    Picked Lizzie up at about 1pm today.  Back home now.  She's feeling a little sorry for herself, but things have gone well.  Apparently she objected to being caged so they gave up on that idea and kept her in (I think) a pen close to where she could see people going past.  She has staples under her 'chin' which will need to be removed in 10 days time.

    She's having a good rest now.  Thanks to everyone who have sent their good wishes and kind words.

    Wonderful news David. You can now relax a little now she is home. We know you will be keeping a close eye on her and now she is home she will come on leaps and bounds.

    The dressing where they put the 'fluid drain' in has come off now - they said I'd would, and told us just to leave it.  The big wound that has staples didn't have a dressing anyway.  She has an appointment with our usual vet tomorrow morning just to check on progress, but everything appears to be fine.

    Good news indeed David. The vet will check her over tomorrow and she will continue to improve. We know exactly how you felt as we lost our 3 year old Labradoodle to lymphoma in January so we can empathise with you. You will treasure every day with her.

    Really sorry to hear about your dog, Andrea and Kerry.  Lizzie's problems are a lot less serious, but we did have the worry of that when the lump first appeared.  I think we have been lucky, but I don't know what we would have done without the insurance.  We're just keeping our fingers crossed that we have a problem free remainder of 2017.

    Sounds like good news, David.

    They must wonder what on earth is going on - being left with strangers, in a strange place and having things 'done' to them.

    But they are remarkably resilient and she will hopefully get back to normal very quickly.

    I have to admit, Ian, that always goes through my mind too.  You can even explain to a small child the basis of what is going on, and at the end of it all they'll be coming home.  As far as a dog is concerned, once you have left them, I guess they have no idea what is going on, or if you will ever go back for them.  That's what I find particularly distressing.  I'm sure I get more distressed than the dog!  smile

    The check-up went fine with our own vet yesterday - she is set too have the staples removed next Wednesday.  Thanks for the good wishes.

    Yes David, we had insurance and are the same as you. Pet Plan were absolutely magnificent with us, saving a lot of additional stress which we certainly did not need. The cost was more than the insurance cover but you do everything you can to help them.

    All well that ends well!  It looks as if we are reaching the end of the problem with Lizzie.  She's had the staples taken out this morning and all seems absolutely fine.  She's well on the road to recovery now so we are relieved all round.  Furthermore our local vet took out the staples and didn't charge us for the appointment.

    Glad to hear that Lizzie's fully recovered, David. It's always a worry when our pets have to make an unscheduled visit to the vet and a relief when they're back to full fitness.

    Took our Murphy to the Vets today, he is 8 years old and such a gentle chap. Murph has a lump near his bum, the Vet examined it & it's a malignant carcinoma that is aggressive and will spread. The Vet said the tumour might be operable, but we're buying time not a cure.

    We are devastated. Here is a photo of him taken last summer.

    Oh no, what terribly sad news for you. We really feel for you as we lost our precious Scooby in January and she was only 3. After the operation, is there any further treatment that could be offered such as chemotherapy?

    please let us know how things go as we are keeping everything crossed for you and Murph.

    That is such sad news, fb, particularly as it appears to have come out of the blue. I can only imagine how devastated you must be feeling, but I am sure whatever decision you come to will be in Murphy's best interests.

    Thanks Moulsey & Kerry.

    We've just had a call now from the specialist he goes in next Wednesday. We've read up on the specialist Vet & she seems highly qualified. Murph is our treasure & we've both said whatever time he's got left we're going to spoil him. This starts on Thursday where we're booked  into a site on Anglesey by the beach (he loves the beach) for 3 nights. Will let everyone know how Murph gets on.
