Sounds more like a driving marathon than a holiday Couldn't you have just come back via derbyshire?

Up very early this morning, forecast was for another hot day, so the plan was to shampoo our lounge carpet. Got it all done, weather however not what we were promised! Had some rain and very windy, warm enough though so that carpet is almost dry and furniture all ready to go back in. It looks so much cleaner
Brue: your journey home was certainly eventfull, hope the repairs required aren't too big.
Must get on, furniture to move, Enjoy the BH weekend everyone.

Don't want to rain on your parade Malcom but Morvich to Dunnet Bay is a long old drive. We've done Culloden to DB in the motorhome and its tiring. DB is worth more than two night, could you not leave it for next time when you might add Orkney to your trip!!!

I did Morvich to Dunnet a few years back. Only took until mid afternoon after a prompt but not excessively early start. 190 miles and that was being held up by some Nissan Micra dawdling up the side of Loch Ness. My caravan is a bit smaller than Malcolms though.

For me, the distance between sites would not be an issue, it is the shortness of stay and the frequent moving on after only a couple of nights that is proposed.
No time for proper exploring and sightseeing. Why go all that way and stay such a short time?
We are much closer to the area and for us a 3 week break would be too short to get a proper feel for the area.
We used to do these "whirlwind tours" when I was still working and always felt afterwards that we had tried to do too much, not done justice to the area, and I needed a rest afterwards!!

Sounds good Steve, hope you enjoyed the food and wine, a nice relaxing end to your trip.
We've been catching up on things at home today. After our meeting with the lorry tyre on the M6 yesterday OH has managed to repair the damage to the van, we have a good van shop near us for various bits and bobs plus a trip out to another place to fix the exhaust securely back in place. Took some elbow grease to get the black tyre marks and scratches off the bodywork.
edit, thanks Ian, all sorted we hope.

Malcolm - another great wind up post!
Of course no-one would travel all the way up to Scotland and then do a 700 mile return trip (returning to where they had just travelled past) to get their caravan air-con repaired.......for a holiday in Scotland!
Also loved your description of your 'tour'......where you spend all your time driving and never actually having a holiday
Thank goodness you wouldn't really put yourself and you wife through all that

We re-fitted the wings on our aircraft today, after its annual inspection.
Also did a few other jobs on it.
We had a couple of thunder storms with torrential rain, but we were safe in our hanger.
It was sweltering hot, but got most things done. We just need final sign off during the week, so should soon be back in the air.......just in time before our next trip away

Good post, Ian. It took a while but you got there. 👏🏻

Sorry Ian. I hadn't thought that through properly

Another hot day here again but with more of a breeze. Heavy shower with rumbles of thunder about 10am which soon cleared. Spent a pleasant day at mums. Bit of pottering, hubby cut her grass and tidied some plants, I had help with knitting as I was having a bit of trouble with the instructions 😲. She helped me then I finished the knitting of a jumper, she stitched the buttons on the Cardigan she'd just finished. Once mines stitched they'll be ready to post of to NZ with granddaughters first birthday cards - where has that almost year gone?
Son had brilliant day at Wentworth but tired from the heat once he was home from a long day. He's playing golf himself tomorrow then we'll have dinner about 4pm before he heads home.

I understand what you say, KJellNN but I had to take holiday from work to fit in the National and Scotland total 4 weeks. Even that much time off was pushing it to the limit with my new employer! It's just unfortunate that the aircon needs fixing thereby disrupting things but nevertheless we'll still get a chance to visit and spend at least one whole day for visiting each area.

Same as us Ian, we turn the thermostat off (ours is near the van door) and put the fan on, using different speeds to vary the output. We only have two vents, one in the sitting area and one in the washroom but it helps circulate the air.

Malcolm taking more than 2 weeks leave in any employment is difficult. I had very understanding get employers and colleagues when I worked and wanted extended leave in NZ. I was able to take unpaid leave too. Since you have only started with this employer I would expect them to honour holidays booked prior to starting, I would also expect that they were informed at interview of such - it's usually a question at the interview. A business has to be able to function.
That said if you are determined to get your Aircon repaired at the dates they've given you I'd be rethinking my whole holiday destinations and work around that. It seems madness to travel hundreds of miles to a beautiful destination only to leave within 48 hours. Certainly not a restful of a way to explore this beautiful country of ours. Scotland is a wonderful destination that deserves proper attention. Why not have another rethink and perhaps not go so far north if you go at all? I certainly wouldn't be pleased to be offered several nights on motorway service stations as part of my holiday 😲😉

Another fabulous day here.
A tale to make you laugh. I removed the summer duvet from the airing cupboard along with a fresh duvet cover yesterday morning but didn't have time to assemble as out for the day. Just as I went to bed put said duvet into said cover. It felt thicker than I recall but had been 2 years since it had been out. Got into bed and realised it was the 13.5 tog 😲😲. Removed said duvet and slept under the empty cover as I couldn't go to the airing cupboard as son sound asleep in the room where it is. 😂😂😂😂. Not quite warm enough so plenty of stirring!
No prizes for one of my jobs today!

We leave the National on 31st and will be in Scotland until 7th before heading south to Derby. So that's a whole week in Scotland and three club sites namely, Garlieston, Craigie Gardens in Ayr and North Ledaig. That covers the south west. On returning 9th June to 19th June for the Highlands and north so that's 10 more days. I'm used to driving. After all, I do 4 hours a day for my job. This will be more enjoyable driving!

Sunny morning, feeling bit shattered after all the furniture moving and carpet cleaning yesterday, although carpet looks lovely and clean, but not sure for how long OH is helping neighbour out with battery problems with his motorhome, so having a catch up with CT. Have caught up with emails too this morning. Now just thinking about plans for today, what other jobs can I find to do.
Malcolm: It's a good job you enjoy driving, you will be doing plenty of it over the next few weeks. Have to agree with Bakers2, I certainly wouldn't be stopping overnight at services, there are lots of lovely CL's for overnight stops. They would be my choice.

Wow put like that it really focuses the mind. I could do a lot with that money 😉. Glad I'm not the only one to decline a night stopover on a service station, except in an emergency. Do you have to pay parking charge? I dislike a comfort/lunch break there unless there's no alternative!

We are away in the van at the moment. The weather has been very good so far we have been joined by my sister and her family they have recrntly got a puppy and this is her first time caravanning so far so good. Had a BBQ at sisters van on Friday night so think it will be our turn to entertain tonight lol. Hope everyone else is having a nice bank holiday weekend

Malcolm, yet again, you have decided that you know best and have chosen to ignore all the good advice that others have offered.
You may well enjoy driving around the streets of Worthing et al in your Smart car, driving a Shogun and TA caravan around some of the roads in Scotland is going to be a completely different experience!!
Have you even tried to re-arrange the date with Truma, bet not!
I believe everyone else uses their caravans / motorhomes as a leisure vehicle, your's is your home!
The whole thing fills me with dread just thinking about it but then, as some have said, it could all be a complete wind up
