Great Savings Guide - again

Earlier this week I spent 20+ minutes listening to the CAMC's lovely "musak" while I waited for someone from the Club shop extension to be free to answer the phone. (Not blaming them for being busy!).

My request was for a hard copy of the Great Savings Guide which was readily granted and the book deivered today, so it is obvious that there are plenty in stock to send to members on request.

BUT....why is there not a link on the GSG webpage so that members can simply click on it to order a copy and therefore save themselves the dreaded "musak" and at the same time free up hard pressed staff to deal with other matters more quickly?

I see the down loadable vouchers have been updated with the new name, but as you say, no booklet available to order. There is no CAMC shop either so maybe this will come on line again soon?

It does seem a bit strange. I have just had a look, and as you say no way to order it on line. I can only assume they are trying to phase out the book and whilst not saying you can't have one, they are not making it easy, or even obvious a hard copy exists. I would have preferred one to the stickers, which I did not request and am unlikely to use.

Can somebody please inform me what we have to do to get one of these. I am not prepared to sit on the phone waiting for somebody at Club HQ to answer a phone. In past years we have benn able to order on line but as already stated not this year, and we are unable to print these vouchers as we do not have a printer.

Please, please can we have a thought for those of us who would like a hard copy.

If you don't want to phone why not just email a request? You could also mention the reason why you're emailing 😃

Unless I am missing something ET that is only to the online version. I think what is annoying folk is the lack of a link to order a copy. Last year this was possible and took a few seconds. This year it would seem you have to write an email or make a phone call.

That's progress I suppose. Although not the sort that is likely to attract the younger caravaner, that is used to using e vouchers. If they want to wean people off the book, they need to negotiate with the companies that are in it to accept these. Having to print one off is so old school. 😇

Online is fine whilst at home with internet access and a printer..but for me, the hard copy is best to have in the van as you have all the venues to hand and vouchers too..

I notice that you can live chat with an agent, but not at the weekends, only 9am - 9pm  Monday to Friday.. so I will wait..

Doesn't seem customer friendly or a very adventurous , pioneering or forward thinking approach to me.... undecided

If I have the book I might  use an offer. Very rare though. However without the book certainly would not.

It does seem they want to make it hard to get. Doesn't seem long since they sent out to all.

It well worth having though ET, in October last year we used a voucher to get  2 for one into the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle and saved a tenner.. also used it at Beamish ....Later this month we are going to the Peak District and want to go to the Tramway museum at Crich as we haven't been for many years, again two for one will save us half the entrance fee... smile

I have the vouchers for now, but a book for the rest of year would be very handy... ah well at least all the sites have been rebranded...wink

Hmmmmm. We are staying at Barnard Castle for 5 nights sometime this year. Not been to the Bowes Museum.

A long time since we were at Beamish. About 10 or 11 years and I believe that a lot has changed.

EasyT both Bowes and Beamish are well worth revisits. Beamish has evolved a lot. Don't think we'll get that far this year 😔

A good shout Bakers. We are staying about 20 miles away at Old Hartley, Whitley Bay this year. Might make a good visit

Whilst I hardly ever use the site book, preferring to use the web site. I find  the great savings guide in hard copy, much more useful than the web alternative.

If I have the book it is easy to look at the maps for where you are, to see if there is anything within range, then quickly flick to the page to see what it is. On the web site, if I wanted to see places around Barnard Castle on the map, I could search for this. However, it does not show all the finds on one map, you have to call up four separate maps. At the end of this, I would then of course have to print off the voucher. Very clunky to say the least.

I seem to recall that the 12 month update of site prices etc is no longer sent out either. I seem to recall requesting one last year and receiving individual sheets of paper rather than a booklet

I contacted live chat last night, asked for a hard copy, provided our membership number, and bingo, in the post. It isn't obvious where to order online, but this was an easy and pleasantly rapid response!

I have also done this, but they have not made it particularly obvious. One could almost think they did not want folk to order it.☹️

    Suppose I better try again.
