I've just woken up from another sleep. It' pouring with rain, a continuous heavy downpour unlike the stop start showers during the daytime. Not easy to sleep with the noise of the rain pattering constantly on the caravan roof. I hope it stops long enough tomorrow so that I can get the daily outside chores done.

Not long back from DD's.  Good dinner followed by coffee and shortbread, then watched some TV and discussed prospective new car.

Looking on their website it seems the dealer may now, presumably yesterday, have sold the one we were looking at, the grey one, but there are still 2 blue ones in stock.  Our test drive is on Tuesday, but they are open tomorrow, so not sure why Tuesday.

Car washing was not that effective so plan to take the Volvo to the hand car wash recommended by SIL for a good scrub.  Interior is not too bad if I tidy up and shake out the mats.  Discovered a side light blown so will fix that.

Then we plan to drop in past the showroom to check the stock status and see if we can bring forward the test drive, also to get answers to our list of things we need clarified.

Showroom is quite near DD's place and I need to sort a light fitting for her anyway.

There's blue sky this morning at last and no fog, just waiting for the sun to come up. I've been up two hours now. Already had breakfast.

Lovely day today. Clear blue sky, no wind and no fog.  We are taking the Christmas decorations down today as we are off to N.Ireland in a couple of days.

It's sunny and frosty this morning,  much better than yesterday's rain.

Hope to get out for longer walk today, then going to hunt for my knitting needles, have decided that my new years resolution is to re learn. ☺ Found an almost finished baby's jumper when getting the Christmas lights out of the cupboard.

Lovely day here again today, frost overnight but sunny first thing this morning and for most of the day. Managed to get out for a nice walk today after finishing off the ironing. That's the holiday clothes all ready for the next trip away cool

Wish I could remember all the little jobs I was going to do on the van, I know there was a few things I was going to improve on but can't for the life of me remember what they were. Hopefully once we get the van back from the dealers and we start putting the things back in it I will remember.

I went shopping to Tesco Extra in Durrington this morning so after two days of inactivity, the Smart Car got its run this morning. Despite the small hatchback, there was enough room to get all the shopping in. Then back to the caravan for lunch. Sat out in the awning until the sun went over. The sun went  behind the hill at 13:30 and after that the warmth went with it.

    It's getting dark now.

Cracking day in the Trossachs! Some hardy souls took part in a sailing race, there was a decent breeze and no snow!

After the race back to clubhouse for soup etc.

    No shopping involved!

    A perfect day!

Sitting by the log fire, nice and cosy in it's red glow, sipping from my glass.

The g/kids have departed and peace reigns all round. Ah bliss!

Belatedly - Happy New  Year to all!

Yes Helen we were just saying how bare everywhere looks. frown I have really enjoyed our decorations this year but they are all down and packed away in the loft now. I then gave the house a really good clean as one does after the decs are put away. laughing

Was that for one of your sons Helen? laughing. I found a half finished school jumper when I cleared out the cupboard under our stairs last year. It was supposed to be for our son who is now 40!!laughing

Enjoy your NI trip Millie. We got back home late afternoon after enjoying a short New Year break, Dulverton is a nice place to visit. The wardens offered everyone a glass of wine and a mince pie before they closed up shop for the night. At midnight about three fireworks went off....my kind of place. laughing

Looks like a cold night ahead, it's distinctly chilly outside, brrr.

Thanks brue.  Glad you enjoyed your New Year break. We had a week at the Dulverton site a few years ago and thought it was a great site in a lovely little town. Beautiful area as well. Loved it.

Bought the floor tiles for the kitchen today at Homebase.

We've seen some wall tiles at B&Q so I applied for a Diamond Club card (10%off on Wednesdays)......so there is some benefit to getting older.

Wednesdays are the busiest day at our local B&Q.

Welcome to the grey economy Ian.

It's surprising how many younger shoppers take their parents/grandparents shopping to B&Q on Wednesdays.laughing

Enjoy your NI trip Millie, have a safe journey.cool

Visited VW dealer and had a test drive today, I think we will be buying the Touareg.  Getting a price for a towbar from them tomorrow and will also get a price from a local towing specialist.  As expected, we knew more about towbars than the salesman!

Trade-in price on the XC90 was decidedly unimpressive, managed to push it up by £250, just as well the VW is such a good price.

We will source mats and other essentials elsewhere, but will add a service plan.

OH has spent the evening checking insurance costs......will be almost double what the XC90 was it seems, so there goes the VED saving!

Present insurance runs till end of February so I think we will pay the admin fee and extra amount to transfer it, then look at alternatives on renewal.  Just needed to check first that we would not be buying a vehicle we could not afford to insure!

When we left the showroom at 2pm there were 2 blue and 1 grey ones available, so just hoping they are not all sold before tomorrow morning...it could happen.

We'll be keeping our decorations up for the time being. There's not a lot to take down. Just a small Christmas tree with the coloured lights on. The evenings are still too dark and it would be depressing without the Christmas lights. New Years Day may have come and gone but it's not the twelfth night yet. Last year, I couldn't help noticing that some people were breaking with tradition and keeping their lights going well past the twelfth night!

I've just finished breakfast. I had a bigger breakfast than usual this morning. I had cereal to start with and then I cooked scrambled eggs and pigs in blankets. The pigs in blankets took half an hour to cook in the oven, cooked from frozen. The scrambled eggs took two minutes in the microwave accompanied by two slices of granary bread toasted using the electric toaster. So everything cooked on the electric as usual.

I never use gas anymore for two reasons. Firstly, the cost of nearly £25 for a six kg propane cylinder and secondly the hassle of having to change ove the cylinders everytime the gas runs out. Of course, when you are on the move, you've got no choice. However, when we have EHU, that is the preferred option.

I was listening to Radio 4 this morning about the UK, since we are now an obese nation....I must resolve to cut out the sugar after hearing the mountainous amount we are all consuming. I don't eat too many fatty things but sugar is my downfall.

    My thought for the day....kiss

I'm hoping the thoughts of too many greasy breakfasts will pass soon innocent

I don't eat much fat but have recently been told by the Doc that I may need to start taking statins, due to the results from a blood test.frown
