Summer weather here again today after 5 days of miserable cold, grey and wet.
Been busy as usual, first more undercoating of skirting boards then gardening while doing 3 loads of washing. Bed stripped, still got to remake it.
OH spent the morning sitting on top of the motorhome cleaning the roof, thankfully that's the last of the tar removed from the van. Polishing has to wait for a cooler day. While he had the hose out he washed both cars again.
Artyboo, well done on the DIY, I'm a bit of a dab hand myself at all sorts of jobs around the house, needs must when hubby used to be away for 6 mths at a time.
MillieH, so sorry to hear of your sad news, such a young age.
H&T, glad you had a lovely chilled weekend.
Bakers2, it makes a change to hear you putting heating on, I'm still sat in shorts and a vest top,

Well since its only two ( 2 ) sleeps 'til I head sarf east-ish to Malvern & Cirencester, I'll bid you all a fond Farewell 'til at least the end of September.

For some reason I thought about Enos and Andrews Liver Salts used to be staples in our house. Remember adding some to orange squash to make a fizzy drink. Wasn't pleasant.
Can add a post now as the site now appears to be going full steam ahead. Well what passes for that here 😉.

Very rare though not unknown, for there to be leasehold property up here, but with flats there are various ways of doing things.
With ex council flats, there will mainly still be some council tenants, so the council will retain the management of the building, which generally does lead to somewhat inflated bills.
With newer privately owned blocks, the builders will appoint a factor to manage the block, and residents pay direct, often monthly, but big bills will still be over and above. After usually something like 3 to 5 years, if a majority of the owners are dissatisfied with the factor, they can appoint a different factor.
With older tenament style flats there is usually a mix.....some are self managed by the owners, others will have appointed a factor to manage things for them. Lenders usually prefer there to be a factor in place.
The meeting went reasonably well, 6 owners out of 14 attended, another 2 sent apologies but agreed the work must go ahead. 6 owners have not responded, strangely, 3 of those do still live in the building!
All is not doom and gloom, apparently the city council have a fund to assist with this sort of thing, so an application for a grant will be made. As the building is in a Conservation Area and had to be built in the same style as the original 1870s properties adjoining, there is a reasonable chance of success.
The problem now will be to get the missng 6 owners to pay up so the repairs can be authorised. The work is essential, so the only other option is for the other owners to pay more and put a charge against the properties of any owners who do not eventually pay.
Hopefully it will not come to that.
At the moment all the flats are unsaleable due to the impending work, 3 sales have already fallen through in the last year.

TaffyY, It would be an even more insecure future to live in a property I couldn't afford. If you can't pay they take it away. That's why my wife prefers the present position. She feels more peace of mind when our expenses are less than our income.

We've got up to a lovely, sunny morning of clear blue skies, cool and comfortable. We've just had breakfast and I'm now in the relaxer in the awning with a cup of tea as I type this.
We plan to visit Brighton later this morning using the Smart car but first we'll need to make a trip to Tesco Extra to fill up fuel.
I've got £25 worth of Tesco vouchers coming to me at the end of this month. This could pay for a ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight using the Smart car for one of my days off from work.

Another low grey morning with the thermometer still at 14.5c. The wind seems to have ceased so it feels marginally warmer - don't need the fire on yet apart from the cheer it gives!
KjellNN that's reasonable news let's hope it all gets sorted smoothly and asap. It's amazing how some bury their heads in the sand regarding their responsiblities, at least there's an option to put a charge against the properties concerned but it adds to costs to do so not to mention coughing up their initial share.
No plans for the day as yet looking for inspiration.

We're just preparing a picnic lunch to take with us for our day out. After re-fuelling the Smart car, we plan to take the coastal road to Brighton and from there we plan to go on to the NT Nymans House and Gardens.

Well, the inner glass door on the oven exploded on Sunday, all over the roast lunch I was cooking. I tried all yesterday to source a replacement without success.
Looks like a trip to John Lewis for a new oven.
Expensive meal.

Have been to the dentist twice, couldn't get the check up and clean together. Cleared the decks for the piano tuner who has just left to tune the local hospice piano. And now the vets for one of the dogs. It's very warm here so can sit outside with the washing drying!

Started of very cloudy here not cold but cooler than yesterday. Started polishing the m/h but then I noticed areas still have tar speckles
I think OH must have got fed up with the removing of it. Anyway all done now, will get back to polishing it when OH gets back from taking Mum up to the hospital for her new hearing aid. I've been on hands and knees again undercoating skirting boards. No I'm not a slow painter its just that I can't get access to them because of heavy Oak furniture, so require OH to move said furniture then I can do another bit, slowly slowly wins the race. House looks like a right tip at the moment what with walls stripped of paper, woodwork half painted, all ornaments removed and cleaned now sat on trays. OH has removed 2 doors so that I can get better access to the frames, so they are sat leaning against furniture. Just had a phone call to say they want to come next Tuesday to fit our new back porch
I'm going to be ready for my next holiday at this rate.1 -
Misty and low cloud in Hawes first thing. However market day, so walked in to buy some fresh fish for the next two days and replenish our fruit / veg. Soon started brightening up and have just arrived back from a lovely walk up Gayle Beck to Aysgill Force. This one is a freebe 😀. Not as much water about today but still fairly spectacular. As we had burnt a few calories we shared a piece of very nice rocky road, also from the market, with our coffee.

Cloudy but warm at the B/yd today.Just shifting boats around for better access etc .Went to the 'storage ' to tidy up the M/home after the week-end break.Allways something you forget or leave on board !!.0

I'm very envious of you being up there at the moment, one of our favourite parts of the country; we used to live near Bingley so it was a regular day trip out for us then. Hope the sun keeps shining for you!

We've had the dog groomer here this afternoon giving Lady a quick wash and brush up! She just lies there and lets her get on with it.
Harry, who's never been keen and wasn't really handled or groomed at all before we rescued him, stays well out of the way in the garden until he hears her car driving away!

OH's birthday to day. We went out for a nice meal. Also have a Thornton's Chocolate cake for tea
that and a coffee will suffice I reckon. When I bought the cake at the local Asda (about £10?) I could get two for an extra £1 and so took that to our neighbours as a present earlier this morning. Seemed well pleased.1 -
Happy birthday to your OH EasyT. Nice jesture on the cake front, but rather ridiculous really, encourages overindulgence!
Low grey cloud cleared to higher cloud generally wherever the sun is - all the blue either side. Nice 7 mile walk with holiday dog though local parks making a circular tour with a stop for scone and cuppa halfway. Now managing some sitting in the garden after a good potter in it. Much warmer than yesterday despite the cloud as no wind just occasional breeze 😆.

Our local Homebase has been converted to a Bunnings store so went to have a look this afternoon. Quite an Aladdin's Cave. Didn't think it was any cheaper and they have certainly got the size of customer catering wrong, far too small!!!

Yep did seem a daft offer really. Could not pass up a £10 cake for £1 to treat my neighbour though. When we are away he lets the guys in to mow the lawn for us as they also do his on same visit and same with the window cleaner. I square up with him when we are back home as he also pays them.
order stuff online for him and find items that he is looking for and a good price so we help each other.

Bunnings is a store we're familiar with when we're DIYing in NZ. Pretty good range of things, not tried their catering, but very customer orientated. The other big name over there is Mitre 10 similar colours to B&Q. Both aussie owned I believe. I think our Homebase is to be one of the last to change, they certainly seem to have lots of clearance stuff in the Homebase name - I presume they move it around as they change the name in other locations. I also understand they like to not rent their premises thus they know their overheads 😉. This is proving challenging here.
