Problems with gas oven.
Wonder if anyone else has had problems with gas oven We own a Bailey Pursuit and for two years the problem persists. The oven ignites but flame won't stay on. Dealer has " repaired" it several times but doesn't seem to come up with a valid explanation.Help!

Silly question coming up 😯. Is the lid completely upright? We've had this and it wasn't completely straight so safety cut-out cut in. I find I need to hold the button in for quite some time after ignition otherwise the flame dies. Once it's got a bit warm it's fine.

The usual cause for the oven failing to stay lit is that the thermocouple which keeps the flame alight (the little black spike by the burner) can be missed by the pilot flame and therefore does not get hot enough to work. Alternatively, the thermocouple or valve maybe faulty. Very few caravan engineers seem to be aware of this.
It is easy to check if the thermocouple is working correctly. When holding the button in to light the oven, the pilot flame should light and the thermocouple should glow a dark red colour. If it doesn't, then refer to my first paragraph.
Ensure that the glass hob top is fully open before trying to light the oven if your oven is of the type that requires this. Not all are.

if its a Thetford Duplex then this is a known issue....
the oven lights, you release the button and the flame dies....
the issue is that the button releases a fraction too far and cuts off the gas supply.
cure, a small washer to restict the movement outwards of the button.
how do i know this?
i had the same issue with the same oven.....5 minute fix.

We have a Bailey, and had same problem, oven wouldn't stay lit from brand new. We took it back to dealer who 'fixed it', but next trip, exactly same. We got authorisation to use a local caravan engineer who fitted the thermocouple properly !! It has been fine since

We bought a Frankia fitted with a Dometic oven. The flame goes out after a while. Initially we thought it was linked to when using the external bbq and oven at the same time. Also that maybe it happens when we open/shut the door (at the side of the oven). Today has confirmed that it happens on its own. The flame appears to be lifting off the jets at the ignition end, just before it goes out.
Instruction above oven states open roof vents ( done that), staycation currently prevents all windows being open .....
Is it the thermostat?

My oven, mentioned above, had a repeat of the earlier issue...
cure?....add a small piece of tin foil inside the main push button to ensure the valve is opened wide enough to allow for full ignition...
simple and effective...
i hadn't realised, but this was the 'washer' the dealer said they fired when fixed the first time. It looks like the control knob has its 'hole' mounded slightly too deep....or the valve stem is too short!
a common problem.

Another possible cause is that the Thetford Caprice Mk III oven in our Bailey Unicorn frequently cuts out due to a build up of carbon on the thermocouple. For some reason it seems to be vary susceptible to this. I find that if I give it a quick clean every couple of uses and it works fine. Just get rid of the accumulated carbon which stops the thermocouple registering a temp and therefore cutting the supply off. Obviously do this when the oven is cold before use. Hope that helps.
