Irresponsible dog owners

I'm not one to normally moan about dogs as I've got 3 Westies,However there appears to be more and more dog owners who let their dogs constantly bark, I'm sorry but naughty naughty boy isn't just good enough. Dog owners need to respect those members who don't have pets and come away for peace and quite. So if your dog constantly barks please get a grip it isn't hard to train either the owner or the dog.

    Why? Because they choose to.

So, what did you do about the problem, Simon?

Barking dogs do exist. Can't say that continued barking is common.

Oh yes indeed but that's what dog's do isn't it? Me walking by and a dog barks is not a problem, at least to me.

I meant in the quantity that these threads seem to indicate.

Some breeds are naturally vocal, terriers for example and it can be very difficult to train it out of them. These dogs may be highly trained in all other aspects but will still yap, especially when restrained on a tether.

In most cases of a yapping dog, it isn’t aggression but is often frustration because the dog wants to get nearer to the other dog or person, to greet them

It takes a lot of patience and plenty of positive Re enforcement to remove this trait but it can be done. However, there are many owners who just plain don’t know how to do it, simply shouting over a dog that is barking, telling it to be quiet will never work and will usually make matters worse.

Ive witnessed plenty of these dogs and their owners on site and I fully understand why some get very annoyed by the noise. I agree it has to be controlled but sadly, without educating these people and therefore the dogs, it’ll unfortunately never stop.

Dogs use barking to try and communicate something so it is often impossible for some to be completely quiet. My WCS is highly trained and has done some gunwork, where she’s not allowed to ever bark or she’ll be kicked off the shoot, however she sometimes barks at passing children on scooters. Something in her past that I’m unaware of has spooked her and this is why she does it. I either try and distract her or remove her from the situation, as a last resort when on site, i’ll put the windbreak up to hide her view of the site road. Half an hour chasing a ball in the dog walk area works too, tire her out

Yes agree, and out of 24 hours on site, I'm asleep for about 10, and out off site for a minimum of 5 hours each day!  The rest is spent dozing or drinking

I'm getting a sense of deja vu as this thread seems to mirror the one Ro closed yesterday.

you should start your shop Husky. I noticed that our local butcher has started taking bets. He's a smallish chap and he had some lovely meat hanging up above behind him and when I asked if he would cut me some he declined saying the steaks were too high for him.

I'm a dog owner and I will admit that dogs create friction , not just on sites but in towns ,villages etc ,  the problem is how to deal with the offenders in the right way so everyone ends up happy

There is also no chance that those who are anti dog, will on the rare occasion that there is a problem that has upset them,  do anything about it at the time by contacting the site staff, but will just moan on here or in a site review or on leaving will leave a negative comment in the site comments bookundecided

didnt one poster recently say that, after bringing an incident to the attention of the warden, they were told that the policy was 'non-confrontational', ie the 'offender' wouldnt be spoken to.

so what os a complainant supposed to do, if attempting to resolve the issue immediately by those 'in authority' is (pretty much) dismissed out of hand?

I have just had 5 nights on a very good commercial site. I did see two dogs on site. I have just moved to a Club site and was immediately greeted by a yapping dog and I have seen at least one owner with three.  It is all quiet this morning and the night was peaceful. Club sites do seem to be a magnet for dog owners.

I'm the owner of a well trained dog which gives us hours of pleasure.

Do I have Rose Tinted specs about dogs or dog owners ----- NO.

(IMO - There are no bad dogs just bad owners )

I have seen incompetent owners allowing their dogs to behave exactly in the manner  many people have voiced concern about on this forum.

Why then is any member who dares to bring bad dog owners behavior into a discussion, immediately vilified and insulted.

It's a discussion - Just discuss in a friendly and adult manner.

    cool

It was dog ownership and the difficulty and expense of holiday boarding that led us into caravanning because the site fees are about the same as holiday boarding fees. So we effectively now pay for the dog to pitch up whilst we come for free.

I was on a site two weeks ago where a dog could be heard barking almost constantly, even I as a dog owner I very soon tired of it.

So while walking my dog around the site I headed towards the wardens office to file a complaint. It was during this short walk that I realised that the culprit wasn't on the site but a farm about three fields away. embarassed Just as well as it could have been very embarrassing if I had reached the warden first.
