What are you all up to

Dull and grey at Hawes at the moment, although my BBC app shows it should brighten up shortly. Very windy at times last night, although where we are pitched was well protected by mature trees. Off for a walk on the hillside to the north of the site today, one we have done many times before. It loops round to come back via Hardraw, where there is the possibility of a side trip to the Green Dragon 😀. The site has only just opened after refurbishment. This seems mainly to have involved more water points, new style MH disposal, hardstanding refresh and totally gutting the toilet block and replacing with all new and shiny. We have not been to this site for a few years so am a little vague on details, but they seem to have also removed a lot of shrubs / hedges making it more open, which I do not like. We opted for a service pitch, these are nicely spaced in a circle in there own area at the top of the site. Almost like a small 10 unit site. It has its own CDP and waste bins in the centre, so very self contained. Also as we have just had our sat dome fixed, I was pleased to see there were several pitches available where we could get a signal.

Heavy shower at present so holiday dog walk on hold 😉. Got to walk to post office and get passport photos so hope it doesn't last as the drowned rat look isn't flattering and to have it for 10 years 😲😲. Will pick up paper applications too and decide which way to apply. Have to return existing passport so doesn't save postage. Trouble is can't follow online application through without completing each stage!
Enjoy your day folks whatever the weather or you do.

Oh dear Bakers2 I have to renew my passport soon and it all seems to get more complicated (and expensive) each time. Thank you for your kind words. She was only 48 - it is just so shocking and unexpected to happen to someone so young.

So sorry to hear your news, millie - just brings home how important it is to make the most of every day - you never do know what's around the corner.
As for renewing your passport - we've had to do both of ours recently - do it on line - it really is easy once you've had a photo approved. Just get Mr H to take one of you against a light background - it'll automatically be cropped when you submit it and then you'll get texts every couple of days telling you how your application is progressing. Mind you, you have to get the photo accepted first - Mrs M took a couple of me and the second one got OK'd immediately but I had to take about 20 of her before we got one accepted - again, you'll know because you get an instant message telling you if it's been accepted or not.

After yesterdays day out and the inclement weather, we plan to stay on site today. Feeling too tired to do anything anyway. Maybe just a day to chill! So it will be a cooked lunch in the caravan today.
At the moment, I'm sitting in the awning in the relaxer whilst typing this. The rain seems to have stopped but it seems quite windy. The tree leaves are blowing about but not so much the awning because of being sheltered by the trees. Just the noise of the wind rustling the tree leaves. The sun has just poked through a gap in the clouds.
Is everyone on here happy that their gardens have had plenty of watering from the rain?

Yes a good watering MM, but it has battered a few blooms beyond saving as well sadly. Hope you get to Nymans at some point, on my list of gardens to visit.

I've let my passport lapse now that there is no danger of my having to show it as I head up to Altnahara etcetera !
That apart, I'm checking over the "Loading List" that I used last month to see if I can/ought to reduce the contents of the motor or even if there is yet room for the stuff I remembered I would need, but left in a pile at home .
Sorry to hear your Bad News, Millieh,

Thanks moulesy. I will be brave and do it online. (Does that mean Mrs M is a better photographer than you? - I'll get my coat )

When I last did Passport photos I edited them and inserted into a Word document so I could resize to exactly to what was required by the Passport Office. Fortunately never had any rejected. They are also easier to print. As for taking the photos, thank goodness for magnolia walls!!!!

Got our passport photos done in local newsagent/post office, all photos cut into the individual ones 😆. Great service. But had to walk to the main post office for passport forms. Had decided on this method since your existing passport must be returned so got to pay postage any way.
Don't know when those who've quoted cropping their photos applied but now the photo has to be most of the body too, there is an example but I really only cottoned on when talking to our photographer this morning 😉. No cropping is allowed. They sort that. I freely admit that I didn't try taking a photo as I couldn't be bothered and current passport had to be returned so threw in the towel early 😂. I like the idea of progress reports. I'll read and complete ours later today and update you on ease later.
Grey overcast and windy with the threat of rain just 14.9c 😲😲. Not inspiring at all. Personally speaking I and my garden have had enough now and would like summer to return!

Could well be, although I told her that someone at the passport office didn't like the look of her face!!!
Seriously though, we couldn't see much difference between the ones that were rejected and the one they finally accepted - but you do get reasons for each rejection, so it was worth persevering. In the end it only took about a week from having the photo accepted to her new passport arriving in the post.

Such a young age. I lost an uncle at the same age. My memories of him, once over the shock, are always happy ones - last time I saw him we were all playing cricket at the seaside. So different from some other family members including my father who I watched go downhill year after year and a beloved grandparent hanging on after a stroke. Those last days of life memories took years to shift to as an instant recall memory.

Back from our walk, weather gradually improved throughout. Now lovely and warm and sunny. We had lunch on the hillside high above Wensleydale and then descended past the cairns made from spoil heap debris, passed the Hotel where Clarkson ended his Top Gear career, to Hardraw. As they have had plenty of rain locally over the last few days, we decide to take a diversion to the Force, it was as you can see spectacular. The highest single drop in England. I have also tried to take a picture of the service pitch enclave. Very difficult to fit it in, but it is isolated from the rest of the site and very well spaced.

I did much the same at a PO. Trouble started when I had to take my glasses off. I could hardly see a thing! Which is why I now have a passport photo with a slightly enigmatic smile (it has a what do I press next look.) It was accepted and I could use it to transfer to my new photo driving licence recently. Would definitely use a cropped computer version in future!

Lovely day here today, warm and sunny. Just about to go out to attend a meeting later with DD. She has kept her little flat in Glasgow and now rents it out, but some BIG repairs are needed, so an owners' meeting is being held this evening. Going to be expensive, so very bad news.
Seems to be mostly down to shoddy work in the original build 17 years back, the pictures of the problems, mainly on the roof, are quite shocking.

Have today introduced our new family member to the joys of our lifestyle,we have booked into a local cc site and tomorrow move to another cc site to see how she likes looking at a big white box behind the car,
When arriving one of the site staff was having to "advise"the driver of a motor caravan to close his waste outlet as it was pouring across the road,he said it is getting to be more of a problem as the amount of motor caravans have increased ,and they cannot be bothered to use the m/van service point

Nice photos, SteveL and the weather looks better there than here at the moment!

They're nor cc sites anymore, JVB66 but camc. Would that perhaps account for the increase?

Does the rent cover the cost of the repairs?

Arrived home this morning after a relaxing weekend on a local CL, doing nothing! Just what was needed after a very stressful week. Going to catch up with what everyone has been up to now!
