Congratulations on the new car Malcolm, good idea an automatic.
It may be beneficial for insurance renewal next time to find a good independent broker, they can search lots of companies and they can often find a better all round policy for very similar or less money. I can say this as it's what I used to do until a couple of years ago.
Have a good Christmas, lucky you don't have to keep moving around too.

Still suffering with the cold and sore throat, OH is feeling worse than me, he has to go back to the doctors tomorrow.
This all means christmas preparations are not going well.😢
Have and great time JVB66 and Triky.
Moulesy Mauritius sounds exciting.
Lovely present Goldie.
Going to try and tackle some household jobs now.

Hope you have done your sums correctly Malcolm, and that it all works out for the best.
Will the fuel saving really cover the cost of buying, insuring and maintaining a second vehicle, even when anything saved on insuring the Shogun for business use is taken into account?
We ran 2 cars until I retired, then had only one from 2008 till 2013, so OH no longer had a NCD to use when we got the Smart. We saved quite a bit by not having a second car, but did find it a bit inconvenient to only have 1 vehicle. The XC90 is quite expensive to run, and we were putting 10-12000 miles on the clock each year.
The Smart is much cheaper to run, but taking into account the purchase cost and additional insurance and servicing, I would say we are not actually saving anything overall, but enjoy the convenience of the additional vehicle.

Malcolm
That does seem to be a massive amount for insurance that you have been charged. Maybe not if you were a teenager who had just passed their test!!! But I know that not to be the case. I am in the process of checking out renewal insurance for my Kia Venga which is due next month, which is quite a small car and the Caravan Club has been the highest quote so far at nearly £200 more than SAGA which I would have thought would have been a natural competitor? Seemingly even more silly is that it's not a dissimilar amount to what I pay the Club to insure my motorhome which is worth three times what the car is worth!!! Fingers crossed that my current insurers, John Lewis, come back with a decent renewal figure!!!

Malcolm. It does seem an awful lot for SDP insurance??
Could be that, as far as I'm aware, you can only use your NCD on one car, the other has to start from scratch. If this is the case it's still an enormous amount!
As others have stated, hope you've done your sums correctly?
It'll be interesting for you when you move back to your seasonal pitch and have to drive 2 cars off site every 30 days, as I believe your good lady doesn't drive, although I could be wrong?
Good luck with it all.

Our Smart insurance started out at just over £300 for SDP as OH could only get a starter discount from being a named driver on the Volvo, plus DD who is also on the insurance had a claim on her own car the previous year.
The cost has therefor reduced year on year, and now DD's claim will no longer count, which will help for next year. We do around 4000 miles in the Smart annually.
This year we took the CC brokers up on the "beat your renewal by £25" offer, so shaved a further £25 off the cost.

Today I went for a chat/interview with the Volunteer Development Manager at Peterborough Cathedral and have been accepted as a Volunteer Welcomer at Peterborough Cathedral. I start in the New Year. So looking forward to it. A new challenge.

So sorry you are both still feeling so poorly Helen And Trevor. Definitely not what you want when there is so much to do and you can't really enjoy all the Christmas preparations and festivities. I do hope you both feel better soon.

Had a £5 voucher for food, if I spent over £40,from M&S in my pocket when I visited their store today. Never spend this amount so I tend to give these vouchers to the first pleasant and polite person I meet. Such was the base behaviour that I witnessed from people who pretend they know better but don't that I ended up throwing the voucher away in disgust.
I'm not the most enthusiastic of Christmas revellers but am no party pooper either and appreciate the demands on time and money at this time of year but the Christmas spirit was definitely missing this morning.

A day at CAB today.
While there, I got a call on my mobile from one of those PPI recovery firms saying that he was going to send me a form to sign for them to recover some PPI that they believed I had bought.
I explained to him that
a) I have never bought any PPI
b) I am an Advisor at CItizens Advice and our standard advice to clients would be to always sort out recovery of PPI yourself, because it is incredibly easy to do, and
c) We also advise never to use an agency like the one that this chap represented, because it meant paying out a big part of the refund to them for nothing.
Errrrrr, I'll take you off our contact list, he said.
I think that would be for the best, said I.
