Instead of Malcolm saying "I tried that, but the boss didn't agree" why isn't it the boss saying "I tried to get the drivers to pay for the food, but Malcolm (the only person who will work for me and accept my slave wages) wouldn't agree to that. So now I have to get on and sort out my business properly, arrange credit with the shops, or as an absolute last resort, provide my drivers with a cash float for the odd shop that I haven't got to yet"  ?

We use card payments for most of the ones we have to pay so only need to carry enough cash to give change to customers or to those restaurants that don't accept cards. For smaller orders under £30, it's quicker and easier to use contactless than to spend time counting cash.

Somehow Malcolm, I do not think B2 had a pizza delivery job in mind as an alternative to D2G!

A "proper job" would be one where you were paid at least the minimum wage for all  the hours you worked, the hours were more reasonable, and you could both be earning if necessary.

It seems he's got one of the Brighton drivers to work the Worthing area weekday evenings. That's why we finish between 7 and 8 p.m. for 4 days a week.

It's our first school visit of the season (Nature Orienteering). And a prefect day for it!

Read all about the visits HERE

Meanwhile, I'm inside preparing the paperwork for seventeen cows that are going down to a Cheesemaker in Sussex later this week.

And of course the slurry spreading and rolling goes on.

I didn't know that cows were skilled in making cheese.......probably better paid than delivering pizzas.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to open up the whole how Malcolm earns his living debate yet  again. Maybe there should be a dedicated thread for it 😉.

Cheesemaking requires sufficient (and the right sort of) protein - and Dairy Shorthorns' milk is well suited.

Glorious here. Oh to be in England,  substitute UK,  now that spring is here.

Goldie hope the school visit goes well. Good to show the kids how we get our food.  Enjoy the paperwork. I'm fascinated by cheese making cows 😉. Very willing get to test the product. Safe journey for them. They must be a decent buy to warrant the travel 😆. Will it be organic?

Don't think it would be used. undecided

It's a useful eye opener for some though. This is the gig economy. There's no going back

Can see why The Exchequer is getting twitchy 😉. Every days a school day on here. Look what our forebears did for us, fought for decent pay, paid holidays,  bank holidays etc and we're almost back to beyond where they had a starting point. Would be funny if it wasn't so serious. You couldn't make it up!

Got to admire the bottle of someone even proposing that way of work - I thought they'd have a rude awakening immediately. It appears not.

    I've said enough 🤐

Drove down to Cornwall this morning to open up the static for the new season. We have a well established routine for these trips. Up at 5:30 to take the dogs for a spin round the block before the journey (lovely time, no traffic noise, just the early morning bird chorus). Leave at 6, arrive at 9 just in time for a bacon & egg sarnie at the garden centre round the corner. Drop stuff off at the van and head up to Penhale Dunes to give them a good run off the lead. Back to the van for a coffee and leisurely sort out!

All set for the next 10 months now! (Smiley smiley!)

Some people do not have the luxury of choice when it comes to 'proper' jobs Bakers and unscrupulous firms will take advantage of that. Uber, most of the courier firms, a lot of the food delivery services etc.  It won't change and it could well get worse

If the government don't like it then I'm all for it. wink

(I'm not really. I'm a firm believer in decent wages and working conditions)

Thought I'd post a pic of the CL we've just been staying on. Vose Farm nr Caerhays/Heligan/ Mevagissey. Very nice CL will do review later. Three hour  plus journey, vet and cattery. A bit tired now!

I presume you must have told them, otherwise I would hope the antifraud software would have locked it. Unless of course it thinks it normal for someone to eat multiple KFC's and MD's each day. Hope it is a card with rewards.😀

Miserable day today frown damp grey and some light rain, guess that's it we had 4 good days summer is over laughing

Been sorting things out in the motorhome, OH has tried out his new wifi booster aerial, seem to make a fair bit of difference.

Chap who is supposed to be laying our new garden path hasn't phoned or popped in to see us like he promised, so guess he doesn't want the job then, his loss I will go elsewhere really hate workmen that don't do as they say. He was supposed to start on Monday but when we called on Friday to check what time he was coming he said he was a bit behind due to the weather and would come and see us to firm up details.

It is lovely to see the picture of Vose Farm Brue.

We stayed there for a week last summer and loved it. The weather was perfect and we got to see a porpoise and her baby on the boat trip to Fowey.

Vose Farm is a beautiful CL. Have they completed the second CL they were planning? Can't wait for my 5 weeks in Cornwall this summer!

PS Is your avatar a picture of Porlock Weir? Another of my favourite places. Son lives in Somerset- I spend a lot of time down there in the van!

When we first started using it in this way, I got a text message to ask if the payments were genuine, after I gave an affirmative answer, they accepted it and it was never questioned again although occasionally after a few contactless payments, they ask for a pin. We use Barclaycard, no rewards except 0 per cent interest.

Our last delivery was an off licence order for wine and cigarettes. So there's one customer who won't drink and drive tonight or use a taxi! It's gone quiet again now. Only 20 minutes to go until we finish and that will be my driving done for the day! So that will be my chance to enjoy a meal and a drink. The meal is cooking in the slow cooker as I type this!

Thanks Gill, not the best photo of the CL with my phone! I didn't spot any other work going on but it's certainly a lovely CL. We went especially to see the spring flowers at Caerhays, really beautiful, after the visit we spent several hours parked up on the beach car park just enjoying the views. Yes my ever changing avatar is Porlock Weir at the moment, we're often over there throughout the year. Pleased to hear you like Somerset.smilesmile
