Lovely day today. Youngest son has been over in London on business this week and decided to extend his visit so he could come home for the weekend. We have had a really great family reunion with an Indian take away at ours this evening. He flies back to N. Ireland tomorrow.
I have always fancied going to Dunwich Wherenext. It sounds a fascinating place.
How lovely that KjNN and EasyT met up on site.

Have been to Dunwich years ago when we rented a holiday cottage for a family holiday nearby, we had two weeks of Suffolk sunshine, lovely!
Hope Tammyg enjoys the journey home and your Mum settles in ok. I'm at home at the moment so that someone is around for my Mum whilst my sister takes a few breaks. She's off to Spain next, hoping things don't get too unsettled there, at least she's further south for this trip. We take it in turns to go away when we can, I'll have to wait till November.
Nice to have your son around Millie. I saw our son in the week, then he borrowed my camera and I'm missing it already....must claim it back asap.
I sat in front of a nice warm log fire last night, it's that time of the year I think, time for some cosy evenings. But tonight we're going to a brass band concert so that will liven us up.
Have a good day, it's a bit soggy and wet in Somerset just now.

Another day of getting up to drizzle but it cleared up again on the drive to Neufchatel, arrived at 13.20 not bad going as we didn't use any toll roads. OH now sat with feet up watching the F1
we phoned ahead to reserve a pitch as it can get busy here, no need its fairly quiet.Brue, we tend to take it in turns for going away too. We get back on Thursday evening and my sister goes to Australia for 3 weeks on Saturday.
Sorry to hear your OH was poorly while at Montlouis-sur-Loire WN, think we need to look for another site in that area, nice as it is the road noise is awful, i had earplugs in overnight so slept ok but OH didn't have a great night, he's a bit of a grump just now

Good run from York to the south Lakes this morning, now on a very spaacious and flat pitch at Meathop Fell. Weather going rapidly downhill, quite a bit of rain and wind now getting up, going to be windy here tonight I believe.
Wifi not too bad as the site is not that busy.

In all honesty Millie there is not a lot to the place but on a sunny day the views northwards to Southwold and Walberswick are lovely as is the view over the reedbeds nearby. The small village though used to be a major port, second only to London, at one time so the museum tells a very interesting story. There is also an excellent Fish and Chip "Tearoom", an excellent pub and the remains of an old abbey. The walk over from the Coastguard Cottages that belong to the N.T. is over the heath and at this time of year is full of the lovely colours of the Gorse and Heather

Very fine (but persistent and wet) rain here today. Not a day for stirring out unless you have to. Luckily my farming is limited to the indoor stuff.
We had a drive out earlier to Lancaster - to recce a new-to-us venue and nearby car park.
Now the wood burner is lit and a chicken dinner in the oven, while I ignore the work going on outside and continue reading "Enigma" by Robert Harris.
Pointless doing anything else.

Finally after 50 years of living in Norfolk we've visited Sandringham House on our fourth attempt. First attempt got rear ended in Norwich, second attempt hit a Pheasant and smashed a headlight, third attempt MIL taken ill. Today was perfect and enjoyed the visit. BTW Her Majesty makes perfect fruit scones

Just to cheer you up its been raining in most of France for the last couple of days too. Supposed to be nice Tuesday and Wednesday here, hope so as OH wants to 'do' some of the WWI sites. Tomorrow is hopefully dry if not sunny, might get the bikes off and go along the cycle path towards Dieppe. Ferry on Wednesday overnight to Hull.

At the risk of teaching Grandmother to suck eggs, regarding first World War battlefields, try to see Newfoundland Park on the Somme battlefield. Search out 'The Danger Tree'.
If time allows, the town of Albert with its museum is well worth a visit.
If you have never done the battlefields before, it is a sobering experience, and you will want to go back.

Thanks for the suggestions, Albert is on the list as is Beaumont Hamel. First time doing the WWI Battlefields, did some of the Normandy beaches a few years ago.
Thanks Kj, safe journey to you too. Been a shorter trip this time just 5 weeks but need to be back to let sister get off to Australia to see her son. Will probably go away again come November once they come back, providing OH doesn't have to have an Op on his shoulder.

We also saw lots of MHs and caravans on the road today, I think a lot of we wrinklies are heading homeward now the weather is not so good, and Sunday is usually a good day to travel.
Also Sundays will be busy with weekenders heading home as well as those who have been somewhere for a full week or so.
And of course, lots of we pensioners head off on a trip on a Sunday to avoid the busier weekend days.

Yes, we will be off next Sunday for our next trip. Like a lot of people that's when we prefer to travel. It is quieter on the roads and also when we arrive on site as the 'weekenders' have left. 😊

That's one of the reason we often travel on a Sunday too, Millie, as we did today. It was pointless trying to see any of the scenery though as it was very mistly, drizzly and there was lots of road spray too.

I couldn't sleep because of too much pointlessness on this forum so I got up and made myself a cheese and pickle sandwich plus a cup of tea.

Bit of a no no day here yesterday, strolled out to Lidl for a few supplies. Turned out I'd made a pointĺess decision first thing as I decided not to strip the bed as wasn't sure about weather. Pointless in the end as I ended up stripping it and mopping up the carpet after knocking over a full pint of water. I always take one up, it stays in same place every night, but somehow I caught it as I turned back the duvet. Luckily the bed got some but only wet the sheet and dampened the undersheet. Panicked as feared it would hit the plugs for clock and lights. Phew it missed 😃. So a complete bed change before I could get ready for bed. I did put the thicker duvet inside the clean cover which pleased hubby, so not entirely pointless 😇. Didn't overheat myself which was a pleasant surprise 😂. Bedding on the line, summer weight duvet in the washing machine so pointless turned into useful in the end. It's also dry here with a breeze, so should all end well 😉

Safe journey's to all those travelling today, hopefully the wind won't be too strong. Little breeze here in Essex at present.

Glad Bakers2 enjoyed it after finding it on YouTube.We had a busy day yesterday, very autumnal today with leaves blowing around.
Just remembered I didn't wipe out the van fridge last week after our trip away!
