How rural can you get in Austria
Just been watching the Campsite Sheep being sheared. How often would you see this sight? This Campsite also has its own Trout Pond. Prepared Trout can be had at reception as well as Eggs from the Site Chickens. Every Saturday the owner delivers an egg for each person to the vans on site. You could not wish for more at €15 euros per night with ACSI. Free Electric, Showers and full all over site Excellent WiFi. Weather good Hot, Sunny 28°

Looks lovely. I see that your trip takes you close to Salzburg. Is there a good site from where you can get public transport into the town? Having visited Salzburg last year (hotel and trains) my ambition is to return and go to the puppet theatre.

This is a good site to visit Salzburg. Regular bus service from outside the campsite into the centre of the City. A nice restaurant recommended by reception a few hundred metres away. Walking distance of a decent supermarket. It's not in ACSI but they gave us a discount which reduced the price to almost the same price. We first stayed there in 1992 but went back last year. If you are touring Austria my blog here might help with campsites all of which have easy access to public transport.

Camping Grubhof near Lofer is another superb site. There is a bus stop outside the gate for Salzburg but we took the car and used P&R. The site has the most amazing toilet block. Onsite restaurant very good too. A good day out is the Grossglockner toll road to the glacier. Memorable!

Look forward to meeting you. The problem is that the See roads are closed to motor traffic till 3 pm today. Wish I had read your post before KjellNN
This is a once a year thing when only walking, cycling, skates etc are allowed on the roads all around the See.

We stay at a lovely rural site at Pfarrwerfen hitchglitch there is local transport inc. trains. camping-vierthaler.at www.camping-vierthaler.at

Hitchglitch, we stayed at Camping Resort Allweglehen which was an excellent site with small pool, restaurant, spectacular views and probably my favourite showering facilities anywhere I've stayed.
There's a bus stop into Saltzburg, which takes around 20 mins, runs frequently and is right outside the site. The other bonus, if you drive (or take the bus) in the opposite direction to Salzburg, you end up in Berchtesgaden, which is definitely worth the 5/10 mins journey

Oh this is putting us in a quandry! Having decided NOT to go for our usual Germany/Austria/Italy holiday this year we have booked to go SW France on the fringes of the Pyranees and Spanish border.... This is seriously tempting us to change our bookings..... Does this site allow dogs? (Also intrigued by your website reference to an English owned caravan site in western Hungary, need to research how close that is to Lake Balaton). I look forward 6 years to having the time in retirement for such liesurely trips instead of cramming marathon journeys into 18 days or so.

flatcoat yes they do take dogs at Kalkgruber.it is a lovely site. It is filling up now 12 outfits. I suggest anyone wishing to visit here emails ahead to book. As it only has 33 pitches and the next door Campsite has closed down now it is likely to be full at times. Below is plan of Campsite.
I am not sure if the English owned Campsite in Hungary is near to Ballaton send them an email and ask.

Yes the site is very nice, though the EHUis only 6 amps, not the 10 amps given in the ACSI handbook, which is a little disappointing.
OH tripped it twice before we discovered!
As it is hot here, and we have plenty of gas, we can easily manage on 6 amps, but not so good if it is cold weather.

I tried to ask, but she did not seem to understand. A 10 amp outlet would certainly be preferable, if we can get one.
The trips where we are plugged in are marked as 6amps, as I noted when I went to look, I could not see a 10amp one.
I tried 3 different outlets when we arrived, and we had on the water heating which is 1000 watts and the fridge, and when we turned on the air con, which is about 900 watts on start up, it all went off, as OH had set our load monitor to the stated 10amps.
She has now set our load monitor to 6 amps, yet the breaker tripped again this morning, when we did not have more than 6 amps on, which is very strange. We had no problems on our Italian site which was also 6 amps.
Tha load monitor is a device on the Alde heater which monitors the total power being used in the van and cuts the power to the Alde if you try to use more than you set it to, so it should be OK to use up to the set amount on other devices .
