Sky Q
Has anyone taken their Sky Q box into Europe please and if so does it work?

Interesting to see the replies to this. I have so far refrained from moving from Sky+ until I know the answer to this. As Q needs a different LNB it won't work even in the UK unless you upgrade yyour LNB on your caravan dish.
Bet you can't get an answer from Sky!!

Been researching this, and I am pretty certain the answer is no. Sky q requires:
1. A broadband internet connection. The box frequently checks in with the sky servers, and if it misses check in, sky block the viewing card. Lots about this from caravanners on other forums. If it checks in from a non uk IP address, the card would immedietely be blocked.
2. Q requires a "wide band" lnb, which are unobtainable at the moment other than from a sky engineer.
3. Q will not operate in single feed mode, so you need a twin cable feed - least of the problems.
I will not upgrade from +HD until forced to do so by Sky. At the moment they continue to support +HD, but for how long?

Can you use Sky Q in your caravan in the U.K. If you get the correct LNB (obviously without the on demand stuff).? We use Sky+ HD at the moment with the twin cable, and we are moving house so Sky are trying to upgrade us to Sky Q, but we have to be able to use it in the caravan, for my husband to watch the footy.
is anyone out there using Sky Q in their caravan successfully please?
Thanks

Its a bit technical, not sure I fully understand how it actually works but the problem appears to be the sky Q box will not operate the band and polaristion changes that the standard universal LNB makes. Unless you can fit a Sky Q LNB into your mobile dish and all the necessary downleads to the Q box it sounds as though it will not work. It might be easier to do this with a free standing dish?

not specifically skyQ but may be related to some of the questions related to taking boxes/cards away....
i have just had a 'run in' with Sky over, what might be, 'regular' re-pairing of the viewing card
I used to take my main box (sky+HD) with me when away (here and abroad) but decided to permanently install my second box (also Sky+HD) in the van and swap cards...
with my van on the drive and an internet connection available, re-pairing the card is easy to do prior to leaving home and then repeat the process when i get home with the main box.
i have been doing this for a few years without issue.
a few weeks ago, i cam home and the card would not pair with my main box. so i rang sky and someone helpful did the pairing for me.
i checked all my channels and all was ok.
a while later, i realised that i couldnt download a movie, so did a bit more testing and found that, while bbc/itv/ch4 programs could be downloaded, movies, sports etc and (cruicially for clue purposes) ch5 could not.
this leads withput any doubt to a 'permissions' issue, as ch5 (despite being free) needs 'permission' within the card.
in addition, my sky go account wasnt working properly...
a very, very long debate ensued with sky insisting that my account was intact and working (i checked the card again in my 2nd box and all was working....very strange) and that the issue was the box itself and an engineer visit was necessary....
i disagreed, but had little choice...
engineer arrived, listened to the story, said it was a permissions issue.
he rang a 'special number' and got on to someone sensible who revealed there was a 'flag' (user breach) against the account...
they didnt wait to 'resolve' this issue, merely changed the box (now all working) and told me to investigate with sky next day.
i spent agaes (again) going over this and, while no one could/would tell me what the 'transgression' was that caused the account to be flagged, they asked me about re-pairing the viewing card and that this was, almost certainly, the cause.
i asked them why i could move the card between boxes in my own home (i wont pay for multiroom) and they wouldnt say what 'excessive' pairings amounted to.
i pressed for an answer....once, twice, 20 times a year, but they wouldnt say.
so, i paid for a visit i didnt want, i have a new box i didnt need, and i have had no sensible answer about why the account got flagged and whether it would happen again.
so, as i said, not directly SkyQ related, but it may be that they are trying to crack down on moving viewing cards around.
i certainly wont move to sky Q untill i get a bit more info on this issue.

You may remember I went through all this last year. We have very good Freeview here and don't use Sky anymore, although we do still have a Sky+ box with a 'freeview' card which we don't pay for as it was changed to that 20+ years ago before they started charging.
We looked at changing to Sky Q but were not convinced that we would be able to take it away, they wouldn't allow us to change our card for the Sky+ box to a package but insisted that we would HAVE to change to Sky Q. Needless to say we refused, so we kept our money they lost business and we sorted out TV abroad another way

We have an 85cm Oyster 3, twin LNB Autoskew dish on the m/h, in the van we have a Cello tv that has built in freesat. with that we are able to view UK tv channels in France even down to the South of France.
Once out of the range of UK channels on Astra 2, we can move to Intel Sat 907 as this is tuned in on the Oyster 3 model, you need an Encryption box for it but they are only about £60, with this setup you can still receive UK channels (BBC1 and 2, Itv, channel 4 and 5, + a few others) all the way down to Portugal and Southern Spain.

No, Sky Q card is different and does not work with a Sky plus box.
Sky are well aware that folk do take the boxes away from home so are doing everything they can to stop it.
I personally think this is despicable as you pay monthly for the box and any package so why shouldn't you use them while away. With some folk touring for half of the year if you don't/can't take the box with you what a waste of money.

Please clarify. Can I remove the viewing card from my Sky Q box and take it to my holiday home abroad and insert it in, and pair it to my Sky plus HD box and I will receive all the channels that I subscribe to ( movies, sport etc ) in UK ?.
I assume that i would only be able to watch one channel and record one channel at a time but that would be ok.Yes. You can do it via MySky, or if your Sky+HD box is connected it will pair automatically when you select a pay channel and follow the prompts.
Just been away for a month using my Sky Q card in a Sky+HD box. Automatically paired back to Sky Q on return."

Interesting! we were told that the Q card is a different size so would not fit the Sky+ box.
As I said Sky are trying very hard to stop folk from doing it.
When you go over to SkyQ we were also told that if you had Multi room boxes they are removed and new boxes fitted because SkyQ work through the internet. Sounds as if you get a different story depending on who you speak to at Sky.

Hi sorry been away for a few days and just seen this.
Intelsat 907, you can get an 'Icecrypt' box off the Internet or Maplins varying prices ours cost just under £60 off line.
If your satellite dish hasn't already got Intel 907 installed then you will have to select an empty/unused satellite (ie Hotbird) uninstall it then install 'Intelsat 907'
Once you have your Encryption box you will then need to set that up (instructions of how to do this is online) BB's link will give you all the info you will need.
According to the instructions you can use your Sky card in the encryption box, we don't have one so cannot verify this. This I assume will only work if you tune into Astra 2 using the 'Icecrypt box' (not Intelsat 907)
Hope this helps.
