What are you all up to

We arrived in Worthing on time at 12 noon but no orders so far, so we're parked by Broadwater Green. The sun has just come out for the first time today. It was overcast when we left and during our commute from Redhill. The daisies have come out on Broadwater Green; another sign of Spring.

It's back into action! We've just got our first order. A Kfc delivery to a regular customer.

I'm sure he must have some interesting customers! He just prefers to keep them secret!

Anyhow, we had a gap after the last delivery so we treated ourselves to the £3 Subway meal deal at the Cricketers Parade, Broadwater. I had the big beef melt and my wife had the spicy Italian plus a cup of tea each. We also got parking right opposite using the Smart car that can fit into tiny spaces!
The temperature has climbed to 18 degrees so quite warm outside!

That will be the Western Ferries route from near Gourock to near Dunoon, however it goes nowhere near Arran. For Arran you go from Ardrossan. Then I believe there is a ferry from the north of the island to somewhere.
However, I would not advise it as the cost of taking a caravan that way is eye-watering. Only worth paying to go to Arran if you plan to stay several days.
Tried to check the cost of the Dunoon ferry, but difficult to find details, could well be about £50 one way.
The roads from Dunoon northwards are not that great, though better than the unimproved stretch along Loch Lomond, and it would take you a lot longer going that way from Ayr than using the route we discussed a few weeks back......M77 from Ayr to Glasgow then motorway towards Stirling before heading west towards Oban......you were going to check it out on UK Sites and Touring where it has been discussed at least twice recently.
I do not think you have allowed enough time on your trip as it is, without adding extra travelling time!
However, If using the Dunoon ferry you would take the coast road from Ayr, via Largs, to the ferry point, this is scenic in places, but also narrow and twisty in the same places. It is a road I know well as we lived in Gourock for 5 years. We did take our first caravan, quite a small one, over on the ferry and went to a site near Inverary, not sure I would fancy doing that with our present van!
From the Dunoon side you then head north on the A815 up Loch Eck, join the A83 towards Inverary, then take off there onto the A819 which takes you along Loch Awe where you join the A85. When you reach Connel Bridge, you take the A828 over the bridge and that brings you to the North Ledaig site.
Many of these A roads are fairly minimal in width, so great care is required, definitely no admiring the scenery while driving!

After a second look at the Dunoon ferry website it seems the cost would be car+driver £16.80, passenger £4.40. caravan £33.60, so £54.80 total.
Can only see the winter fares for the CalMac ferry to Arran, summer is more expensive, at present that would be £45.25 for Ardrossan to Brodick.
Winter fare on the ferry from Arran northwards would be £29.10

If going via Arran the onward ferry is to Claonaig on Kintyre, from where there is a little road up to the A83, which takes you to Lochgilphead where you join the road up to Oban and beyond.
This is also a nice trip, but again narrowish twisty roads, quite time consuming.
I think if you were to go via Arran you would need to allow an overnight between Ayr and North Ledaig as these are slow roads.

Kjellnn, Gourick to Dunoon looks interesting as this route would take us through the Argyll Forest beside Loch Eck. I remember the Argyll Forest being spectacular for scenery from having visited 30 years ago. There used to be a Caravan Club site somewhere around there which I stayed at. I also remember the absence of traffic in that area.

No CC sites these days, it seems we in Scotland are poorly served compared to many parts of England.
Certainly we do not have the same density of population, but distances are much greater, so we need more sites per head.
Sure there will be some CLs and plenty of other sites.
Western Ferries you just turn up, for CalMac via Arran you are best to book.
Remember to take the slower roads into account and allow plenty of time for your trip.

Yes, I remember that too!

The advantage at that time of year is the length of daylight making it possible to enjoy scenery from 4 a.m. up until 10 p.m. So plenty of time in each day!

Yes, we have noticed that CLs are also thin on the ground in some areas up here, also quite a few have no EHU, so are ruled out for us at present as we do not have a solar panel.
I have not checked out the situation with sites of the other Club, and there are a few private sites.
Being "in our back yard", it is not an area we are visiting much at present, but did back in the 70s. Right now we are concentrating on trips abroad while we still can.
Now OH has finally managed to "retire" from looking after our local guide hall, we will have more opportunity to take spur of the moment shorter trips locally too. Must start thinking about where we will go in September.

Hope you can manage to get away Kj. I had a look at the other club and they are much the same for the area mentioned. We once drove up from New England Bay to Carradale Bay when we had our caravan ....a long old haul, much harder than we expected, we needed a day to recover!
We still haven't made proper plans for this year, got as far as June now, but just shortish trips.

Another glorious day here. Towels blowing gently on the line outside. Hubby replacing furniture in single bedroom I'm required any minute. I have spent the morning cleaning kitchen blind, I have started another post for hints and tips on cleaning horizontal blinds to avoid deviating from this thread 😉 and cleaning the window and door, too sunny to do conservatory windows at the mo, thankfully. Nice relaxing reflexology later this afternoon.
Enjoy your day folks

Will have to find a disguise or another way out of the village. Started a walk this morning and after a half an hour still hadn't left the adjoining road to ours, then after breaking free we almost immediately bumped into a former neighbour who has moved to the other end of the village so another 20 minutes went by. As we'd ordered coffee from MIL back home after 90 minutes we had a shortened walk. It was good to catch up with folk though, especially as some of it did involve talk of caravanning/motorhoming.
Have to stay around house this afternoon as Gas Boiler due for servicing and it's one of those 12-6 appointments! Got some gardening done and all windows cleaned. Amazing to find muscles in my back that I'd forgotten about. Now aching. Could do with a nice massage but boiler man probably doesn't extend his services that far.
