It says check in 30 minutes before sailing. So yes, 06:00 departure would be better. So 15 minutes more sleep!

We've joined English Heritage membership today by applying online through direct debit. It cost £81 for the whole year for the two of us and we get 3 months extra for free.

On our trip to the Isle of Wight, we plan to visit Osborne House, Queen Victoria's home, which is now an English Heritage property. So we'll now get free entry instead of having to pay £16.50 each.

I'd have loved to see him sign off with a win, but it was characteristic of the man that he took the result with his usual good grace. His place in the sport's history is secure.

If he was to have been beaten I'd have liked Christan Chamberlain to have been the man to have done it.

I have only contempt for Justin Gatlin who  has been banned, not once but twice, for doping offences and should never have been allowed to compete in the first place.

Still those of us who follow the sport must accept the rules as they are, I suppose - the spirit of Ben Johnson hasn't been entirely erased it seems! yell

We're off soon for Sunday lunch with Dad to celebrate upcoming 91st birthday ( his not mine!). It's not till next month but it's so hard to get everone together these days.

Then off to a New Forest CL tomorrow for a week. Don't think there's WiFi there, so expect a period of enforced silence! wink

Thanks trellis. You're right, it is English Heritage. I just found it on the website. It's near Newport, Isle of Wight and open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

So we can do both properties during the day as well as some of the NT countryside places that are open until dusk, later in the day.

I think the English Heritage membership will also open up opportunities for days out along the south coast during the rest of the summer. Pevensey Castle looks worth a visit and there's Dover Castle too. There's also Bramber Castle and Boxgrove Priory, 6 miles and 14 miles from here. I found all these listed on their website.

We have temporary membership cards which they sent me by email this morning. They are sending out to me new membership cards, a handbook and quarterly magazine. These, they say, will arrive in 10 days time.

Moved further North today and now set up at the club site at Morvich.  Weather was good on the journey so we enjoyed the stunning views at every turn.  It's 32 years since we were up here so it's interesting to see the changes, some of which seem a little retrograde.  Paid a brief visit to the Glenelg Brochs before the rain came down. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us tomorrow.

Enjoyed a lovely day out at The Sherborne Estate, home of "Springwatch" this year. Walked from the car park through the estate to the village, following the Sherborne Brook. Stopped at the little shop and tea room in the village before walking back to the car park. Lovely sunshine,  lots of wildlife especially along the Brook,  loved watching the herons. Stayed for a picnic before heading home, taking in some of the cotswold villages, where I'd live if I ever won the lottery! laughing

Burford was very busy, as normal,  but stopped in Chippy for a while, treated myself to some pasta bowls that I'd seen and didn't buy last time I was there.

Glenelg had a lovely beach area (as you drive toward the ferry) there are now 2 lots of in the main tatty caravans and MHs, the first seems to be a diving school the second looks to be folk wild camping.

That does not sound good, pity to spoil a lovely area.  While since we were last  there, thinking to go up that way next year.

Today started sunny, but rain off and on from late morning.  Working on fitting new aerial to DD's car, some kind person vandalised it a while back.

Drawer  kits to make new drawers for below the oven arriving on Tuesday, so time to start planning how to make those.

Also need to order a plinth heater as we will be removing the radiator in the dining area to fit extra units.

Have not used a plinth heater before so slightly worried as to whether it will produce sufficient heat.

We've just arrived at the Isle of Wight Ferry terminal. We're very early so I think we'll have a long wait. It's only ten past seven and we're booked for 08:50. I wonder if there's any chance of getting an earlier sailing?

We left at 06:00 a.m. as planned so the whole journey took just over an hour. There was hardly any traffic all the way.

I fitted a 2Kw plinth heater in my kitchen a couple of years ago. There was only a very small radiator in the room due to lack of wall space and it wasn’t effective. I got a plinth heater that connected to the wet central heating system to keep running costs down. It was very easy to fit and heats the kitchen up very quickly although there is a slight noise from the fan when its running, but as it’s in a kitchen its not really a problem. I also fitted an additional thermostat in the kitchen to control the plinth heater. I wish I’d fitted it years ago.

We were let on to an earlier ferry which left at 8 a.m. and arrived at Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight at 08:45. We headed for Osborne House. We had some difficulty finding it, the google map led us astray. Eventually we found a brown road sign and followed that. We are now in the grounds of the property. As we arrived early, there was plenty of space in the car park. The grounds look lovely! Huge variety of plants and trees.

The House opens at 10:00 a.m. so I've got 15 minutes to catch up with posting on here before we can get in!

We enjoyed the ferry crossing. The weather is a bit dull and overcast but at least it's not raining. So it was nice and cool on the sun deck of the ferry. Lovely views of Portsmouth Harbour from the rear of the sun deck.

There are now more and more people gathering in the wait to get in. Only a few more minutes before opening time.

We spent a couple of hours in the gardens of NT Tyntesfield House yesterday. Last time we "did" the house and this time we squeezed in a walk down to the kitchen gardens, I had the wrong shoes on after visiting family in Bristol earlier so it was quite a leg aching sprint down to this area of the estate. We grabbed a sandwich in the Pavillion cafe (the main cafe near the entrance was very busy.) Then had a stroll round the flower bedecked courtyards and glasshouses. There was plenty to see, the smell of ripening peaches was lovely, very tempting, but I resisted. wink

Thanks for the info, It sounds like it will be OK.  The present radiator is a big double one as it is a large kitchen/diner,  so I will need to bring the pipework fron either end into the centre of the units before attaching the supplied flexible connectors, it is the Smith's SS9 we will be getting.

Thinking about a thermostat, we have all TRVs in the house, the present position of the kitchen one will still be well outside the end of the run of new units, so I am thinking I might just leave it there to control the flow to the plinth heater, rather than fitting a new room stat.

If it does not work well enough, I can always fit a room stat later.

Noise was my other worry, so as you say it is slight, I am reassured.

Did you fit yours so it sits on the floor, or is it central in the height of the plinth?

Lots of really heavy showers today, though it was very sunny first thing.  More water cascading off the roof, this time at the front, we seem to have a leaking joint plus a possible blockage , so I will have to get that ladder out soon!

We have been doing some detailed planning for the additional kitchen  units,  and working out whether the worktop will still  fit for the ones that are to be relocated.  Looks like it will still be long enough, just one end to round off.

We made a scoop purchase of 3 solid beech worktops at Ikea a few years back, only £10 each, so one of those will be used over the new units.  They are only 1.8 metres long, so not long enough to be used over the  2 metres of relocated units.

They were under the bed, so I have wrestled one out, which meant moving a lot of other stuff, so OH gave me the vacuum cleaner to give everything a good dust off!

Some relocation of sockets will also be needed, so plenty to keep me occupied after our September trip.
