".....IMHO, the wifi should be free at all club sites, to charge and not deliver (consistently) is not good enough."

That's a good reason for maintaining the status quo. If it's 'free' we would all pay through increased fees for an inferior service whether we chose to use it or not.

in your opinion, of course, TW...

in mine, i think its worse to charge someone specific the full price for non/poor delivery....

according to some on CT, CC has pots of cash, even saying the rebrand was bidgetted an affordable.....

a decent incusive wifi system for all would have been cash better spent, IMHO....

hiding behind 'too far from the exchange' and 'too many members would want to use it' isnt good enough these days....

as far back as 20 yrs ago we moved our operations 30 miles up the road to a 3rd party site.....we still had 600+ desktop users with a first class service as the correct infrastructure was put in place....

it just depends wether the club is serious about proper wifi delivery or not...to deliver poor service and pass the buck to the contracter is even worse....each complaint should be managed (on behalf of the member) right through to resolution...

no doubt the monthly service review meetings will be giving CC accurate stats on the number of complaints and the 'level of service'...

however, we all know how wellundecided CC manages its IT issues....

    lets agree to differ....

We are just back from 3 weeks in Ireland.. They do things rather differently than here in the UK. There were charges for showers, awnings, dogs, and even hot water at washing up sinks, however if there was WiFi it was free / included.

Did it work ? Sometimes. Did it cover the whole site or was it just near reception ? Sometimes. Could you actually get logged on to it ? Sometimes. What happened if it didn't work ? Absolutely nothing, as it wasn't a paid for service. Be careful what you wish for .... wink

back OT, IMHO, the wifi should be free at all club sites, to charge and not deliver (consistently) is not good enough.

poor wifi is a recurring theme on CT, and passing a site off as 'bronze' or whatever is just an excuse for poor service

I have only once had significantly poor wifi in the past several years. I am  well pleased in general.

If I holidayed less and used CC sites less I would probably just use a mobile router. As it stands however I find that for me the CC wifi presents excellent value.

I've yet to get a consistent site WiFi on club sites ..... sometimes it connects & other times it doesn't on the same site, yet easily connect via my phone.

It depends on how many are useing the Wifi on sites in mostly rural areas at the time, and why at times it is so slow or non existant,we have some friends in Norfolk who live in a country lane and they say are lucky to get on line if all the houses (nine)are on line, and BT say they are to far from the nearest "box" but are willing to improve it if the houses are prepared to pay about £9000

No idea whether it is equipment difference or what but, other than at Clumber I have only once had a short term problem for one day part way through a 5 night stay.and that was cured by warden rebooting the router I suspect.

Never any failure to connect otherwise. Never tried using without logging in however.

Talking with the warden the other week. They are hopeful of it being sorted very soon. We will be visiting in January, when our van is serviced, so I can check then. In previous January visits, one with only 8 vans present, it was abysmal. ☹️ At other times with more vans, forget it.👎

...and on sites that are rated 'bronze' (rubbish) why isnt the daily/weekly rate (if there is one) less than on a 'gold' site.

if the club recognises that the service will be worse, does the charge differ?

The wifi at Clumber Park i understand is a BT fault that affects the whole of the Park NT as well, and a "hotspot" building near the office on the cc site is an option,  Commons Wood also has problems with poor Wifi which could get worse when the new housing estate on the old hospital grounds is occupied

Might get a bit complicated though BB. Because even on most Bronze sites we have had OK WiFi in the week, even on fairly  full sites. However, at the weekend, because I assume of the younger demographic and the site being totally full, the server goes belly up and WiFi ceases to exist until the wardens have rebooted. So are we going to have a different rate for different days of the week.😉

Trouble with a hot spot is, it only works if there is any bandwidth in the first place. Currently with Clumber it is more or less non existent. Given that it has been going on for years the club should in fairness have removed it from the list of sites with WiFi. The current statement, which is far from prominent on the web site, is totally misleading for any new visitor, as it implies there is some sort of service.

"Due to the location of Clumber Park we are currently unable to provide a full Wi-Fi service at this site. We are working on another solution to improve the Wi-Fi signal for our visitors as soon as possible."

I believe the promised upgrade will utilise fibre, so hopefully will be much better.🤞

    no, why?

a simple suggestion that sites that generally arent as good, and rated appropriately, should be charged accordingly, a lower rate....

only on CT could there be a suggestion to introduce unnecessary complexity so that even something as simple as the above os made complicated ......perhaps this is why every debate gets bogged down......undecided

If you bothered to look at the winky thing BB you would have realised it was not a serious suggestion. The point is and remains, that at most times I use them, the quality of Broadband on a Bronze sites is fine. So why the need for a more complicated price structure.

It would seem that it is you that is trying to introduce uneccessary complexity.

Just had a quick look. Phones cost as much as an iphone and Pay as you Go charges range from 47p a minute to £2.00. 👎

No idea about data but I doubt it is low cost.👎

Steve, with the sloppy use of emoticons, its hard to tell which comments are seriouswink

i dont think a (single site) pricing system is 'complicated' if its based on the ability of that ste to deliver a decent (expected) service to the customer...

mind you, i didnt think booking a HS/grass pitch was particularly 'complicated'undecided

Did you experience signifivant problems with any?

no, but my wife did.....(i use my own mobile data) and regretted her 'investment' (rip off i think she called it) of £25.

whilst your own wifi experiences seem to be nothing less than perfectwink, theres enough comment on here to suggest its an issue for others.

the club even grades its sites, confirming that the service would be poor if customers actually decided to use it.....

hence, to me it seems reasonable to have a price differential based on the clubs assessment of its ability to deliver somerhing it asks customers to pay for.

i dont find that concept a difficult one to grasp....however others do.

no worries either way...OH nor i will be investing again.frown

Just to satisfy my curiosity. Do these work inside a caravan, without an outside aerial? As if not, you would only be able to make calls, not receive, unless stood outside. Not a pleasant prospect in our climate, much of the time.☹️

...but 'others' choose to pay by the day/week, and where they do, id be wanting to know what i was expecting and for a 'poorer' serviced site to be cheaper than one which works well....wink

perhaps, JVB, you were one of the members who found the latest trial 'complicated'?wink (astute use of emoticon as prescribed by Steve...)

When on club site I will use the free wifi if its up to it. However we have a mifi which we have been using all this year 12Gb valid for 12 mths.

Much more reliable much better speed and cost around the same as the clubs £25 a year fee.

The difference is I can use it anywhere, not just on club sites. Currently sat on a site in the south of France, I could use the sites free wifi if I choose to walk over to the restaurant area, or I can sit in my van and type this. smile

i would not now pay good money to the C&MC for a service at best ok at worst is unusable. But hey that's me.

Can you also  advise BT,or any other "provider" that is what you would propose, as i do not think their internet charges are any different to how good it is in any areawink
