You might find something about this in the Overseas section. 👍🏻

The most recent discussion is at:

    https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-together/discussions/sites-touring/overseas-sites-touring/filmon-freetv-no-longer-free/

Summary (my version) for S. of France

Satellite: need a very large dish for any channels. Footprint of satellite with UK basic channels was altered a couple of years ago. Unlikely to get the basic channels at all. Possibly Sky but even that will need detailed research.

Any Internet based solution will be limited by (often poor) site bandwidth and sucking it up for video is unfair on others just needing basic communication/web access is (to me) unfair. It usually means no one gets a viable service?

i-Player is a no go due to it knowing your location is out of UK. A VPN MAY give you access if it's one that is not yet blocked.

Filmon was ideal (free for SD viewing) but has just gone subscription at £14 ish per month.

Val gives a couple of alternatives, which I haven't tried, in the link above.

Anyone with any better ideas could better contribute them on that thread so this one would become dead?

in simple terms, you will need an 85cm satellite dish (and receiver) to pick up BBC/ITV etc all over France. wewere in St Tropez last spring and had no problem there with the same sized roof mounted dish.

a smaller dish will cover a proportionately smaller area of France for the 'home' channels but even a small dish will be able to pick up Sky (incl Movies and Sports) if you are a subscriber and have a box/card with you as its on a wider 'euro' beam.

we were in St. Tropez last year with our caravan and portable 60cm oval dish. Managed to get some free view channels but not all. we were in Coulier/Bezier area the year before and got nothing. Not helpful I know but it depends on trees and things like that. I always take the satellite dish with me and give it a try wherever I am. i like to watch the news in the morning when I first get up.
