Why did I say that name?! It should be Heuchera.embarassed (In which case it's probably a type of saxifrage...?)

Ta, Brue but not that one. That has too many flowers and the ones on "mine" have very small flowers. My stem seems to grow straighter as well.

Don't think it would be an escapee as no gardens nearby, mainly parkland and agricultural fields for cattle. I'll PM NTH with the photo (ta NTH).

Took a slow stroll around our local mini nature reserve having heard rumours of a family of Otters, only to find a Mute Swan nest where the Otters were seen the day before. Not sure which is the male, but we arrived just as the sitting bird gave way to the mate to incubate the 5 eggs. Nest being about 10 yards from the main pathway through the reserve and in full view.

White tailed Eagle and Osprey in the area of Buckenham Marshes/Strumpshaw so if time allows will pop over today, if not they will hopefully still be around tomorrow.  The Sea Eagle has been floating around the area for a couple of weeks now

Sorry you dipped on the dotterel, Oneputt, especially after making the long trip to see them. We walked up Pendle this afternoon and had no luck either. In fact saw very little at all. Very windy though, I struggled to walk in a straight line at the top, so maybe the birds have gone elsewhere. Will try again next week.....

Not a problem Pliers, we had a great time and saw plenty. On Pendle there were Golden Plovers incl young, Meadow Pipits and Skylarks, Grey Wagtails.

At the top of Malham Cove we spent a lovely hour or so watching the female Peregrine on the nest, Wheatear, Tree pipits etc..

Can't say the drive back through Bradford was as enjoyable although it provide a level of entertainmentlaughing

We have a large Badger set at the top of the field where we walk our dog, OH often seen the badgers on the large grass verge by the road on his way to work in the mornings at 3 am.

This week while out with our dog, we were surprised to see the badger out and about in the middle of the afternoon, luckily saw the badger before the dog so were able to tell him to stay! OH even managed to get a photo smile Amazing to see considering there is a large housing estate just on the other side of the road. They have been seen in gardens along there sometimes. Will be on the lookout now when walking the dog from now on.

Thank you Oneputt, not the best picture, but it was a bit of a surprise to see it out in the middle of the afternoon.

The female Peregrine at Malham Cove last weekend.  Due to the distance and the scrub around the nest very difficult to focus.  Great views of this magnificent bird through bino's and scope.  You won't get a view like this from the bottom of the Cove.

Pallid Harrier at Whitendale this morning. Wow, what a bird! Entertaining the large crowd with an amazing display of sky dancing, doing reps up and down the valley.

Good luck to the bird, Bowland is not harrier friendly, the game keepers there have a well earned dreadful reputation.

Also had good views of 2 pied flycatchers on the walk back down to Dunsop Bridge.

Will try to add a photo, taken by a pal of mine last Wednesday.

Great photo Pliers.  There's really good film on Surfbirds (Northwest) of the harrier in flight.  Must say that the Harrier in Lancs looks a lot paler than the one in Norfolk last year.

Not taken by me though, I struggle to get a decent pic of a swan on a park lake!

Very photogenic bird, many people taking photos, so expect more to appear on the birding websites soon.

After hearing Cuckoos calling for the last few days I saw my first ones of the year this morning, when out walking on the West Highland Way up to Conic Hill.

If we get a clear night tonight (last night was good in the SW) take a look at the rising moon towards the south moving westwards. You'll see Jupiter just below it, a bit like a double pearl earring.smile

Managed to see what I assume was Jupiter just under the moon and to the right, came and went a bit! Much brighter planet about the same height as the moon about 9.40pm. Thanks

Great link brue, thanks. It was Jupiter I saw. I've tried night sky apps but not got on well with them. This link seems to make things much clearer for this uneducated idiot 😉

Flamingos, like Zulus - hundreds of 'em, on the salt pans along the N332 south of Santa Pola.

Took advantage of a sunny afternoon with a trip to Slimbridge yesterday. Lovely to see so many chicks wandering about, so thought about sharing.

Flamingos doing what they do and a Greylag Goose family with a tired little fella.

Speaking of Greylag, where is pappa greylag these days?

    Who can you mean?

Been a bit quiet lately, doing peregrine watch tomorrow and Friday.

Stayed near Peterborough last week and had a redkite overhead every day, all day.  Also had Kestrels nesting in an owl box less than 50 metres away, real treat.

Walked up the river today for a couple of hours, with only this harrier for company. Oh...and a Reed bunting

Croatia, week after next, wonder what birds I am in for?

    Hey GL

nice pics of the harrier. Looks like GA is finding things a bit difficult, it is hard to see anything on the web cam up to now, havn't looked for a couple of days though.

Bath trio managing so far and both Bristol pairs are doing well I believe.

A number of Bullfinches on site today, feeding on the ground behind the van. A GSW preening himself on a Beech tree overlooking our pitch. Numerous Whitethroats spotted down Glen Lochy and Cuckoos calling from both sides of the valley.
