There is a very simple answer that I found and with my encouragement, others have found, to do away with high prices. Invest in modern technologies, fit them to your van and go non EHU. 7 nights on my sites would be between £28 and if I really wanted to push the boat out - £56! Non EHU caravanning is nothing to do with going back to basics. It is just as comfortable with oodles of hot water, showers, cosy heating etc. The only thing I have changed is my bank balance for the better.!!!!

We are booked in there at the beginning of June. It appears to be very quiet mid-week in term time - hence the £58 for two people, awning, dog etc etc Sunday to Thursday inclusive. Price shoots up to £34 pn Friday and Saturday when it will obviously be busy and we will just put up with that. Still works out much cheaper for two weeks than CC sites and is easy to get to. Start Bay doesn't appeal since it is very crowded and not that easy to get to with a large van. The best site, by far, around Dartmouth was Little Cotton but sadly, this has now gone.

I'm not sure that many people who don't go to Europe know about ACSI - so have a look on www.campingcard.co.uk for more information.
Woodlands Grove accepts the ACSI card (as Ian says at 15 euros or equivalent in GBP per night for pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning, and electricity) during the periods 24-03-2017 - 13-04-2017, 17-04-2017 - 27-04-2017, 01-05-2017 - 25-05-2017, 04-06-2017 - 15-07-2017 and 03-09-2017 - 29-10-2017 - so most of June, in fact.
There are forty six other sites which accept the ACSI card, in Great Britain, and for those who complain about the high cost of CMC sites it may be worth looking at this as an alternative. Ladys Mile (for instance) in Devon is just 13 euros (or £11.00) per night during the following periods: 01-01-2017 - 25-05-2017, 01-06-2017 - 15-07-2017 and 01-09-2017 - 31-12-2017!! You never know it might encourage others to dip their toes over the water too.

It is actually being advertised at £54 for 5 nights so still cheaper than using a ACSI card, which one has to actually pay for, so increasing the cost per night.

At Woodlands they apparently charge £3.50 per night for electricity, according to their detailed tariffs, and £3.50 per night for awning, and there are huge increases in the price at weekend. The ACSI price of 15 euros includes awning, electricity and weekend dates. A subscription including an ACSI card, ID Card and App, direct from www.campingcard.co.uk can cost as little as £10.97 including postage (if you have a fee free credit or debit card) so if you're going to use it in this country for more than a few days it would be worth it.

But is there a quick and easy way of finding out which sites use ACSI and when - and what extra charges ther are? (eg awnings, EHU, dogs etc).
Because it seems the wrong way round to do things to me - buy an ACSI card and the see where and when you can use it.

I bought ACSI couple of years ago thinking I could use it here and find out more about using it abroad. It wasn't worth it from the UK perspective.
Hillhead is still better value in high season than the big commercial sites offering similar things. The site is often full during seasonal holidays and late summer too.

A good question M. I could not find one. Although it let me download the app. It would not let me populate it with sites until I had subscribed for the book and card as well. As far as I know, you cannot just buy the app information alone. Although others may know different.

Brue has given you the link and each of the 47 UK sites sets out their own card acceptance dates, but the set charge always includes outfit, plus two people, plus awning, plus electricity, plus one dog. Fixed rate.

I had a look yesterday, shocking website to use, even for the few U.K. Sites. I gave up to be honest. We know some of Sites on there as well.

Just had a (admittedly very cursory) look at that.
Most seem to be the big holiday camp type sites mainly in the south of England, with quite restrictive dates and, relevant to us, a maximum of one dog. I could only find one site in Cumbria and one in Yorkshire, again both large holiday camp type sites.
So, although undoubtedly good value if that suits you, to mis-quote Dragons Den "we're out"!

You're right about the larger sites - and the dates are 'restrictive' in that they generally avoid the peak school holidays, but although the website says 'One dog' it means that one dog is included in the ACSI Card price, but you can take extra dogs provided the site allows more dogs per pitch. You just pay a little extra for them - just as you would if you were paying the 'normal' tariff.
The card isn't for everyone, but for those who might be considering Hillhead (which is what the original post is about) it does offer alternatives, and some very significantly cheaper for June when the OP was hoping to go away.

Well in that case, I have to say that's a good offer, NtH so thanks for passing it on - and if we get our 'over here' caravan off pitch them we just might be tempted to have a few nights 'darn south'.
I wonder just how much the C(andM)C are missing out by not making similar offers a times when they have a lot of available pitches..
