Who owns the 'club'

Thomas Coke, the 8th Earl of Leicester, not exactly what you'd call a well known character that you would associate with leisure
Actually he is a caravanner and a family man, so I would expect him to appreciate his leisure time wouldn't you ?
I'd rather that than yet another TV personality chosen just because they are known for liking outdoor pursuits like walking but don't own a caravan or motorhome.

He does own a caravan site and has a caravan...
I'm not a fan of the other club's president, much preferred her predecessor and left the club soon after her appointment but I don't know why a new president is needed at all. Especially a 'marmite' one.

I'll take the hit on this and be happy to be shot down, if he's an active caravanner then great.
I had to look him up though, he's not exactly at the forefront of Club life

His Lordship is a caravanner, at least it said he owns an Airstream. Question is, is he a member of the Caravan Club?
25.4 The President and the Vice-Presidents need not be members of the Club
The biographies of the the President and Vice President, prove that they are the sort of chaps to lead us forward into the brave new world we have been promised

Why not ask your questions at head office and if you don't get a satisfactory answer then raise them at the AGM instead of speculating here.
I see that my liability is limited to £1 which is all i need to know.

I asked a very similar question on here some months back and the post got removed/ Deleted User.
So would members of 'the club get a share in the assets?

That was answered back up the thread I believe

Unless you are a Full Member of the Club, you are not a guarantor and you do not have a Liability.
A Club Member (those that pay a subscription of £49 a year) is not a Full Member
As in the case when the RAC was sold, it is extremely unlikely that ordinary members will receive any share of monies should the Club ever be sold.

I think that you are mistaken. I believe that a person paying their membership becomes a full member. I think that a full member effectively holds one share in the club. One of the reasons I say this was I complained that because I am the family member, my wife is the first named member I cannot login properly to the website to make for example a booking in my name. The explanation given centred arround there only being one full member per family membership. The person giving the explanation was Mr G Chamberlian.
byelaws. If you look at the attached link you will see that the definitions of both Family and Joint members imply that they are attached to a full membership.

Referring to the Articles of Association, Full Members are required to apply to the Directors and be approved
11.2.2 accepts that, as a Full Member, he will be a member of the Company;
11.2.3 applies to the Company in the form required by the Directors; and
11.2.4 is approved by the Directors.
11.3 An application to become a Full Member may be approved or rejected by the Directors and no applicant shall be admitted as a Full Member or to membership of the Company unless their application has been approved by the Directors.
11.4 The Directors may refuse to admit any person to Club Membership of any kind, without assigning a reason for so doing.
This may just be legal speak, but if what you are saying is correct, has anyone applied to the Directors when joining?
If what you are saying is true and all first named applicants to join the Club are considered Full Members, then I CAN see why people are questioning why there wasn't notification for the rebranding and renaming of the Club given, with an opportunity to vote in a General Meeting. Given that Full Members can vote and according to the AofA, should be notified of pending General Meetings along with the AGM, to allow that voting opportunity.

As Full Members we pass over the day to day running of the club to the committee and the hired help. They have informed us of the changes.

Could have made it a competition for a member to come up with a design for new logo would have been far far cheaper even if they offered a few thou in caravan related prize.

Hi
You correct in your statement so each membership has a lead person and that person is a full members and allowed to vote at an AGM .

Mike

Under the area of club together / terms and conditions,The website and Online Community is owned and operated by The Caravan Club Limited, company number 646027, registered office is East Grinstead House, London Road, East Grinstead, West Sussex, RH19 1UA, United Kingdom ('The Caravan Club'). In these terms and conditions, "we" "us" and "our" mean The Caravan Club.

The Camping and Motorhome Club appears to be a trading name of the Caravan Club Ltd. Trading names are fairly common in business.
The Caravan Club Ltd is the holding company and holds the assets. It is not a commercial company though and is a device to protect the members assets if the club should go into liquidation and gives certain trading advantages.
In practice in makes no difference to members and is best ignored.

I read it like this,
The caravan and motorhome club is an organisation to which I pay a small subscription of £49 per annum. Having paid my subscription, I can now call myself a member, which allows me to use their club sites, and others at a discounted rate. I can also use their insurance services and get advice from their legal team.
Much like other clubs, Golf, fishing, car owners clubs the "subs" are paid by it's members solely to generate cash for the club.
If my golf club decides to make that rather easy par 4 on the fifth hole, a handicap busting 600yrd par 5, no amount of tantrum throwing will sway the decision makers, so I've just got get on with it.
If I cause enough of a stink, I may get my membership suspended or even terminated, I'm just a lowly member, a grunt.
But I trust that the club has got its own best interests at heart.
And will do everything within its power to make being a member a rewarding experiences.
I really don't care if it's called "The tin homes on wheels club".
Dave.

Hi guys, in response to 'who owns the Club':
The Club is owned and run by its members. The Executive Committee (all of whom are long-standing members) are your elected representatives, i.e. the company directors, and are not paid. The Club has no borrowings and pays no dividends so it is not diverted from its sole purpose of serving members. All surpluses are reinvested in Club services – overwhelmingly in the extension and development of your UK sites network. The legal entity remains ‘The Caravan Club Limited’, a company limited by guarantee, which is fully explained in the ‘Articles of Association’ and ‘The Club and how it works’ on the website.

Rochelle, where may I see a list of the shareholders?

i agree, we should have been consulted, balloted for the new name, if it is our club then maybe the exec committee should be removed at the next agm and replaced by people who listen to the members.

I am sure that is possible but you do realise that you and other like minded members would have to be prepared to put yourself forward for election in order to change the status quo. You would also have to be prepared to take on the full mantle of responsibility for running the Club. So to some extent the ball is in your court.
