The same Club, just better...

I felt the need to write something in support of the team at what I suppose I should now call the CMC.
As a child I enjoyed very many great holidays in our family caravan on CC sites.
When with my own family we moved from a tent to a motorhome I joined the club immediately. However, I always felt that the club looked a little old-fashioned compared to others in the marketplace. There's a surge in numbers of caravans and motorhomes being sold in the UK in recent years. My understanding is that one of the big growth demographics is that of young families.
Let us mourn the red pennant but embrace some 2017 rebranding. This should not mean that long-standing members are in some way valued less. Maybe a new look and an obvious inclusiveness towards motorhomers will attract some more members to enjoy the benefits of this great club. Would this not be a good thing?
Keep smiling RochelleCC and the rest of the team. Leading change is not meant to be easy!

How many extra hardstandings and sites being open all year could be paid for with the money spent on a pointless rebrand. how much did the consultants take for this rebrand
Could drop site fee's or membership fee's but no lets be the Apprentice, it's all about the brand.
Can i apply for shares now please?

All I can say is thanks for wasting MY money. I can only assume that people who find this exciting must have a very dull life.
I assume I can say goodbye to membership being held at the same price for a year now, and maybe having a bigger rise now.
Also why wasn't this sent out with the magazine saving postage, surely it could have been mixed with the rest of the junk.

Well my new handbook arrived this morning.
After being a caravaner for 27 years and now a motorome owner for the last 6 years I think this whole discussion is non productive.
Without the Motorhome members you would have a lot less members and all the club running costs would have to be funded by the caravan users only.
Plus normally a Motorhome takes half the space on a site so this could lead to more available pitches.
Come on let's all play nicely!

As a member of the club for over 25 years we received a sticker to recognise this. Maybe a replacement sticker is in the post with the new logo. As a way of recognition of our "service" it would have been nicer to be given a years free membership.

considering this statement on the NEW website
"One of the reasons we’re making these changes is to better reflect our broadening membership; embracing our diversity and reinforcing our sense of community."
am I now allowed to come to a site on a Friday night after 8pm due to having to work or am I STILL restricted to an 8 pm latest check in
also with the new changes will I still get kicked off a discussion for voicing my VALID opinion by a moderator ?
Kind regards Mark

Oh dear ! Looks like a breakdown in communication here - perhaps I should say a "disconnect" as that may be more in keeping with modern parlance.
Setting aside the cost of all this change, I have to say that I feel totally underwhelmed by the whole episode. Also, very sorry to loose our traditional / original identity. In my hand I have two new logo stickers which arrived in the post today. At the moment I'm unsure whether or not to use them - they don't appeal to me right now.

don't see your point uncletel,
re motorhome taking less space. each caravan and each motorhome use a pitch each; so no difference in space used, once a pitch is booked it's taken ,or can I put my mobile home on the same pitch as you?
thus doubling at a stroke the club's capacity.

Is there an undelivered address on the back of the envelope, so that the unwanted stickers can be returned?

Matt4321,
I don't think anybody has criticised Rochelle personally, certainly I think she has been left in a poor situation by the Club with a load of members awaiting keenly the "Announcement" and hoping very much for it to be along the lines of Improvements / amendments to some known dodgy parts of the I T System.
I really do think she's doing well in face of the Onslaught !

I posted a little earlier about where my "Nice New Stickers" are likely to end up tonight !!

Just checked, there is an undelivered address. Apparently it's a club called The Caravan Club at East Grinstead
The envelope has a lovely red pennant on the front of it, not something thats a cross between Walls, McDonalds and the Christian Fish Logos!

Just been reading Page 679 onwards in 15/16 sites handbook (Rules, regs etc) I Quote
The Caravan Club is run by its members for its members (Really)?
Members of Executive Committee attend Division & Region meetings and other club events to talk to members and listen to their views about the club.
Page 681 Definitions, Caravan = a trailer caravan, motorhome, trailer tent or folding camper ( Therefore covers all manner of leisure vehicles)
Page 684 Rule 18.1 Full members of the Club can propose a motion for consideration at the AGM
Final question, Have Exec committee got the power to carry out such a big change such as renaming, Without consulting membership?
8 -
So one of the "frequently asked questions" is "were the members consulted?"
and your answer "based on your feedback and in consultation with your representatives on the Committee" - which just repeats the one in the FAQ - is just a wriggly squirmy way of spinning "no".
Some honesty wouldn't go amiss here.
I'm somewhat indifferent to the re-branding - in common with many re-brands it's always unclear whether it's /really/ going to make a difference - but it would have been nice to have known before turning up at the NEC and thinking "caravan and motorhome club? who are they?" and then realising that despite being a member I knew naff-all about what was going on in my own club. And this has clearly been in the pipeline for a long time.
Please respect your members - and remember that you work for us.
Jon

If the club has paid a designer for this logo the whole board wants firing it's absolutely awful , my 6 year old couldve designed better ... I like all your sites wherever we go but please GET REAL THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY IMAGINE ALL THE SITE SIGNS YOUVE GOT TO CHANGE AT THE LEAST !
4 -
Seriously think you should organise a proper vote ref this and then we can accept the decision of the members
3 -
Really disappointed with this marketing driven thinking from East Grinstead. You've only just changed the colour of all the signs! Is it part of a larger corporate restructuring plan?
I remain to be convinced about member feedback being the driver as I can't recall being surveyed. All I want is an efficiently run organisation that provides a consistent quality of sites and services at a reasonable cost. Please focus on the essentials and the rest will come.

Would you consider emailing to ask for response on these points? It is blatantly obvious that there will be no defence of the decision on CT, or anywhere else. Only Rochelle fire fighting on behalf of management. I for one would be very grateful if you would.

Sorry to see we are no longer members of The Caravan Club. They have decided it is also a club for motorhomes. Each to their own but I have had a few stays totally spoilt after happily setting up amongst fellow caravaners only to go out for a day and return to find a huge, tall motorhome alongside, blocking any view from side window etc. I might as well holiday in a motorway service area! Some are really large and almost too long for the pitches. Please can we now have separate areas on site so they don't tower over and dwarf our little caravans? On one site on the south coast, there were a few coach sized homes with hippy sycadelic painting all over them and the pullout awning reached the next pitch. Might as well have articulated lorries on site. If we are to get along, it would be nice if they parked thoughtfully and the Club reconsiders the layouts on site. We joined a club for caravaners, they have moved the goalpost. I understand they want to cash in on the motorhome population but it should never be to the cost of the original members and loyal supporters. Please make proper space for these tall vehicles. Thank you.

I am shocked, nay bewildered, the snidey comments about motorhome owners by fellow caravanners is embarassing.
The whole idea of owning a motorhome/caravan/tent/trailertent/bivi or an old tarp, is to get away and relax from the the daily grind alongside like minded folk. How narrow minded can some people be !??
If you feel so outraged at the thought of sharing sites with non caravan owners, and feel the need to vent your frustration, I suggest you direct your thoughts at the club hierachy.
I for one find myself slack jawed at some of the motorhomes available now, and what? twice? three times the cost of a mid range caravan?
To you "Mr I hate motorhomes" I say, be careful what you say, you may be the catalyst that starts an online or worst, on site club divide! leading to the demise of the club
I dont mind the new logo, or the name change. I look forward to seeing the improvements within the Caravan and Motorhome Club that will hopefully benefit ALL members.
Lets all take a step back, take a deep breath and respect everyones choices of leisure vehicle!
We are all only here once, this aint no trial run!
Dave.

I must say i agree with JVB66. We're getting the usual " this is based on your feedback " nonsense that we get from politicians when in reality it has come out like a bolt from the blue. As an ex-civil servant who has seen more rebranding than Rochelle CC has had hot dinners, I know that thousands will be spent on all sorts of logo branded stuff from stationary to websites and its just an ego trip for someone. it will make no difference for recruitment as you either join or you don't, I suspect it was a motor caravan user who pushed this, when it could have been better spent on some thing physical that works for everybody.
