Have a  lovely  time Bakers2 and enjoy your R&R.  VERY wet morning here and now drizzling and very cold but at least not as windy as yesterday.  Big celebrations here as I have been trying for months to get the council to send their gutter cleaner/sweeper down our road without any success.  They kept telling me it had been done and I kept saying no it hadn't - there must be some fault with their road cleaning map.  They finally arrived todaysmile. The council departments really should liaise with each other though as it was bin day today and they had to crawl along behind the bin lorrylaughing

I'm now getting used to using the Enterprise rented car. It looks like it could be 10 days before the Smart car will be ready for return to us. It's been a quiet afternoon today with only one cigarette delivery to do from the off licence.

The boss rang me to ask if I could work late tonight, so 11 p.m. finish today!

We're now back to working 7 days a week, no days off anymore and 3 days of 11 hours with 4 days of 7 hours.

The weather is getting better though. The sun has come out after the rain we had earlier today.

It's a lot better now that the daylight hours are lengthening.

It's fibre to the house. Our three parishes have raised so far £375K. A lot of the work is done by volunteers, landowners donate the wayleave.

Here at Hillhead. Nice view of the sea, birds singing, sun shining. Not good news from London.

No sighting of whale yet. Will have a drink in the bar later perhaps that will increase the chance.?! wink

Terrible news from London. Thoughts and prayers for all those who have died been or been injured and their families,  and to those who are charged with protecting us. So glad I don't work around there any more.

Delighted to report wind has gone so has the rain and we have a lovely sunset.

ABM belive it or not I was wearing the same top as I watched last night 😂. Was a decent ice cream if you're going to sin do it with gusto 😉😉

Well done milliehull. Persistence does pay off, as you say shame council departments don't talk to each other, but there again the slower the better to pick up the dirt.

Brue I do hope you get to see the whale.

Malcolm good luck with your new hours 😯

    Really terrible, so sad.

My Son & DIL + Grandson are due to visit London for  long weekend at the end of March so a little concerned for their trip although I know they will still go because you have to get on with life but it doesn't stop you worrying?

We just have to carry on as normally as possible and be extra vigilant. I worked in the area during the 70s when we had the IRA threats.

Yes, but unfortunately many companies will not offer that much work because of the large amount they would have to pay! Many companies only offer part-time work when they have to pay a proper amount.

Exactly the approach my Son will have, I know.

I spent time working in and around London around the same times, even exhibiting at Chelsea Flower Show when that was evacuated due to a bomb scare!

Half as many hours at minimum wage might be better Malcolm.

We had our lovely baby daughter (who sadly later died) in Brompton Hospital in London in 1974 at the height of the IRA attacks. I just learnt to be extra vigilant but I know my Mum worried all the time I was there. As you say Bakers2 we have to carry on as normal however difficult that may be.

Good luck to Mrs.Husky, best wishes to Brue, Bakers and MillieH for their trips away and hope Triky enjoys his new jamjar.

I'm off this thread for a while. I don't enjoy soap operas, particularly those that are constant repeats and I'm afraid that that is what The life of Malcolm has turned into. Had enough.

It depends how busy it is, HD. If it's very busy, my earnings can work out to more than the minimum wage. I recall one Saturday when I earned over £90 in delivery fees for 10 hours which worked out to £9 per hour. On that occasion several orders came in at the same time, so I got to do three at a time, of orders in the same area, which tripled the delivery fee earnings.

Thanks bakers2. Yes it was an extremely difficult time for so many reasons. But we were lucky and were later blessed with our youngest son and have 3 lovely children and their families. The British, especially  Londoners, are very resilient and I am sure we will overcome this terrible terrorist attack.

The problem is companies can't always afford to pay the minimum wage. I recall how it became headline news when Tesco made the biggest loss in corporate history! So how can a company that is making losses afford to pay wages to their staff? That's why minimum wage jobs are hard to get!
