Bakers2,  I'am very glad we don't have to travel until Friday afternoon.

We use to use ferry Meadows when the boys were younger and came with us, good area for children. Not been back for a good few years.

Hope you get a trip away soon.

"Why change jobs when I'm already working for a company that has a successful enough strategy to ensure a worthwhile future for me? The more customers I serve the more money I get in delivery fees. I recall one Saturday when I earned over £90 in one day! That's not a bad day's earnings, is it?"

So Malcolm,it appears you are happy with your current lifestyle??

I was always of the opinion that YOU were the one unhappy with the way things were and others on here were trying to help you, when it appears, you don't really want / need it at all??undecided

Of course, I could be wrong?

Ah B2, you are not as far south as  Worthing however!  So not in the same category at all.

Up here, the carry-out is the actual food, the shop is still called a take-away, so not much different.

I believe we do have some establishments that deliver free, but on the very rare occasions that we fancy a Chinese carry-out, like Helen, we have an excellent one nearby.

Beside it are a fish and chip shop, but we found their chips a bit soggy when we tried it, and some other place that does Indian, or Thai, or similar, but OH cannot have anything too spicy, so we have not tried it.

We do sometimes buy fish and chips when away in the van, best we have ever had was in Stonehaven.

Yes, I'm a lot happier now that my hours are shorter and I get one day off per week. Previously, what I didn't like is having to work up to 11 p.m. every night without any days off. A 7 hour day plus one day off is much more easily manageable.

I think if I did change jobs, I would prefer a driving job because it's what I'm used to and understand best. I see many advertised but as the saying goes 'better the devil you know than the devil you don't.' There can be other disadvantages in other jobs that may not suit! I remember when I tried a change by working for Dominos. It took me one week to realise I'd made the wrong move and ended up working for dinner2go again!

Just be careful out there  Malc. It looks as though the strongest winds are going a bit further south. On my app It is showing gusts of close to 60mph for Redhill at 12:00.

We have had a lot of rain overnight and there is a very cold wind but according to the weather forecast we are going to get the worst of the storm this afternoon - just as we are collecting our grandsons from school. It's windy in that school playground at the best of times.surprised

Too windy to work in the garden (that's my excuse!) lots of stuff blowing around.

New gt niece arrived yesterday so will have a nice pressie buying expedition soon although I did knit something in readiness too.

Booked a June holiday in the Hastings area, last time we went with friends at the New Year when Fairlight Wood was open for longer. Trying the opposition this time, the deposits started to add up! wink

Certainly blowing hard here already. Just had a real squall that required putting house lights on, looked like fog outside where it was blowing hard the rain that was hitting the shed roof combining with falling rain. Now brilliant sunshine. Local radio here saying worse 😮this afternoon. Actually reminds me of the morning if the Great Storm of 1987 hit us in the afternoon I walked my daughter to nursery school for 1pm in the middle of our residential roads because of what was flying around. How naive was that?? I have to drive across town this morning. Please take care everyone.

Malcolm,  I know this has been asked before but have you ever calculated your dinnertogo income after tax compared to all the costs associated with your job?

I hope the answer is Yes but I would be surprised if you listened to advice on even this fundamental point. frown

It is even more important to project your income/costs forward as working less hours will obviously reduce your income but the majority of your costs will remain the same.

Light sprinkle of snow overnight, its very wet and slushy and seems now to have turned to rain. Hardly any wind at the moment so think we have got off light, much more snow further North.

OH out at his 'Mens shed' they meet twice a month now and things are coming together. He had a meeting the other day with a building supplies company who are happy to sponsor them, so all they need to do now is to secure a 'Shed' workroom so they can kit it out and do some projects for the village. They have a number of requests/projects  lined up.

Think I will make a start on OH's wardrobe while he's out, did mine the other day and have a big bag of clothes to go to charity. Try to sort OH's when he is there is a struggle as he's a bit of a hoarder, if I say get rid, he puts it as work clothes then it finds its way back into the wardrobe at a later datefrown

Stay safe all those out and about today.

We were just about to get hitched up for our journey when lo and behold, the car wouldn't start. So another call out for Mayday. They've just been and got the car started. They said to keep the engine running for about half an hour before moving to give the battery enough charge.

We're getting quite strong wind gusts from Storm Doris at the moment. It rained earlier but the sun is out now and clouds racing across the sky, so not sure how long the sun will last before the next shower. Hopefully, the rain will hold off long enough to get hitched up and on our way. We'll just have to take it slowly with our journey.

My wife keeps account of everything. She's very good with figures. She had all the figures ready for my tax return last year, so it shouldn't be a problem this year. Once the amount of tax due has been calculated, all that is required is an online card payment which is straightforward enough.

I can imagine. Parked my car outside the hairdressers in a built up housing estate and listened to end of woman's hour before going in. I could feel the rocking and it was very enclosed. Hope you don't have any damage.

Well really pleased with my hair cut same price as I was paying to have it done indoors 😯, but not my water electric and clearing up so result 😆. Lovely to have hair washed and head massage. Just having lunch in the conservatory which is creaking well. Think we at or reaching the highest winds at the mo, there's a huge roar like an approaching train or an incoming wave just before it arrives and the trees bend and whip like matchsticks. We've had a fence panel pop out, which is as it should be. Can't imagine being in the open were in town. It is having a upside as I drove back along the dual carriageway there was a huge gust that gathered all the leaves and swirled them around before it 'stood' them up and blew them across the road like a marching troop, at a very fast pace! in formation.

I've decided to be productive in the kitchen this afternoon and stock the freezer a bit.

Tammygirl I love the idea of the community she'd and local projects, do keep us posted.

Take care folks and stay safe.

PS Malcolm I'm surprised you weren't advised to stay put by Mayday. Do take it easy. New battery needed? More expense?

Had a very productive day at Birmingham yesterday (trains took the strain) did not see anything that was worth opening wallet for, noticed a "new club" was trying to justify its presence?in the marketundecided,Dog show was goodcool,

Last night had a meeting at local police HQ to get updates on latest developments on  ANPR camera systems, now know why police vehicles are less visiblesurprised and even a cloned or stolen  plate is no hiding place, and lots more that is not for on herewink

Wind easing off a bit now but fence panels took a battering earlier, still in place so far,

It's been windy here in N Warwickshire - we've lost a fence panel thanks to Doris, but it seems to have calmed down a bit this last few minutes.

    Keep safe everyone.

What's all the fuss about? It's just a bit breezy here today. Only 41 mph and a bit of rain!

But I'm sorry for anyone in the thick of it, especially those that have to work outside.

We woke to a few cm of snow, and it snowed till about 11, but then turned to rain, so hopefully all the snow will be gone soon.

Grouting now finished, so only all the silicone sealant still to apply.

Gas check at  DD's flat went OK and I was able to start looking at the electrical work that needs to be done soon.

Gusts more spaced apart and lesser in strength at the moment but reading posts from those West of here seems like when might be in the eye at present. Mum rang she's had power cut but back quickly and flickering, did something to her boiler and she couldn't get it going again so after half an hour of trying she contacted the guy who looks after it. My brother very good with this sort of thing but won't touch hers as it's oil and he's no experience. Guy says long way away but try it again if not he'd be over when he could. It fired up on second attempt. She keep a calor gas fire in the lounge çovered and disguised for easy access just in case. When I grew up we had a solid fuel Rayburn so power cuts weren't an issue, removed as hard work when my parents reached their 60s, much less dirty work and dust but we all miss it especially at times like this. She does well at 86. Said she needed paracetamol to calm down after 😉

Soup and self crusting quiche made sponge cake next.

Goldie glad you're missing the worst usually your area that gets a hammering.

    Stay safe

As I read through this I think I may have spoken too soon huge roaring again and very strong Gusts.
