The same Club, just better...

To the young ' uns caravans are not cool. (research conducted with 25 fellow university students last year)
They tell me MH's on a VW Transporter are cool but because they cannot afford them most don't go camping at all they go on a flight to the med for £30 or a flight to Mexico for £300.
Despite being taken all over Europe in both MH's and caravans for years my now grown up daughter thinks all camping is naff. This idea of risking everything just to appeal more to the young people is a risky one.
I really think that by wazzing off (technical term) existing loyal members the club has shot itself right in the foot and will drive members to the other club or they just won't bother and use the independent sites

I asked on Facebook for a plain English reply to what changes us members would see on the ground apart from new signs, this was the response, I will let you make up your own mind
Hello Janet.
Previously the imagery was mainly that of the sites themselves which a lot of our members are already aware of. We are not stopping this however we are also adding imagery of local attractions and scenes of outstanding beauty a stones throw away from the sites - hence using the word inspiration in our new branding. In addition to this we are building up more member offers with companies providing outdoor adventures for our members to utilise and create your own experiences.
I hope this is a little more plain English for you. ^Dean1 -
and will drive members to the other club
It looks like I'm a trailblazer

Thankyou for reporting this back to us. Perhaps if this had been communicated by the Committee to the members in last month's magazine a lot of upset would have been avoided.

I don't disagree that the other club is more attractive to younger campers and most of this is down to the stuffy image of this club.
However surely nobody seriously thinks that a new name and logo will change the image? It's the whole culture of the club that has to change. There needs to be a can do approach. Better communication, listening to members, passing updates out in a timely fashion etc. The last year or so has been dire and this rebrand could have been more exciting if there was some meat on the bones.
It's just smoke and mirrors at the moment and I hope some proposals are due very soon indeed.
One thing that really needs sorting out is the IT side. It's shockingly bad at the moment.

The club needs to throw out it's old stock of site photos and get some decent new ones. The latest sites directory still has old, out of date photos and some of the sites don't look inviting at all. There is one of Treamble Valley that just looks a mass of vans and another very old one of Hillhead with vans on pitches now used by tents....and more.

Quote - "As a motor caravan is now known as a motor home why can't a caravan be called a mobile home to reflect the new modern and use of the term?"
Cos I'm a caravanner and have been for forty years.I was a caravanner when I started and still am. My money has changed a bit in that time (Couldn't alter that either!), but I suspect the Caravan Club will continue wasting it and spending it on irrelevant name making projects. Who is credited with it Grenville? -- Or was it a "committee?" that Colin Crompton would have been proud of?

Completely agree, if you take a look at the C&CC website and publications, there are images galore of families interacting, pursuing leisure activities, children playing etc The images have a completely different feel to them. Any young family ditching the package holiday in favour of a caravan purchase to partake in the ever increasing staycation trend, are going to look at this material and make the obvious choice in which club to join.
New photos needed, my rates are very favourable

I am glad it's not just me that through it was bordering on rude. Let's face it there are to be no site or website improvements which is what is really needed. I have been with the caravan club on and off across 45 years. We use it for the same reason my parents did, the pitches are well spaced, the facilities are reasonable and it's not full of clubhouses etc. But the method of booking is appalling, and if you work and can't arrive on site until 6pm you have no chance of getting a decent pitch. And to be honest in this day and age I would expect wifi at a much better price than offered.

Well, 24 hours from the Club's very own go at Brexit, and one has been taking stock.
Did I feel the earth move? I did not.
Do I feel inspired? Sadly not.
Do I feel changed? Again, that's a no.
Do I have a handbook yet? Again, sadly that's a no.
Is the website working any better? Ho hum....more of the same really.
Am I really bothered about all this? Not really.
Life drifts merrily onward, maybe in a few years time I will recognise what this momentous day was all about, and I can say.....................
"I was there, it happened when I was a member"

When at the show yesterday,it was obviose that there was quite a lot of "we cannot answer that" as the question asked had not been scripted?
I asked if the one of the reasons that the younger families are taking to tents,is because modern houses have space for a trailer and all the modern kit that makes tent camping much more acceptable, and with a normal small family car, the set up and running costs of other types of camping is that much higher, A unable to answer that?
Q Is the reason more sites are now accepting tents and installing "Pods, because of the trend for camping?
A It is a growing market we need to tap into
So I would think the increase in c&cc membership is the upsurge in younger families camping in tents
Next "re brand" will be CMCC to let tenters become full menbers

Not just copyright, if a commercial enterprise wants to use images with recognisable faces, a model release needs to be obtained.
Take a look at the images on the C&CC website, there is a model release for each and every one of those adults and children featured.
Not simple to obtain lifestyle images like this, nor cheap, but they are extremely effective. Far more effective than a generic view of a bunch of white boxes in a field

Rebranding always wastes money, old stationery - out, liveries on all sorts of articles- changed and what for? We've always known that the Caravan Club was for motorhomes too, didn't we?
For me it will always be the Caravan Club, whatever you decide to change it to, I'm sure that the majority of Members will also. Apart from anything else, it's a mouthful - The Caravan and Motorhome Club - doesn't exactly trip off of the tongue.
Most of all, I am peeved that the membership wasn't consulted BEFORE the changes were made. The questions that were recently asked had no reference in them about name changes! Did the people responsible for this not stop for one moment and consider the long history that the Membership prize and the fact that the previous name stated quite unequivocally that we are THE Caravan Club.

- Do you not get that the Club needed to revive and modernise it's image, become more inclusive and attract the increasing leisure vehicle ownership to its doors? Whilst you and many many others posting here may have liked things just so, this approach was doing nothing for the future of the Club. My only concern is that the Club should have done this sooner, but it's better late than never.

Great News!
Owning a Motorhome, I now feel more of a member than before.
My only wish was that this great club would learn from the other well known club and offer discounts to the over 60s.
Pensioners are poorer but do have more leisure time.
Please consider this.

I think the fact that the number of comments made in the last few days, now at 1045, proves how controversial the new branding is. Surely the money it will cost for re-branding could have been better spent. If it had been put to a vote with the costing no doubt a huge number of members would have rejected it. I do not recall being asked for any feedback but then there are so many adverts in the magazine it usually goes in the recycling without being read.

Long overdue. Time it moved on to reflect todays market. Too many people stuck in their old ways not liking change. About time there was a new branding. Well done to the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

i agree so long as i can stay on site longer on a fri

Hooker, I'm sure most working families would have no problem with your suggestion as they are likely to arrive late.
. If the CC want to attract more families they have to break away from the farce of a 12.00pm departure

I 've looked at a lot of the posts and find very few supportive of this rebranding , new logo and the large sums of money it no doubt has already cost and will continue to cost on unnecessary changes to signage etc. All this is foisted, and yes I hear warm words about consultation, well it certainly passed me by, on members on the grounds of diversity,
adapting to changing demands and to open up the great outdoors to a new audience. You'll forgive me for a degree of scepticism . Rebrands in business usually are generated when the business is starting to fail , is loosing market share, diversifying or widening its product base. None of these apply in this case, and the new logo, which doubtless costs large sums to design and choose is mediocre at best. Our previous logo expressly defined what the club did . The costs of this senseless and unwanted rebranding would have much better spent on investing in sites, more serviced pitches , wifi on sites like Troutbeck etc.

Well we are not happy at all with this new logo. As paying members of the Caravan Club were we balloted? No were we asked to vote for the design of a new log? No. It's nondescript people won't know what it means. Looks like a heart . No we won't be displaying it on our vehicle or caravan
