Excellent reason not to go to France and go to Austria instead! Try Kleinwalsertal in north west of the country. A beautiful valley with excellent cycling and walking infrastructure. The camp site at the southern end is the one we would recommend, if you stay more than 3 days you get free public transport travel pass. We like to go somewhere different every year so are trying very hard to resist the temptation to return this year after one of our best ever holidays there last year.

    Thanks Dianne

I was hoping you would reply. Will have a look at your recommendations and email you separately. May be a couple of days before I do.

    Thanks again.

I have camped in both counties but will never visit Switzerland again.  Found it the most expensive place I have ever been to. You cannot stop your car without paying fees and pitches are very small..  Austria is expensive but nothing like switzerland and the campsites are far better, larger pitches less cost but as always green taxes on top.

I also found Austria more friendly and nicer to be in.  Switzerland has a surprising amount of  dull countryside and industrial areas.
