Which routes have "caravans go free"?

We generally use the Portsmouth - Caen route on Brittany Ferries with camping cheques to get the caravans go free option. To save me trawling through all the options, are there other western Channel routes that offer this?

Click on the tab 'Overseas Holidays' then under 'Book a Crossing' you will see the ferry offers.

Someone who contributes to this forum uses the Plymouth/Roscoff route - which is usually cheaper if bought as a package with Camping Cheques/or campsites.  This can bring down the cost of the ferry substantially - in the case of Camping Cheques by much more than the added cost of the cheques, but don't forget that if you want to use a particular site which is offered by the Caravan Club it may be cheaper to book the ferry and site together than pay more for the ferry elsewhere.

Here is a quote I tried for someone just a couple of days ago:

    BRITTANY FERRIES
    Outward 28/05/2017 Portsmouth - Caen

    Dep: 14:45 Arr: 21:30

    Duration: 5hr 45min

    Ship Name: Normandie

    Return 11/06/2017 Caen - Portsmouth

    Dep: 08:30 Arr: 13:15

    Duration: 5hr 45min

    Ship Name: Normandie

This ferry This includes return ferry and 7 Camping Cheques.
    £340.65
    BOOK NOW

This is with a car up to five metres long, and two metres high, and a caravan seven metres long. Where are you going wrong, do you think, as I had absolutely no problem. NB Return date 11th June.

I'd be happy to negotiate a price for the Camping Cheques, if you don't want them!

A crossing with exactly the same details from Brittany Ferries is quoted below:

    Outbound Sailing
    Vehicle and Passengers 234.00 GBP
    Return Sailing
    Vehicle and Passengers 220.00 GBP
    Total 454.00 GBP
    Including non refundable deposit of
Which is due today 35.00 GBP
Payment is due on 12 Apr 2017 for the balance of 419.00 GBP

As you can see that the ferry booked direct would cost you £100 more than the package through the Caravan Club, which includes the seven Camping Cheques as well!  In effect this means that the ferry through the Caravan Club costs you £236.00 instead of £454.00!

Thanks all, will give them a ring as the ferry offers page is rather vague.

As we live in Brum, Portsmouth is a much better option than Plymouth, saving 50 miles and an hour's travel each way as well as the times being more convenient for Portsmouth.

Looks as though we'll be at Les Pommiers again!

Hi Ian,Further to Val's post below, in bold, is what I have posted previously in regard to my trip with BF for 2017.

The key to success is doing what you wanted to avoid and 'trawling' all the options but, as AD says, calling is advised and I always call to check if there are any deals not apparent in the online system, as often is the case.

The starting point though is never ever assume that a deal you or anyone else got will be available when you want to book. Things change, not only from year to year, also on the same ferry sometimes due to outfit and availability. It is likely that Portsmouth will be cheaper than Plymouth but from Cornwall not worth using.

    This year, and for a few now, we have traveled overnight Thursday, which had historically been more than travelling during the day, as the price now is far less than a Friday day crossing.My details this year are;

Our 2017 trip, Brittany Ferries Plymouth/Rosoff out Thursday night in May and back Sunday morning in June, and the cost of the ferry portion of the fare was £241 including the cabin.

The price booking direct with BF? ................£573 so a saving of £332.

So even if you don't use the cheques, you need to buy 5 if you book over the phone, it would still be financially beneficial to get an ITX package with savings of this order.

I can think of a better option, Ian.

The overnight run on "Bretagne" from Portsmouth to St Malo is just so civilised - dinner on board in the smart waiter service restaurant, a nightcap, and then one of the better cabins, a picturesque  St Malo arrival at 0815, and then just a few miles over the river mouth to Dinard and the lovely  stretch of coast towards Cap Frehel. It's right there on the doorstep. It's dearer, but it's only money!

Do you really want the cheapest crossing to Ouistreham and then the morning  rat race around the Caen ring road all over again?

    Many thanks, food for thought.

Having spent £1,000 on our trip via Santander last year (worth it however), I was looking for a cheaper option. But I absolutely agree about the restaurants and we always take advantage on the sailings we use.

TBH we're usually not on the road till 10 am or so so we miss the worst of the rat race but I do take the point.

Options still very fluid but tending towards Limousin / Millevaches in late June.

Kimberley - the specific Brittany offers aren't on that page but I note it says that only 5 Camping Cheques are now required for discounts. Is this correct, as we very rarely use them?

Ian, As I posted above I think that a better better option is Plymouth to Roscoff on BF flagship the Pont Aven, Thusday night, and back on the Pont Aven Sunday morning so you get the great breakfast buffet as well as the evening meal.

They even board early but with a van you may still be one of the last on but that means front of queue getting off.

Its an easy job to check the prices and when we booked, over the phone, it was 5 cheques to get an ITX. Our friends booked direct with Camping Cheques..........after I passed them the phone and they spoke to the same person

    Hi Ian,

The Brittany offers are further down the page.

    Brittany Ferries
Low prices when you combine crossing with five Camping Cheques or an overseas pitch.

Yes, you are correct, we can, via the Contact Centre price the crossing with 5 Camping Cheques, the number to call is 01342 316101, Mon to Fri 08.45 to 17.30.

    Kind regards.

    Kimberley.

Another (hopefully related) question - probably for Kimberley.

We took out Brittany Ferries Club Voyage Spain for our trip last year, but it will expire in April. Can we still apply discounts etc (eg free day cabins, meal allowances) if we book through the CC?

I've also discovered there's an overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo but a rough costing comes out at over £600, even returning from Ouistreham so may be pushing the boundaries a little......
