Cost of CMHC sites- Hillhead

The fact that it's just off the very busy Torbay ring road would put me off, PD.

Yes, we wanted Hillhead for the location, but £25 per night is rather more than we want to pay in September.
We have the car for transport, so buses are not a factor. Will check out other locations before deciding, still plenty of time.
All suggestions welcome!
This year we have got caught up in the long Easter peak period for sites here on the way to our ferry, and on the other side there are long holiday periods in April/May in Holland, so we were hoping for more reasonable prices here come September to balance things out.

Woodlands! Isn't that the site attached to the theme park? If so, I wouldn't touch it.
Do you particularly want a full facility site, Kjell?

Would it not be quiet once the school holidays are over? We only use the site as a base, we are out exploring all day.
Toilets and showers etc not essential, but having them does save me some work, and at my age that can only be good!
A serviced CL pitch would be very acceptable.

It would probably be ok Kj, we drove past it recently, it's in a nice rural spot on the Dartmouth side with fairly close access to the Start Bay coast. Nothing else nearby so you'd have to drive to local amenities etc. But there is now a big retail park that side of Dartmouth for food shopping etc.

I'm sorry I don't know much about booking the site, it looks as though there might be a deposit involved or minimum stays etc. I think you'll have to check through their system, possibly all will be ok for a last minute booking after the main holidays. I'd check out the theme park too, make sure you don't mind it being there. Hope you find somewhere, it's a lovely part of Devon.

It's up to you, Kjell. It could well still be hectic at weekends.
I, too, would suggest Ramslade for a full facility club site, or the Stover non-facility site is very good and not far out of Torbay.

Nice avatar, Brue. I know exactly where it was taken from and I used to work around the other side of Rusty Anchor (West Hoe point) overlooking the Ferryport.

We tried to book there back in December for June this year and couldn't get dates to suit. We were last there 19 years ago, not long after it opened, and still one of the best sites we have ever used👍

Each to their own, PD. I prefer somewhere a little quieter away from the madding traffic but if it suits you, that's good.

I have tried all the Club sites in the area except Totnes, it is never open in October. I like Ramslade but not the access and prefer Widdecombe for the ease of access to Torbay. all the others are too far out. Even a taxi to into Torquay doesn't break the bank.

They also charge extras rather than inclusive like Hillhead. They're in two such different areas, that would be the choice for me, where I wanted to be, East or South Devon. There are some CLs near Oakdown which would really bring the cost down for a family.
There are also some good CLs in South Devon!

We've just had 3 nights for £50.20 at Shrewsbury, and 3 nights at Betws y coed, again for £50.20. Morris leisure were offering 3 nights for the price of 2, and a discount for Club members. We're now at Woodlands caravan site, just below Harlech castle, paying £22 per night. The wfi is free, as is the pouring rain and the sound of the waterfall. Great value!

£83.40 next week for 3 nights, so maybe bot just the CC upping their prices😂

We are again going to hillhead in September ( the pool will be open ) and looking at our other favorite site the New Forest centenary site the prices for September are exactly the same for a serviced pitch but I agree there is a high price hike in the main holidays at Hillhead considering the money they must take over the club bar for meals and drinks. perhaps the new Logo and name may help

But you're going and no doubt will enjoy it. The cost of running the two heated pools will be very high and there are more staff wages etc at Hillhead. There probably isn't much net profit in the restaurant and bar but it's a good facility.

I am at Hillhead at the moment, doing a recce for a New Year trip. price for 6 days was about £115 from memory, so not vastly expensive.
however, first impressions of the layout are good, we have a sea view, nice hedges bordering the hs pitches where we are, a bit like the continental sites we are used to, rather thsn the regimented rows, overlooking each other.
will recce bars and restaurant area later or tomorrow....
