Yes we travel this road every year rishogun and it is passable by caravans actually it is the main and only route for caravans in that area. The A12 is an Autobahn and S16 mostly dual carriageway. But if you are thinking of going in 2017 you will not be able to use this route as the Tunnel will be closed from 18th April 2017 till October 2017. The alternative route is attached ASFINAG Austrian Organisation for Autobahns do. say you can use the Arlbergpass but after using it in 2015 when the Tunnel was last closed I would not recommend it with a caravan.
I apologise for the photos attached for not being very clear.
if if you need any more info contact me on dvphillips@hotmail.com or go here

Rishogun, Throughout the summer of 2016 the Arlberg tunnel closures were overnight only, and I am under the impression that this will also be the case in 2017 too. If that is the case then your route from Bregenz will be straightforward. It needs someone with fluency in German to read the updates on the websites. Otherwise I suggest you ask Club travel department staff to check it out with their Austrian colleagues for you.

We used that route last year but I think in 2015 it was closed and I got the impression it was going to be closed again in 2017. Alternatively you could go via Kempten and over the Fern Pass which would bypass the tunnel.

Hello Everyone,
I've spoken with one for my Austrian contacts at the FIA regarding this to get clarification. They have advised that the closures for the Arlberg tunnel will be overnight between 20:00-05:00. During the day the tunnel will be open.
Many Thanks,
Thomas Ash

Below is a copy of email I received from a Campsite we use which is situated just off the S16 east of Bludenz.. The site is actually sited on the beginning of the Arlberg Pass.
I will contact him again for confirmation of closure times but I would hardly think he would say that Caravans could use the Arlberg Pass if the Tunnel was open in the day.
The Tunnel was closed last year 2016 at nights but I have read somewhere that it is closed 24 hours (Day and Night) The ASFINAG website for the Tunnel is not working so no help. There is nothing on the internet saying the Tunnel is open during the daytime in Spring/Summer 2017.
I am sorry the screenshot is very small hope folks can enlarge.

Well here is the notification I got by email from Walch's Campsite.
I will type the contents as cannot copy and post on here.
"First of all, the Tunnel will be closed 18th April until 26th September 2017.
During the Week you can pass the Arlberg Pass with the Caravan at all times. On Saturdays,Sundays and Celebration Days (he means Religious and Bank Holidays ) the Pass will be closed for Caravans from 09.00 am until 05.00 pm. the rest of the day and night you can drive over the Arlberg Pass with your Caravan.
I was hoping to post the Website I used for the info but cannot copy the link on here it is very long.
If anybody wants the link email me on dvphillips14@hotmail.com and I will send it to you by email.

You should be able to post it OK if you use this method. If you type something like see this website. Highlight the word website and then click the link button above and paste the link into the URL space and press OK. The word website should now be highlighted so people can follow the link that way.

That is exactly what I tried first but it did not want to know.
I will try with a shorter link that takes three steps to get to the Tunnel info. It might come up in English or it might not on some Tablets/Laptops.
So it works you will need these 3 steps to get to the Info.
1. Scroll down and click on All Constructions Sites in small orange box on the right.
2. Scroll down the Left Hand Box and click Voralberg.
3. Then under the Map are 3 titles click S 16 and on the next page Scroll down to just above the first Video and the dates are there.
This is the link to ASFINAG.
Hope this help clear the question whether this Tunnel is Open during Spring Summer during the day. It clearly is not Open at all. Day or Night.
