Pitch Sizes
Hi All,
We're researching our 1st ever MH jaunt to France & the site we're looking at offers three pitch sizes 80sq metres 110sq metres & 140sq metres. Having never toured before I don't know how big a "standard" pitch is and cant ensilage it in my minds eye. Obviously the 140sq pitch is nearly twice as big so is it worth the extra euros of 30, 32 and 34 respectively per night. We will have a MH, 2 adults a canopy and 1 Dog.
Thanks in advance.

A lot would depend on the shape but you might reasonably assume an almost square pitch so 8 x 10 or in old money 26ft x 32ft. Plenty of room for an average sized MH, a canopy and a bit of breathing space.

Obviously the 140sq pitch is nearly twice as big
Just to point out that it may be twice the area but if you mean twice as big in terms of pitch length or width then it is not. It is difficult to relate areas to pitch dimensions.
Just for the sake of an example imagine the 80 sq m pitch is a square. The length (and width) will be just under 9 m. The 140 sq m pitch will be 11.8 m by 11.8. That's a difference of 2.8 m per side ( technically it's 1.4 times as big)

FB, you don't say when you are thinking of going, if it's not in July or August, have you looked at ACSI discount card. It is well worth getting one as you can recoup the cost in just 1 night on some sites, the pitch prices are 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 euro per night, this is for a pitch, car, caravan, awning 2 adults and ehu. Going back to your question an 80 sq metre pitch should be big enough, as others have said it depends on shape. We regularly use a site that gives Acsi users 70 sq metre pitch, we can get our 6.6m van front to back on the pitch + the canopy and room beyond for our bikes, the pitch has hedges on 3 sides all this for 17 euro. On most sites you can go larger for just a few euros more. Some sites we use have 100 sq metre pitches for just 13 euro, so its worth looking around, if you are going outwith July/August the sites are usually not busy so no booking is required.0

Standard pitch size varies from country to country. In France I would say that 100 sq mts is fairly common as a minimum, especially inland. Nearer the coast, particularly in the South they can be smaller. Motorhomers can generally manage with smaller pitches because in the main they don't have a car to also fit onto the pitch like a caravanner would. It might depend on the shape of the pitch, we would be fine if the pitch was 8mts x 10mts but if it were squarer in shape we might struggle with a longer motorhome. From the prices you quote I imagine you are going in peak season? If not see Tammygirl's advice above. If you are going in peak season one of the advantages of a larger pitch is that you will have more space around you and possibly more privacy, not so important in the low season.

BTW, I have moved your thread to the Overseas Section as its likely to get a better response here.

We have been on a long stay pitch in Spain that was 90sq metres and we had an 8 metre van with full size awning and large 4x4 and only just had enough space for chairs and other small things.
