Where are the Brits?

According to Google maps it's about 1165 miles from Notts, so a fair way from home, a lot of it in an easterly direction. Although I know quite a few travel even further south into Spain. Is it just that area is not particularly popular with Brits, or have you seen more in past years?

ill have a look out. in the Royan area from Tuesday...

OCSID The pound has made holiday's in Europe much more expensive and I don't think it's bottomed out yet
So we found and IMO it is the most probable reason we were so thin on the ground. Those going seemed of an age where running out of time would be more critical than the cost.
I agree with the speculation it has not fully "bottomed out".
More in hope than confidence there is some recovery coming soon?

....and youre off again (over there) soon, arent you?
isnt the relevance that we all are happy to zoom all over the place if that what suits us?
im sure many do come to the uk for all the things you say, but probably not for the camping experience.......
.not at UK prices and levels of the facilities they're used to....

Yes, David, Slovenia is a lovely place to stay; we were near the Italian border and hired bikes to cycle to Tarvisio on one of our two days off walking; we also took a bus to Bled and Bohinj. This time next year we're planning a return visit to Croatia. But when we go to Europe we fly and stay in hotels, we like our holiday comforts! And we can only be away for a couple of weeks at a time because I still have to keep tabs on Dad who'll be 91 in a couple of weeks time.
Soon we'll be off to Barcelona and the Pyrenees; next January we're going to Costa Rica. We love the opportunity to travel now we're retired but equally love all that the UK has to offer and would not want to miss out on all that variety.

We go to Italy usually twice a year, spring & autumn, fly and hire a car on arrival so would not be immediately clocked as "Brits".
We were on the Italian Riviera (Portofino area) this spring and usually like an autumn trip to Sorrento/Amalfi area but we have not booked anything for this autumn, nor next year at the moment, the collapse of the pound v euro has wiped us out of the game I'm afraid....
It will be UK in the M/H for the forseeable future.....

Um, where and when have I ever said, or even hinted that we weren't enjoying caravanning or finding it uncomfortable?
I really don't understand the point you're making in that post David. Is it just an attempt at point scoring? I thought we'd moved beyond that.
We like travelling abroad and choose to fly and stay hotels when we do so.
But we also love touring the UK and would never want to denigrate it in the way you often seem to, possibly unintentionally, so often.

m, i guess it was this that caught ADs eye, as it did mine...
"But when we go to Europe we fly and stay in hotels, we like our holiday comforts!"
...which i thought was an attempt at point scoring
not really, but you see how it reads?.....ie, those who caravan in europe cant have them......?
never been to a campsite with spa and hot tub....?

+1, that's my way of touring Europe too. Never done the LV thing, never will. It suits a lot of folk I get that, but not all of us.

I'm not sure quite how you construe that as point scoring, BB, since David has also said often that they enjoy hotel holidays - they're off to Cuba in December.
"Holiday comforts" come in all forms, don't they? And no, we've never stayed at a campsite with a spa or hot tub and aren't likely to. Is that something you consider a plus on a site?
Each to their own, eh?
Slow day "over there" today is it?

Well some of us are over here, currently in Quimper. Heading further South tomorrow, some rain today after 2 lovely days.
BB, if you are moving on Tuesday looks like we will miss you on RE. Might catch up with you though further down the coast, we've had our rest now so let the holiday begin
We prefer coming to Europe in the van rather than hotels but as others said each to their own. Longer distance hols are usually hotels, cruises or apartments.
AD, I'm sure you are enjoying yourselves despite the lack of Brits Lots of Germans on this site in slidyvans (PVC)

I wonder what the point of the OP was if not to initiate yet another here v there discussion.

Since we reached a certain age and long distances driving have become more of a chore ,when we go "over there" we now let some one else do the driving ,and in a lot of circumstances for us it works out quite cheap for what we want to do

David, if you go back and check my original reply to you, you'll spot a winking smiley at the end. It was intended purely as a lighthearted response, although I guess quoting your UK "camping experience" comment was a bit cheeky.
How the thread developed from there is entirely down to the motivation of individual posters, some of whom seem to revel in interjecting into otherwise completely innocent exchanges.
Enjoy the rest of your time in Slovenia and eventually when you get to Croatia which I believe is where you're heading.

TG, no worries, glad youre having a good time and that youve got youreselves rested....
we'll probably be shooting on down to the Royan area on Tuesday for a few days, prior to a few days going slowly along the Dordogne till we reach our OC meet site.
when that finishes, we will have to decide on SE to our original 'destination' nr St Tropez or to cut SW and to Spain.
we have pals who have set course for spain now, so might head that way depending on the weather.....we want to be in the sun till we have to turn back north....decisions..
keep in touch, always happy to 'turn the wheel' in the appropriate direction for a 'verre de vin'......take care...
BTW....Moulesy, a 'slow day'....on the Île de Ré......???
you're joking.......they're ALL slow out here, dear boy.....
though we did shake ourselves and cycle out to the 'Phare', the long way via Les Portes en Ré.....back for a coffee now.....

We went to the Baltic at Easter and after leaving Utrecht we never saw another Brit registered outfit until our return just outside HofH, that of course doesn't mean others weren't around!
Shouldn't this be in the 'pointless thread' in General Chat
