Queueing at Chatsworth

We stayed at Chatsworth on 4 occasions this year. Not once did we have to queue,Maybe because I always aim to arrive well after 1 and aren't bothered which pitch we're on.
Also if we did have to queue I certainly wouldn't feel the need to be rude to the warden marshalling the road, What does that achieve?
As the OP says "Chill" you're on holiday! Or not on holiday whichever you choose

This is exactly it there is a small minority that just seem to think that the arrival time does not apply to them. They have no problem understanding why there needs to be set times but they just cant help trying to take advantage and abuse the system rather than go with the majority of members.I must add that in my opinion the CC is not blameless in causeing this sort of problem by allowing inconsistancy on sites which seems to create far more problems than it solves.

No trouble at Edinburgh Club Site - admission is from 0900 every day. It works a treat.

Why do people arrive early, when they know that they won't get in untill the set opening times (on the very busy sites, at least)?
Surely it is because they want to get a particular pitch or be in a certain area of the site.
If it was possible to book a specific pitch, they wouldn't need to do so. Far more relaxing for them, for the site staff and for all those who don't want to take up the option of booking a specific pitch.
We used a couple of commercial sites last year, where we could book a specific pitch. We used to regularly use a site in Cornwall where specific pitches were booked. It was far more relaxing and we saw no queues at all.

I have not heard that one before

BB, Yes, it's the British attitude. Well perhaps actually it could be Caravan Club members attitude.
I was at Loupian last summer, it's just inland from Meze, and the warden shuts the barrier from 1200 till 1400 and goes home for her lunch. Dutch drivers send their navigator to duck under the barrier, ask someone inside for the code, and drive in. The Brits are prepared to wait patiently for two hours and start forming a queue. Even when I told them the code they continued to wait. The rules, you see.

Its a bit like useing public transport in some mainland countries,if you queue in an orderly manner ,you then get trampled ,as some of our over there "cousins" make dive to get on first
In this country its called manners (or lack of over there)

Your not wrong JVB. I remember at Zermatt station trying to hold back a load of other nationals ( I was much younger then☹️️) to allow a lady with a baby to exit the arriving train. Several had already barged past, almost knocking her over.

Fair comment BB and i see what your saying. Now there are different systems on the continant no doubt but this is the CC in the UK and is run as the CC see,s fit for the vast majority of its members. The only problem with the current system is the minority of selfish members who want too push the barriers and bend the rules too suit themselves and until the CC gets its act together and adopts a consistant attitude on ALL sites and sends this selfish minority away until the correct time then the situation wont improve. If people like myself and many others can time their journey properly then so can the minority who think the rules dont apply too them. This is,nt rocket science its about good manners and helping a system that suits the vast majority too work properly.

The idea of arrive when you want within reason is in order by me but we do have to accept that on a few sites access problems may make this inadvisable and on those sites prominence should be given to this.
I do not see the problem with the midday departure time though as that is better for many. It should be made clear that anyone arriving before then MUST take a pitch from those free and cannot wait on the road for pitches where the occupants have not yet left. Possibly early arrivals could pay a small extra fee for this as would anyone electing to stay late where there was the room.

My hubby can't bear to site around in the morning if he has if he has something to do or somewhere to go. So many a time we have to sit in a layby somewhere along the route waiting for the twelve o'clock entry time. It has nothing to do with the best pitch etc as it is the same when we leave we are usually away from the site soon after eight o'clock. I would be happy to pay extra to be able to arrive early.

I usually plan my journey to arrive at the next site mid to late afternoon. I obviously leave my previous site before 12.00 noon as I would not like to disadvantage those who are arriving after the "No arrivals before" time. After all, I know I will have a pitch to go to as I have phoned the site and booked one during the morning before leaving.
So that allows me to have a leisurely drive to site, being able to stop off at places of interest en-route.
No problems no hassle we are on holiday. Relaxed and chilled out.
Cheers..................K

Much easier to do now that you've a M/H, Kennine, but did you do the same with a van on-tow, I wonder?

Isn't it grand to see Chestnuts at this time of year (including this OLD variety of one).
I think it's marvellous that the CT members have managed to combine 2 old chestnuts into one this time, by discussing arrival/departure times and UK v. Continental touring.
I daresay this thread will reappear on numerous occasions throughout the year, well before the chestnuts come into season,
Pity the IT department are otherwise engaged and haven't the time to treat this thread in the same manner as an Advertisement for Kitchen Installations.
Better than tele though.
