annual bookings around £750. Not a problem for me but if am unable to do a tour I stand to loose £200+. I suppose if the CC wish to sell UK travel insurance or Cancellation Insurance then that might be the way to go.
What else is great about the C&CC? Minimum bookings of two nights. On some sites in peak season 3 nights and on some 5 nights. Must be great for weekenders!
I have joined 'the friendly club recently on the off chance that some of their sites might come in useful. My main bookings will be with CC. Can anybody see why?
P.S. The booking system and deposit seems only marginally less liked than the C&CC's 1pm arrival across the board.

I think the lack of deposits and the ease of altering dates is one reason why Club sites are so popular. Remove that and price will come into the equation far more.
We are also in the other club and this year used 3 of their sites, which were all good and about £3 per night cheaper for an equivalent pitch than nearby CMC sites, and were in fact better placed for what we wanted. Plus we could book a hard standing!
