Me wearing Crocs!!!! Definitely Margaret probably in the shade or sheltering from the breeze. BTW its on the Municipal at Peronne in Northern France. Nice site and walking distance of the town, canal traffic just over the hedge.

ah, Brue, i though i might get some interesting guesses before revealing the answer.

ill give some clues but this should give it away....

this is a real photo, taken by me last wednesday, in Wiltshire, the only known current habitat for this species.

formerly extinct in the uk, but currently around 40 birds in one location. gradually numbers are coming back.

the largest flighted bird in the uk.

    now its easy peasy......wink

Interesting phenomena to me.  Had to use edge this am as Firefox ‘jerky/slow’ for whatever reason & I noticed that some avatars are small in the box with more grey showing.  Wondered if this was the same/normal for other members if anyone uses edge that is.  Am thinking of downloading Google Chrome to try if Firefox continues to be a problem.

I've never changed my avatar and was lucky that it wasn't lost when site was upgraded 😉. I seems to always see mine with roughly equal Gray all around it on my android phone, kindle Fire and laptop windows 10 and Firefox.  With those of you that had changed your avatars such as Brue and N1805 I see a full width image reaching to the bottom but a grey block above.

NH1805. I stopped using Edge, it didn't seem to work well generally. I use Chrome and can change the avatar easily via my own laptop photo storage reducing to 500 each time before I start the process. On my phone the photos people post on here have a much better quality, I can zoom in on them easily. But if I post photos via my phone, not so good. frown

Strange & not sure why.   Changed Avatar picture to a row of cottages after adding Gnome photo in previous post but it doesn’t show here. Just now I closed  Chrome & logged in 1st via  Firefox & then Edge Both of these show the Avatar row of cottages.  Now testing adding photo to post

As Avatar cottages did not show I changed to seat I had used before but no show here using Chrome I logged in via Edge & it's there as per below.  Really weird.

It's a mystery 😉.  But full credit to you for persisting.

Really if you have to have a tutorial to show you how to post photos maybe it's too complex?? A bit like having a video to explain the rebrand 😉😉😉. What should be clear and simple - ain't 😔.

I've not seen a tutorial on fb or the BBC when hey ask for your photos 😉

Logged in via Chrome this am & Avatar had changed to seat which I did last night. Have changed to row of cottages just now to see if/how long it takes to show on here as it is not showing just yet.

Good to see you continued & added photos to your story.  As brue said somewhere posting pics on CT has also taught me things I would not have known so thanks to all who have posted info on CT.

"With a pc and the right browser big pics are possible"

Chas, I think I missed your point?

ET posted an image that when clicked displays at about 5 and a half inches by 4.

Your images show at 5 and a half inches by 4......ie the same size on my particular PC?

Obviously different screen sizes and set ups will show at different sizes.

PS. My attitude to the CC is that the image posting system and the resulting image is simply an insult to all members.

You're right: it should just a simple 'insert photo here' system with automatic sizing.

My point is/was that it is possible to display a page-width photo which is directly viewable, not in a pop-out, without clicking on a thumbnail.

The quality of the thumbnails when enlarged by right clicking is better than larger photos. I much prefer thumbnails. It is fairly easy to edit/resize to 500 (once you have a go and pick a reasonable photo) and the results on here, when enlarged as explained, look better than larger photos. IMHO  Famous Shetland bus stop photo. smile

    Chas...yes of course...thanks.

The obvious limiting factor is the very small size of the forum viewable area which just makes matters worse!

On my PC the actual viewing area for forum script/images is 29% of the monitor width....with Windows Edge...IE 11 is a few percent wider and on a laptop I use it is 24%.

Brue the trouble is when an image is only 5" wide on a medium sized PC screen much detail is unreadable.

    Still, things won't changefrown

You can right click to enlarge as said or you could right click and "open image in a new tab" and then use zoom. Much depends on the original image how much detail you'll see. This is using a laptop. If I use my Android phone I can easily enlarge the images just by touching the screen.

A left click on a thumbnail gives the full size image (5 and a half inches across)

'Open in new tab' or 'Open in new window' gives a 5 and three quarter image that isn't expandable.

I've got quite an old laptop, using the latest windows and chrome, it works on my system but maybe some have different set ups?

Repeating photo (done on micro) from another thread to see if the zoom improves the detail.
