Recomendations of sites in Andalusia
Hi All
I've just bought a motorhome and new to touring.
I'm looking at recommendations for good sites in the Andalusia area of Spain, close to either Seville or Granada that will accommodate a large motorhome ( 9 meters long, tri axle ). Looking at going from the end of September for a couple of weeks.
Any recommendations or advice greatly appreciated.
Regards
Mick

all i would say Micky, is that two weeks is a tiny amount of time for a MH trip to Southern Spain.
i went down in the spring and, after crossing to Cherbourg, had stops at Nantes (4 hrs drive), Irun (7 hrs) and then across spain to Benicassim (7 hrs) nr Valencia.
from there, its another days drive (8 hrs) to Seville.
add in the same to get back to port (for you, Calais?) and thats 8 of your 14 days gone and you havent even begun to explore Andalucia at all....
for two weeks in southern spain, id be flying....especially when you factor in the cost of the driving.....for us it was spread over a nine week tour, so not so bad....
i cant give any specific recommendations on sites, but just have a think about the size of the trip

Hi BoleroBoy
Thanks for your advice.
I'll be going out on the Brittany Ferries', Portsmouth to Caen route and probably return that way as well.
There will be 2 of us sharing the driving, so it shouldn't be to much of a problem.
For Seville I was thinking of going Irun, Burgos and Salamanca, or to Granada it would be from Burgos, Madrid and down.
It's the last chance for a holiday this year, other than long weekends, so fancy having a run in the new toy.
As much as I would like to do a 9 week tour, I don't think our employers would be to pleased, but perhaps a possibility in the years to come.

Hi
Does it have to be a campsite because in Seville there are at least three really good aires with one on the river with an easy walk into town, have stopped in two of them and both excellent and have stopped on the campsite south of the city at Dos Hermanos called Vilsom which needs a bus to get into town and did stay here with a 7.5 metre van so you should be ok here. Granada could be difficult because most campsites here are old sites so pitches small and on side of a hill, I live here in Spain and my neighbour who has a motorhome says he stays in a aire in Granada which is underground and you can stay the night there believe it or not with electricity. If you look all these up on Camping car in will give you the co-ordinated. Phil

Hi Phil
Thanks for your advice, especially on Granada. We have been looking into Vilsom, seems to be a mix of reviews on length of motorhomes that will fit in there, but will also have a look for the aires in Seville.

according to googlemaps, Ouistreham to Irun is 8 hrs and that is averaging over 100kph, which is not possible (legally) in your unit (obviously over 3.5t).....i would estimate 9-9.5 hrs flat out, no pee breaks, anything.
then you must add in the trip to Portsmouth from Kent (need to leave at around 5 am latest to get at the port for 7 am) the waiting time at port, the 5 hour crossing, putting the time forward an hour.....and then start driving after the fery gets in at 15:00.
so, you would make Irun at around 1 in the morning...so, 20 hrs solid travelling.
the following day, Irun to Seville is at least another hour longer, so 10-11 hours, on the back of a very long stint, the day before. no rest for the wicked (or sufficiently determined)....
Yes, doable with two drivers in two days (plus, of course, two days back).
heading home, the ferry leaves Ouistreham at 14:00, so need to aim to be at the port around 13:00 to allow for even any tiny delay.
this means leaving Irun at around 2 am the night before (just when you could do with a good nights sleep after an 11 hour stint up from the Sevill area......
hopefully a nice rest on the ferry to get you prepared for the mayhem which is the M27/A27 or M3/M23 etc for the couple of hours (hopefully) back home at around 10 at night....
and then work in the morning, no doubt, or thats another day to factor in..
yes, this is all a bit tongue in cheek and leg pulling, but i put in in black and white as its so easy to be blazé about driving distances.
two drivers or not, all aboard will know they've been on the go for a good long time, similarly on the way home.
on the positive side, the roads are great, youll hardly see any other traffic AND YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME
ENJOY!
